The closest I came to a Bob Hope show was underway, and rearming from the carrier he was on.

Bob Hope: A Real Class Act.

Wow. I always liked Bob Hope.
I guess the closest thing to Bob Hope we have today is Gary Sinese (sp?) and the LT Dan Band?

The man can’t fathom the impact he made on morale. Quite possibly helped us win battles. A soldier is seperated from his family and lives in a bubble, he can almost forget what he’s fighting for. Bob Hope reminded him that there were people back home with thoughts and prayers for the men in harms way.

Just a short story of my trip to see the Bob Hope Show. Was a newbie in my squad. The squad leader had us draw straws to see who the one out of our squad would get to go. Yours truly won…pissed the old guys off. So off I flew in the slick with one each from the other three squads. Great show from the distance in Long Binh. Wrote home about it. Got a letter back that my brother had been at the same show. We never saw each other in Nam. He did once make the journey from Adv Tm 73 compound to our rear area in Bien Hoa but of course we were in the bush and therefore I missed him. Saw him again seven years later aftyer he returned from his later hazardous duty as an Army golf pro/ski instructor in Germany.

It’ll be hard for anyone to beat Bob Hope, ever!
