So, how do you screw up ambassador to Luxembourg?

How much of an idiot does it take to get fired from the US ambassador to Luxembourg? Well, apparently you only have to treat the embassy staff like slaves and be a big ass jerk who thinks that raising $500,000 for Obama’s campaign insulates her from the American taxpayer (from Associated Press);

“Those who have questioned or challenged some of the ambassador’s actions state that they have paid a heavy price in the form of verbal abuse and been threatened with dismissal,” it said.

The report said the State Department was aware of the situation and that a perceived lack of action in dealing with it could be harmful. “It is unfortunate that an impression is being created among officers and local employees at this mission that this kind of behavior may be routinely tolerated by Department of State leadership, particularly for non-career ambassadors.”

Half of Luxembourg is the American and German cemeteries from World War Two and everything from streets to water fountains are named George S. Patton, so it seems to me that the hardest part of the job is smiling and waving. And there’s, what, 12 people in the country after the tourist season.

I drove into Luxembourg by accident one Sunday morning. We’d been camping out in Trier, Germany and started tooling around. I came to an intersection with a fat cop standing on the far side who waved me through the intersection. Suddenly the signs were all in French and I saw signs directing us to the American Cemetery. So I stopped by to say “Hi” to Patton and the rest of the boys. Then we stopped by the German Cemetery up the road to pay our respects.

Hey! I’ve actually been to Luxembourg. Maybe I’m qualified to be ambassador. I certainly can’t screw it up any worse than this bint did.
