20th green-on-blue death this year

| May 11, 2012

The Associated Press is reporting the 20th green-on-blue attack death this year that happened this morning. It’s not clear if it was an actual Afghanistan National Army soldier or an insurgent, and NATO hasn’t told us the nationality of his victim, either. The Taliban has taken credit for the latest shooting by an individual in an ANA uniform who opened fire on NATO troops killing at least one before he himself was killed;

The insider threat in which Afghan soldiers or militants disguised in uniforms turn on NATO troops has existed for years but has grown more deadly. The 20 insider attacks so far this year have killed 13 soldiers, compared to 21 attacks last year that killed 35 coalition service members, according to a NATO tally.

That compares with 11 fatal attacks and 20 deaths in 2010. And in 2007 and 2008 there were a combined total of four attacks and four deaths.

But, don’t worry about it, the Afghan National Police have investigated the incidents and they claim there is no conspiracy, so rest easy.

UPDATE: Fox News broadcast is reporting that it was a US soldier who was killed and two others were wounded.

If Western military is forced to continue to stay in that cesspit, then one armed soldier should be assigned to keep an eye on any/all ANA, with orders to shoot to kill if any ANA raises a weapon out of turn. Reduce the casualties on our side anyway.

I believe some troops are already doing that since they don’t trust these guys.

We cannot get out of that cesspool fast enough.

The re-integration program, where we pay Taliban members to claim they’re on our side, will solve all this.
