Hillar sentenced to 21 months

| August 31, 2011

Bill Hillar, arrested in January for perpetrating a fraud on federal law enforcement agencies and students, was sentenced in a maryland courtroom yesterday to 21 months in prison according to the link sent to us by ROS and Just A Grunt to the Washington Post;

Still, Hillar insisted, he is a patriot who visits Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and goes to airports to greet veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars when they return from tours of duty.

“It’s very difficult to admit to myself that I’m a fraud,” Hillar said.

Yeah, well, maybe you’ll come to own that conclusion before your sentence ends, Bill, m’boy. Hillar was busted by some of his students who happened to be veterans and thought the story he told about being the model for the movie “Taken” was a bit fishy.

Fox News says that Hillar also owes $170,000 dollars to the agencies he defrauded.

He must pay $170,000 in restitution to the law enforcement and first responder organizations and schools that hired him believing that he had spent 28 years in the U.S. Special Forces, reaching the rank of colonel.

Well, he owes veterans a debt that can’t be repaid.

IMO: 21 months, and being the poster boy for consequences, is restitution enough.

@ ROS, that was the first thing that went through my mind.
Didnt they do any backround checking? Its typical government mindset. spend now dont ask questions. The people that hired this clown should reimburse the monies that were miss spent. They FAILED to do their jobs.

Not Sad here.

We have a National Cemetery in our area . And a Viet Nam KIA -MIA Wall at our fair grounds.
We have extended family at the National Cemetery and know some folks on the Texas wall.
The Family and I have encountered more than a few that could have been wannabes. Lie to me is one thing Lie to my kids is a different matter.

The Fair Grounds are one thing and beyond Government control.

But I think the D-FW National Cemetery all of them for that matter Should have a sign in sheet where a computer check is done and require a Bright colored I am a vet ID BADGE for the folks who want to walk around wearing any item that could be mistaken for Military Uniform Head Gear or Regalia.
If they can’t pass a check then leave or lock it up. While I realize some things can’t be confirmed I am sure there are records that can be crossed checked for the higher Military Awards, POW Status and Elite forces.
They could do us a Favor and Stop the Stolen Valor folks at the Gate .

I don’t want any of those folks around my kids. Some more than others.
