Feds arrest NM gunshop owner and family

| August 31, 2011

After the firing of acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Kenneth Melson, and the resignation of U.S. Attorney for Arizona Dennis Burke, Feds announced that they arrested a family of gun smugglers in New Mexico according to a Fox news article mailed to us from VTWoody;

“Those who sell firearms knowing that they will be illegally smuggled into Mexico to arm Mexican Cartels share responsibility for the violence that has been devastating Mexico,” U.S. Attorney Ken Gonzales said in statement.

Does this mean the Obama Administration is ordering it’s own arrest?

Not likely. US attorney and the BATF can allow convicted felons to buy HUNDREDS of weapons and allow them to be shipped without so much as the blink of an eye, but God help the average Joe if he/she misses a dotted “i” on the 3310.4.

“Does this mean the Obama Administration is ordering it’s own arrest?”

Nope. It only means they are setting up a fall guy and their alibis.

Old Trooper

It’s the old “don’t do as I do; do as I tell you” schtick.

Jonn, you know that this administration is above the law. Their ends justify their means.

Whitey_Wingnut

BATF shouldn’t be a government agency, it should be a store. I think it’s a little to late for them to start tryign to cover-up what they’ve been doing. Should instead be ratting out each and every person involved all the way up to CinC.

Law of Possibility and Probability: some one, some where, at some time, is guilty.

Waiting to see if the folks arrested are registered Republicans, again.

It is (or should be) a known fact, that you NEVER get into the middle of a federal sting. Whether they go good or bad, the only one who gets stung is you. There IS NO SUCH THING as “helping” the feds with their operations. Ever.

Frankly Opinionated

@#6 PintoNag:
You’ve got that right, for sure. They will come out squeaky clean, no matter how deep they are in the doo doo. I was raised, (I am an “old fart”), to do all I could to help law enforcement, and in a more naive time of my life did it; only to come out nearly guilty of crime. Never again.

PintoNag

@#7FO: I was raised the same as you, and I had two uncles who both retired from law enforcement. They both said the same thing: if a cop is in trouble, such as during an arrest, help him. If the feds attempt to get you involved in a sting, you stall them, wait until they leave, then call two people immediately: your lawyer, and the local investigative news reporter. It’s the only way to keep your neck out of a noose.

“…in a more naive time…”

That says it all, right there.

The only difference between the narco-cartels, and our police, is that we’re paying the pensions of the police.

Lemme guess, this gun store was one BATF directed to let guns “walk” and could testify to that effect…

The Old One

Well I was always taught that the only difference between the BATF and the Boy Scouts is that the Boy Scouts have adult supervision…just say’n

“The only difference between the narco-cartels, and our police, is that we’re paying the pensions of the police.”

Please explain, DaveO.

I was driving a lot yesterday so I guess I missed this. As far as I’m concerned, if these folks sold guns illegally to Mexicans, screw them. They deserve everything they get.

If they were part of the idiotic and criminal “gun walker” sting and are now somehow caught in the switches, I am sure that will come out on the wash. Should be no shortage of lawyers and investigative reporters willing to crawl around and ferret out the truth if these folks are somehow being wrongly charged.

Some folks aren’t a fan of the police here, which is no big secret. I tend to stay out of those comment threads just because they tend to disintegrate into a muddle of anti-cop blather that chaps my ass, but I really have to ask DaveO what he means by that.
