Emily gets her gun

| January 19, 2012

If you haven’t been paying attention, the Washington Times is running a series of articles written by Emily Miller on the trials and tribulations of becoming a gun owner in DC. The series begins with her decision to buy a gun when she confronts a large crowd of thugs in her neighborhood and realizes that she only has a Blackberry with a no-round magazine.

Rather than me posting all of the articles (there are more than ten) in the series, just go to the first link and click the links at the bottom of the page to the next article. It’s fairly obvious to me that DC wants to smother prospective gun owners with paperwork and hoops to jump through.

ADDED: Speaking of guns and hoops, New York Post reports that a toy store owner in NYC was fined $30,000 for stocking toy guns.

[T]he .44-caliber fines for the orange-tipped, obvious fakes are forcing him to close for good.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” said Khaled Mohamed, 23, manager of 99¢ Target in Flatlands, which has been ordered to pay a staggering $5,000 fine for each gun offered for sale — the maximum under the law.

Yeah, that’s how you stop crime, put shop owners out of business.

Guns are scary. I feel my insides wiggling right now at the thought of scary noise making guns. I think I might soil my self thinking about scary people with guns. We should lock up all those evil red necky types.

Way to reduce crime AND raise revenue and employment, all in one action.

Dang to have had the soft pellet guns when I was growing up. I did get a M16 Marauder back in the late 60s early 70s. That was a really trick toy to play army with. Gawd to have the realist toy guns they have now back then, mom would of never gotten me inside for dinner and the woods behind the house would of been littered with dead naazies!

A government with the ability to tax/fine enables it to destroy.

Mike W: A government without the ability to tax/fine is also incapable of existing effectively. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguing for the ridiculous taxes and whatnot that exist, but all I’m saying is, we tried a government that couldn’t tax or fine anyone about a couple centuries ago, and it ceased to exist eight years later.

But the thing is, you still need a stable government that has enough money to maintain civil services (e.g. the military). I don’t agree with tax hikes or liberals in general, but taxes are still a necessary evil.

This is why I live in the south.

You all need to come to Arizona! Our state legislature is always cooking up ways to get weapons into everyone’s hands large enough to hold them! While I think NYC is off the ‘looney meter’ scale it can be just as bad when things go in the opposite direction. The Arizona state legislature wants to allow ANYONE & EVERYONE to be able to carry a side arm, except those prohibited by law, felons, the mentally ill, democRATS, etc. No training, no back ground checks, no nothing. If you own it, you can carry it. Kinda worries me.

@11 you know there is that Sharif in Pima country that, if he has his way would take it all away.

OWB

@11 In reality it makes more sense to require everyone to be armed than it does to require that no one be armed. Both extremes are wrong, of course, but it is something to think about.
