DC: Be the best crime victim you can be
That Supreme Court decision a few years back hasn’t taught the District of Columbia, our nation’s capitol, anything in the way of respecting people’s rights. Emily Miller at the Washington Times who spent more than six months and spending hundreds of dollars to qualify for a permit to own a handgun in the District, reports that in a community meeting about the 40% increase in crime in the first two months of this year with councilwoman Mary M. Cheh, crime victims confronted the councilwoman with questions about the difficulty of purchasing weapons. The response;
Paul Quander, the District’s deputy mayor for public safety and justice, responded that crime victims should give the criminals what they want. Mr. Portman protested, saying, “But how do you know you’re going live and survive? You’re completely at their mercy.”
Mr. Quander thinks victimhood is preferable to self-defense. “The problem is, if you are armed, it escalates the situation,” Mr. Quander told residents. “It is much better, in my opinion, to be scared, to be frightened, and even if you have to be, to be injured, but to walk away and survive. You’ll heal, and you can replace whatever was taken away.”

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject. Strange how that principle is expressed most clearly in our capital.

Mr. Quander should visit the family of every unarmed murder victim in DC to explain how the deceased was better off not to be able to protect himself.
Paul Quander is a complete fool. I believe he would tell you to get in the car with a perp, freely allow a perp to tie your hands, or not to struggle in the moments before a rape. Where I come from and how I have been trained and how I am now raising my family … know your environment, assess the circumstances, never lay down, react appropriately with speed, surprize, and violence. If the aggressor has a gun … shoot him before he kills you … if he has knife shoot him from a distance … and if he threatens you, your family, or other bystanders with serious bodily harm … disable or shoot him to illiminate the threat. Lay down and do nothing … NEVER.

I live in Okinawa now, but will be moving back to the states soon. I have two black belts, have taught my wife self-defense, have taught my 8 and 5 year old self defense.

It’s obstruction through tedium, since they can’t blatantly deny access, they’ll enact so many rules/regulations in your way to make it impossible by practicality. There is a reason I own a gun. It is located in a holster within reach of the head of my bed. It has a laser (zeroed to 25 feet), a light (thumb activated), and a custom trigger (did it myself, thanks Army Armorer classes). If someone wants my stuff, I’ll give it to them. $.12 at a time. Though, I think they might reconsider after I give them all $1.08 worth in .45 caliber installments.
btw, I live in Oregon and have a CCW. My “going out” pistol is an M1911A1 and the few cops I have showed it to (after being asked to see it) have envied me for having more stopping power than they do.
Here’s what a fellow poster on LF thought should happen to Quander or any of his libtard, ass-hat buddies in DC:
1. Engage in conversation, and ask if defending yourself against a criminal is appropriate.
2. When he says “No,” ask, “Why not?”
3. Wait until he says something to the effect of “Because that would just cause more violence, which would be awful and we should not
cause more violence.”
4. When he’s in mid sentence, punch him in the face as hard as you can.
5. When he gets back up to punch you, point out that it would be a mistake and contrary to his values to strike you, because that would be
awful and he should not cause more violence.
6. Wait until he agrees, and has pledged not to commit additional violence.
7. Punch him in the face again, harder this time.
8. Repeat steps 5 through 8 until he understands that sometimes it is necessary to punch back.
I like this idea…a lot!
My father, God rest his soul, always told me to make sure they landed in the house if I had to shoot anyone. As for it’s better to be a victim, fuck that Mr. Deputy Mayor. If someone ever tries to make me a victim I’m making them a victim back.
