Updates on The Murder of Cpl. Guerena (Donation Info Included)
This is starting to become a big story. I’m trying to stay on top of it as much as I can. Here are some new updates and some analysis from other commentators that I think are worthwhile.
Over at the Daily Caller, Brent Hatley wrote a column about Keith Olbermann’s hypocrisy regarding this story. From the beginning we at TAH have pointed out that the left-wing media in this country has been silent on this matter, when in the past they have jumped the gun on other incidents like this with other law enforcement organizations. If they do report the story, they will usually leave out Dupnik’s name. I am glad that people are starting to recognize that the left-wing media in Arizona (and now nationally) is trying to cover for Dupnik.
In trying to cover for Dupnik, some media outlets are going to try and smear Guerena. We have heard ridiculous stories about law enforcement uniforms being found at his house, which turned out to be a Border Patrol cap that you can buy almost anywhere in Arizona. Then there was the nonsense about the picture of the patron saint of drug dealers in the house, which seems to be a bunch of bullshit as well. Then there is crap likes this which has appeared on the website for my local paper, the Arizona Republic:
Among the items seized at the four homes was a silver-plated 0.38-caliber handgun, or a “Super 38,” a popular status weapon among Mexican traffickers.
Really? The idiot who wrote that (and the Arizona Republic has a lot of idiots working for it) has watched too many movies about Mexican drug dealers. I guess when its okay to use racial stereotypes (and thats what the above statement is ladies and gentlemen) when we are talking about a veteran and gun owner, but not your average minority.
But the fact remains: NOTHING ILLEGAL WAS FOUND IN JOSE GUERENA’S HOUSE. PERIOD. END OF STORY. Even the Sheriff’s office admits that and the idiot attorney who is representing the SWAT team admits that as well. All this talk about the guns, body armor, and uniforms are just a smear and nothing else.
Radley Balko, who just left Reason.com for the Huffington Post (ugh I know but at least somone is uttering Dupnik’s name over there now) has some new info on the story and has some interesting information up about Mike Storie. Apparently, Storie has been going around claiming that no law enforcement officer that has been his client has been convicted of a crime, but thats bullshit, just like everything else he says. One of his clients, a Nogales police officer, was prosecuted by the state of Arizona and was found guilty of sexual assault. Additionally, as suspected, Dupnik doesn’t have a problem with Storie running his mouth and is probably giving him orders behind the scenes.
Finally, there is a bank account setup through Bank of America where you can make monetary donations to a memorial fund for Jose Guerena’s family. The acct number is: #457022390833 I have checked it out along with OldSoldier54 and it appears to be legit (it was setup by one of his cousins, who both OS and I been in contact with). Here are the instructions from OldSoldier54:
Made a deposit this morning at local BoA branch. The name is : Jose Guerena Memorial Acct, fill in your own address, the number you gave me, and use the pink “Out of State” deposit form for those of us outside of Arizona. They said if you have a BoA account, you can do this online using the account number on the “inside” transfer page.
Five to ten bucks from a couple dozen TAH readers will go a long way.
Jonn added: Beat and Release does an excellent job of summarizing the statement of SWAT supervisor Sgt. Krygier.
Category: The Guerena Killing
So, which of the four homes was this revolver confiscated from? I doubt it came from the Guerena home or they would have specifically mentioned that. But again, as you state, it is not illegal to own one. They have been totally unable to tie him to any illegal activity except by innuendo or outright lies.
Thanks for the updates OD and OS54. Appreciate all the info.
Having “Boots on the Ground” there does wonders to help sift through the BS that the PCSO is putting out. If it wasn’t for our perserverance, this would more than likely, already be a dead issue.
Thanks Dan n Old Soldier.
Thanks for the update…I am trying to keep others informed and I have referred quite a few people here as a good source.
Well done, ODan! *hooah*!
Well, well, well. It’s on FOX … finally.
Well done Old Soldier! garryowen
Going over to Beat and Release, I find an excellent, no holds barred analysis. Thanks for adding the link to that, Jonn.
The way this tragedy is shaking out, I find myself pissed off and sad at the same time.
Ditto, Old Trooper. Ditto.
Thanks for the link – I’m honored. I just finished editing all five analysis posts for grammatical errors and added a few ‘EDITS’ for items that came to mind while reviewing the posts this afternoon. I hope you folks find the post interesting and informative.
There are going to be a lot more twists and turns in this case. Eight years in the military and decades in police work have resulted in a particular outrage over this case. Even as a career police officer/supervisor I believe the profession needs to be held accountable. As someone else said in comments somewhere, “Own your fuck-ups” rather than try to cover them up.
I have expert qualifications in a variety of forensic fields and would be more than happy to assist the Guerena family in any way necessary.
Remember Jose Guerena this weekend as well as our other veterans who paid the ultimate price. Jose didn’t die in combat per se, but he did die at the hands of a questionable and over-bearing government and it’s agents.
I look forward to it, B&R.
One other thing I note from the comments by the shit for brains LEOs in Pima county; if they had such a fit over what they found for weapons in the house, they would have a fucking stroke looking in my house or some of my friends houses (I have far less than my friends, but more than what Cpl. Guerena had). The point is that they aren’t saying that any of what they found was illegal, which it’s not, but they look like total scumbag pussies for trying to make it something it’s not, just because they stepped on their dicks in this mess.
Might be some future ATF Gunrunnin’ leaders among that group, Old Trooper.
Once again, the media displays its profound lack of knowledge about anything having to do with firearms. Mexican gun laws are very strict. For instance, the .45ACP had long been banned for civilian ownership and use. For a great many years, civilians have been allowed the .38 super, which has long been chambered in the Colt 1911. It is therefore not surprising that anyone in Mexico might have a handgun chambered in .38 Super as that is generally the most powerful semiautomatic pistol cartridge available to the public. Other media accounts have suggested that a Colt .38 special revolver was found in Guerena’s home. Either weapon would have been perfectly legal and as I noted, if a weapon chambered for one of the most commonly available calibers in Mexico–a caliber that is hardly rare in the US–was found, this no more links Guerena to Mexican trafficantes than my owning a Glock in 9mm links me to Nazis, who also commonly used the 9mm cartridge during WWII.
Hey Beat and Release? Very well done, brother. I’m still reviewing what you wrote and it is well….FANTASTIC!
OT#12, yeah, I wonder if they would have called my Remington Semi-auto 30-06 an assault rifle. And they would have had an absolute shit-fit over my SKS. Not to mention my 7.65 Mauser.
BandR, I was taught that “raids” such as this were always under the command of at least a Lieutenant, not something to shoved off on a patrol officer by some sergeant too lazy to do his job. And, the so-called counter surveillance claim is just lame, as are the gun claim, the drug lord pic and the “home invasion crew” claim. Are they throwing that out there as some kind of lazy assed justification for running and gunning?
UpNorth – Apparently they want us to believe only a member of a home invasion crew would such items in his home. Hell, according to Krygier, they found some body armor stored in a Tupperware container in the garage. Hmm…..I have dealt with a few home invasion crews in my time and in reality they usually have that shit in their car, not stored neatly away in Tupperware.
would ‘have’ such…..sorry…..just had a third of a jar of some of the best pineapple moonshine on the planet. 🙂 🙂
The AZ Star put up a sound file from the SWAT team at 2315. My analysis of that file is up at the blog. What a mess – insubordination, a Sgt. begging and cajoling others to get his rifle for him, and finally ending with members of the team telling their ‘war’ stories before being reminded they are being recorded. Sheesh.
