Miss your M24? Remington will fix that.
So, have you missed that sweet M24 sniper rifle that was your constant companion for all of those months while you were over there. Some days it seemed like your only friend and life hasn’t been the same since the last time you turned it over to the armorer. Well, Remington is making a few thousand available according to Army Times;
The rifle will run you $3,500. That may seem like a big chunk of change, especially when you can buy Remington’s Model 700 XCR Tactical Long Range for $1,500. But the M24 is in a whole different league, and its asking price is about half the original cost, Shaw said.
“The barrel is unique, the rifle is drill-tapped for the open sights. … There is just no other gun like this that we make,” he said. “Just the stock and scope would cost you $2,000. You can build or buy something that will match this capability, but it will cost you $6,000. And it won’t be an M24.”
Remington will take orders beginning in mid-January
I owned the Model 700 at one time and it was the best deer rifle I ever owned, but I guess 3500 bucks is just a tad outside my price range for something to kill large edible rats.

Missing something like 10 Billion dollars?
It was reported that a teacher in India with a 700 dollar a month salary was checking his bank balance online to see if had reecieved an intrest payment. He found out that 10 billion US dollars had been depostied in to his account.
By my calculations, and I am an accountant, there is only one place that kind of money comes from. Pentagon slush funds.
There was no doubt a typo on the transfer. Now some cover story will be devised to explain away this figure as some kind of innocent mistake. Follow the money trail and it will lead back to the Palace on the Potomac.
I hope that the teacher gets to keep the money. It will not be missed by anyone who worked for it. As I said before, Follow the money trail. 10, billion will buy a lot of sniper rifles.10 billion will buy a lot of expert programers. 10 billion will buy a Coupe even in a country like Germany. Whoopee Rupee!
Maybe Mark Wahlberg will buy one. He can use it to fight terrorists on airplanes. He did play a sniper in that movie, remember?
WTF? Pelt what does this have to do with buying an M-24?
You’re right that is a bit expensive for simple Deer hunting, but I’d still want one. though
I still have my Model 700 but it is chambered 30.06 not .308. I began shooting it a long time ago, ironically back when I was a sniper. I was pretty giddy when the Army adapted it and then modified it to become the standard sniper rifle. That was a rifle that I could hit center mass and group within 6 inches at 300 yards right out of the box.
Screw deer hunting. There’s squirrels needing The Fear put in ’em…
Dave, for that there’s an AMR .17. .308 would be a bit of overkill, wouldn’t it?
pretty sure i can out as accurate a rifle together for less than $3500. The fact that Remington states is go’s for half the asking price is why there is money to be cut from the military budget.
now a nice rifle that’s good for knocking off your Rats with antlers (with a few mods) is the M-14. I know some of the sharp shooters prefer bolt action, but as platforms go the M-14 is a good one.
The question IS NOT:
can I afford the rifle
The question IS:
can I afford the divorce after I bought it.
Hey Honey…..Look what I just won in a raffle..(This only works once so make sure it’s the gun of your dreams.) M24 is a hell of a tool but not really my style these days.
“Hey honey! Look what followed me home from the sporting goods store! Ain’t it cute?”. lol
Steadfast–if you can afford the gun, you can afford my lawyer, but don’t expect to keep anything else, including your paycheck for the next several years.
Does it come with optics, I wonder?
“Look what I won in a Raffel.” That is real funny.
When one considers what passes for comedy on popular American sit coms, it is down right genius.
.308 might be overkill for squirrels, but I’m sure it’d be great for woodchucks. Then again, my SKS works well for them, too. And, one coyote.
Well….my wife did find a $400 reciept for Sam’s Dollhouse in my wallet after my commander’s bachleor party and she is still with me.
So I guess it can’t be that bad.
Hmmmm….I went to school and grew up with the M21, then transitioned to the M24, and I’m not sure which one I ever liked better. That being said, this looks a great way to spend my deployment pay.
That raffle cover story may just work…..
I heart gun pr0n.
I own the Rem 700 in 7 mag and it is absolutely my favorite rifle of those I’ve owned. The $480 I paid for it at Cabela’s is just a tad more raesonable than #500, though.
$3500*
