Arrest made in Matthew Owens assault

| April 26, 2012

Arthur sends a link from WKRG5 which reports that Mobile, AL police have made an arrest in the Matthew Owens assault that we discussed the other day;

Mobile Police made their first arrest in the mob beating of Matthew Owens. 44-year-old Terry Rawls surrendered Wednesday on assault charges.

“This here is an ongoing dispute with neighbors, that’s what this is,” explained Corporal Chris Levy with the Mobile Police Department.

Police say the tension between Owens and Rawls had been escalating for three years. In fact, that wasn’t the first time police were called to Delmar Drive. Police say Rawls has attacked Owens before, but charges were never filed because they say Owens instigated it.

You’ll be relieved to learn that despite witnesses reports that one of the mob shouted “That’s justice for Trayvon”, that the police have decided that this has nothing to do with the murder of the young thug by George Zimmerman;

Witnesses claim one of those attackers screamed, “That’s justice for Trayvon” as she drove away. That comment has created has created an uproar nationwide, but police say Florida’s Trayvon Martin case has nothing to do with this.

“I can tell you without a doubt 100 percent that the Trayvon Martin case was not the motivating factor, said Levy. “That 100 percent, it is an ongoing incident between people that have been fighting for a few years now.”

Well, I don’t know about you, but I feel better now.

Guy was out on bond before noon today. Not a big fan of our local PD. 20 people jumped Owens, but only one arrest so far? Nice going, guys.

I really don’t care what the motivating factor was. A mob beat a man nearly to death on his front porch.

If my math serves, that police dept. has just about 19 more arrests to go.

So, it really wasn’t racially motivated – just a bunch of folks arguing in the neighborhood. Maybe it really didn’t matter what the skin color of any of the participants was/is?

Maybe I’d buy that (and still might on the part of some of the thugs), but the parting shot from at least one of the parties proves otherwise for at least that one thug/witness/participant/skank.

You guys don’t understand, it was about justice for Trayvon Smiff, the local crack dealer, who was run over by some redneck’s 4X4 pickup.
And looking at that bucket of lard being stuffed into a cruiser, maybe he was about 15 of the mob of 20?

*ahem*
LALALALALA!
It can’t possibly be racially motivated! I can’t hear you!

So, let me get this straight; if someone lips off and I work them over in Mobile, I won’t have charges pressed against me or face hate crime charges when someone mentions a racial motivation after the last time I beat them to within an inch of their life? Good to know.
