RIP, Lex
The word on the street is that iconic Milblogger, Carroll LeFon aka Neptunus Lex, was killed in an aircraft accident yesterday. I know he’s responsible for many of you being here at TAH, I also correctly predicted that he’d beat us for the Milbloggies award last year, because I recognize talent when I see it.
I don’t know Lex well, so I’ll let the people who did know him tell you about him;
An old interview with him on Milblogging.
All I know is that would have been his choice for meeting his last moments. He went out doing what he loved and with his boots on. What more could any man ask for from his Maker? We here are wishing blue skies for Carroll.

Didn’t have the privilege of knowing him, but read his work and he will be missed. RIP, sir.
He was the one who urged me to start my own blog. He mentored me at the start, and was always there when I had a question.
A gentleman and a gentle man.
God Speed, Lex.
God Bless him and comfort his family. Dead is gone, but damn there isn’t any other way to go than doing what you love. I’m certain he fought it ’til the end with courage and skill, but the air is an unforgiving mistress.
Please post where donations in memorium can be sent.
Flying with angels right now no doubt. Deeply saddened and don’t know what else to say.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Tim: You’re the one who turned me on to his blog; and I thank you.

Dang it, someone must have left a window open, cuz it got really dusty in here all of a sudden.
He will be sorely missed. And not just because I bet he took the keys to the liquor cabinet with him when he went.
Wow…RIP, NL. may your family find comfort that you left them doing what you loved. A fitting way to go.
I met him a few times at the early milblog conferences. He was charming. Our community has lost a giant. RIP Lex.
[…] of the day is Neptunus Lex, in honor of Carroll LeFon, who died on the 6th in an aircraft accident. This ain’t Hell.. and AW1 Tim’s Blog have thoughts and roundups. I’ve read Neptunus Lex off and on for […]
It is interesting to me how people I have never met or really spoken to, and would not recognize in a crowd, have become almost as important in my life as people I see everyday. I generally start my morning here, and then shift on to other sites. Lex was not an everyday read, but was a frequent one and I feel like I have lost a friend.
Thus, to those of you who are still deployed or in “risky” businesses, could you please watch your collective sixes so I don’t have to feel this crappy again for a while please.
When I read first of his passing, my initial reaction was “SHIT!”
I never met him, but I read his blog for years, daily. I always feared that this day would come. Him, flying to the limits of his ability — feeling that he was contributing to the future of Naval (or others) aviation. This was his passion, and he LIVED it. As others have said, he escaped the hell of cubicle-doom to get the job at ATAC flying Kfirs. He posted about the long roll-out and the long landing roll-ins, and the weather-sealure failure about flying an aging bird long past its prime, but he never failed to give it all his very BEST. I do, and will, regret his passing.
God Speed, Neptunus Lex! You fly with Angels now.
