Heath Shuler for VP?

This was written by a long time Democrat state senator in Virginia. He seriously seems to think that Heath Shuler would be a good VP choice for Obama.

His reasoning is beyond ridiculous.

A top passer at the University of Tennessee and runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 1993, Shuler played several seasons for the Washington Redskins, thus also giving him name recognition in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. area.

Well, I won’t question his name recognition but I wouldn’t question General Sherman’s name recognition in Georgia either. While it is true that everybody in the Northern Virginia, DC area knows his name; the football fans among them universally loathe the man.

He was far from being the savior of the Washington Redskins. In 2004 ESPN rated him the 17th biggest sports flop of the past 25 years. In 2008, ESPN rated him the 9th biggest NFL draft bust of all time.

Salon.com reported that the “primary in West Virginia, a very rural state, was a blowout. Clinton won it by 41 percent, and she won all 55 counties. Similarly, in rural Ohio she beat Obama by 33 percent. In Pennsylvania, a much more metropolitan state, she won 56 of the state’s 63 counties, including Allegheny, Appalachia’s most populous county, where Pittsburgh is located. Her margins in the rural Appalachian counties of western Pennsylvania were West Virginia-size.

The reality is that Obama got throttled in these areas for two primary reasons. One, he is black. Two, he is not a woman. Heath Shuler does not change Obama’s pigment and that whole woman thing is still a big issue.

Obama is a Democrat because he is the most liberal senator in Washington. Shuler is a Democrat because it was the only way for him to get elected.

They are both, however, totally empty suits.
