Occupy Oakland’s 99% cost city $2.4m

| November 15, 2011

Tman sends us a link from SFGate which relates the cost to the city of Oakland for the Occu-tards there.

The city said Monday that it had spent $2.4 million since the first tent was pitched at Frank Ogawa Plaza on Oct. 10, including $1.1 million in police costs alone. Those expenses shot up sharply with Monday’s sweep to clear out the encampment outside City Hall.

The 13 outside law enforcement agencies that sent officers to help Oakland police will charge a total of $500,000, officials said.

So who is it the 99% are trying to help with this round of theater? How many homeless children could have been housed, how many hungry children could be fed? Smooth move, Ex-Lax.

Meanwhile, the OWS in new York City have been ejected this morning according to the New York Times

The protesters, about 200 of whom have been staying in the park overnight, initially resisted with chants of “Whose park? Our park!” as officers began moving in and tearing down tents. The protesters rallied around an area known as the kitchen, near the middle of the park and began building barricades with tables and pieces of scrap wood.

Whose park? Dozens were arrested for resisting the police.

Occupy Portland is being cleaned up by city workers (from Oregon Live);

[Bob Downing, central services manager for the parks bureau] said about 70 dump truck loads of trash and debris were hauled from the camps over the weekend. He said about 30 city employees worked Sunday to clear the parks.

Nice.

I could not care less. The people of that burg elected that mayor and they can foot the bill for the slop. As for No-Balls Bloomberg in NYC, he also says that the crud will be permnitted to return to the park but, this time, without tents. Maybe the mob will walk around Macys, Rockefeller Plaza, and Radio City for the benefit of the Christmas visitors. That would be just swell!

Jeff

I guess they out stayed their welcome. It is about time they started to get rid of these protestors. Dallas my home town stated that people could protest during the day but did not allow tents or anyone to stay past 10 when the parks closed. It is because of this strict enforcement that none of the violence and problems that you are seeing now will occur here, and the tax bill because of the protest will be lower.

Davy Crockett said it best on the floor of the US Capital, “You can all go to hell, I’m going to Texas”

Jeff–and yet there were still 14-year old girls being sexually assaulted in Dallas.

In a way, I’m kind of disappointed Bloomy finally grew a set. I was hoping to be on the upwind side of the park and see the world’s largest concentration of douchebaggery outside of Congress.

It’s looking like the New York group’s getting the boot too. They’re supposedly tossing everything not carried out as they’re evicted. I think it’s hilarious, though I’m disappointed I don’t get to see a modern study of how the plague spread.

I wonder if they could match faces up and issue bills to the occupiers.

Jeff

NH Sparky she originally told the cops that she had sexual intercourse with the person in question and several others before changing her story to that of being sexually assauled.

Also she told people that she was 19

You know, I went to Glenn Beck’s rally on on 8/28 with my Tea Party group. I personally picked up three pieces of trash, because those were all I could find. One of those was an empty matchbook that was almost buried and stomped into the grass… Yeah, the Occupy movement is just like the Tea Party.

Well, almost. The Tea Party didn’t rape anyone, didn’t get arrested, didn’t make anti-Semitic comments, didn’t shoot anyone, didn’t illegally sleep in a park, didn’t… yeah, you get the picture.

Sorry Jeff, I may be old, senile, blind, etc., but even I in this day and age can tell the difference between a 19-year old and a 14-year old.

Rule of thumb–if she looks too young, she IS.

NH Sparky

I do agree with you there, got to be careful in this day and age. What I was getting at was that originally she said it was consentual but then cried foul. Its like trying to have your cake and eat it too.

I was briefly stationed in Texas for training. Part of the base in-briefing was a PowerPoint called “She’s Not As Old As She Looks.”

Just Plain Jason

Just because she wants to be passed around like a bong doesn’t mean she should be. Plus I do believe that 14 is under the age of consent so even if she had a neon sign saying dive in boys it doesn’t matter…she can’t consent.

JustPlainJason

No matter how old she told them she was.
