Manchin asks MTV to cancel “Buck Wild”

| December 10, 2012

I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the military or terrorism or much else, but I just felt the need to write about it. The Washington Times reports that West Virginia’s junior senator is publicly asking MTV to cancel their new show which hasn’t aired yet. The show is Named “Buck Wild” and centers around the lives of several West Virginia youths;

Manchin’s office said Friday that he sent a letter to the president of the network saying the show profits off of “poor decisions of our youth.”

The senator also said the show set to begin airing Jan. 3 plays to ugly, inaccurate stereotypes about the people of his home state.

First of all, has Manchin been paying attention for the last several years? MTV has been profiting from the airing of “poor decisions of our youth” for a very long time. The network hasn’t been about music since the early 90s.

Secondly, wouldn’t it be better if Senator Manchin asked the residents of my newest home state (my eighth) to stop being “ugly, inaccurate stereotypes”?

Profiting from poor decisions by their utes? Hell, MTV makes movies celebrating poor decisions by utes all over the world. Why would Manchin think they’d pay any attention to him?

This is the new face of entertainment in America, appeal to the basest, lowest, common denominator and run wild…..

While I understand that not every form of entertainment needs to challenge us with thought provoking mental conundrums, this current level of mindless drivel that passes for entertainment seems to be created for exactly the kind of people who benefit from the credit recovery program at DC area high schools. They learn absolutely nothing and are not aware they are being screwed by the very education system designed to prepare them intellectually to face the world, therefore the entertainment we provide them is designed to show people even stupider than they are to keep their self esteem from dropping due to their inability to function in modern society as a direct result of the “learning” they received in their educational careers.

Frankly, MTV jumped the shark about 20 years ago.

Do they even show videos anymore? I don’t think I’ve seen one in years.

MTV has a plethora of sister channels like MTV Jams, MTV Hits, CMT and host of others that are devoted mostly to music. Most of these channels are only available on satellite or digital cable however.

@1 – I have that T-shirt and, yes, I am from WV.

We just recently subscribed to DISH for our Grand Daughter, so she could watch cartoons. After not having TV for well over 12 years, I have come to the conclusion that we will be getting rid of it rather quickly. There are very few channels worth watching and MTV doesn’t even come close. The shit shown on tv isn’t worth a tinkers damn to watch.

@6–the old Springsteen song of “57 Channels and Nothing’s On” is more like 500 channels.

And to think when there were only three channels back in the 60’s it was called the “Great Wasteland.” I wonder what that person would call it today.

Oh please give me back those 3 channels!!
