And Then What? Vietnam

| June 10, 2011

Caveat: This would would a simple geezer post except us geezers aren’t likely to be involved.

I just got back from a mini-road trip. Only reason that is probative here is that I was helping a fellow Nam vet.

Then I find this: Hanoi plans live-fire drills.

Vietnam’s navy will stage unprecedented live-fire drills off its central coast on Monday in an apparent escalation of Sino-Vietnamese tensions over the South China Sea – a dispute that has so far involved only civilian ships.

I have been sorta tracking this story, but this escalation begs the question; Who does Hanoi ask for help in this case?

The UN, The Russians, India, or…

I am a documented paranoid so me thinking our CINC would involve the USN is likely flawed.  After all there ARE few Muslims in VN compared to Libya or Yemen.

YMMV

Yet another chapter in the Spratly dispute. Also a sequel to the short lived Sino Viet border war.

Doubt that the CINC will go with aiding either side. If we aid the Viets, well, they might actually let us have some Spratly oil. Can’t have that! If we aid the Chinese, those halcyon days of Bill Ayers ( the CINC’s mentor) will have been for naught, because we’ll have the Second War in Vietnam going. Bill did help to win that one for his side. He’s a geezer now, and I’m sure lacks the energy to bomb a roach infested garage, much less a police station. We’re going to sit this one out

Let’s send a destroyer to the Tonkin Gulf. What could possibly go wrong?

Wait and see one day we have troops in Viet Nam again. When China starts kicking their can, Who ya gonna Call? Uncle Sam!

I find this report amazing. No, not that Vietnam is going to train with live fire. That VN has a Navy. What, did they find their other oar?
