Just so you don’t forget

From an Associated Press newswire;

ADDS THE REASON WHY THE SOLDIERS WEARING SANTA HATS – Pfc. Kyle Garcia from Ridgefield, Wash., right, along with Spc. Steven Galvin from Holstein, Iowa, of 2nd Platoon Bravo Company 2-327 Infantry, returns fires after a sudden attack by Taliban on Combat Out Post Badel in eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010. The two U.S. soldiers were wearing Santa Claus hats to celebrate Christmas eve inside the small outpost when Taliban fighters shot at them from a hillside outside the base. Still wearing the hats, the soldiers rushed to take defensive positions and returned fire on the Taliban. (AP Photo/Rafiq Maqbool)

Ridgefield is just up the street (more or less) from those of us in Brush Prairie.

The local high school has the potato (Spud) as their mascot… as in the Ridgefield Spudders.

I hope this finds PFC Garcia well… along with the rest of his buddies.

And I, for one, don’t give a damn if he’s wearing a tutu as long as he shoots back, gets some, and comes out in one piece.

LOL! God bless American troops that happily kill the cult followers of an ancient pedophile…..on the Lords birthday 🙂

Reminds me of the pink boxer shorts incident.
Way to go guys. Shoot ’em in the Face!

I can’t express how much I LIKE this. As I sit here typing this wearing my Santa hat (seriously – I wore it all day, even whilst cooking the turkey and mashing the potatoes, etc.), all I can think of is: These guys are just… great.. for lack of any other word. Outstanding pics in the link #3.. Those are some big honking guns, both literally and figuratively speaking.

Its good to remind folks we’re still at war

Jacobite

My hat’s off to them if its true, but sure as hell looks staged to me.

Jacobite

Additionally, they were so rushed that a couple of them took the time to put in ear plugs? Definitely staged.

Sig

If I lose too much hearing, I get re-classified into some other, less sweet MOS. I have taken the opportunity during lulls in fighting to put in ear plugs.

Sig

Although, now that I think of it, my body armor would be a higher priority.

Jacobite

Exactly.

The Grinch was leading the talibasturd element that was probing their COP. Good show, boys!

PintoNag

It’s good to see them, and I’m glad none of them got hurt, no matter what happened.

Not to twist any tails or anything, but…if it was staged, why would they have bothered with the earplugs?

Jacobite

Pinto, those who cared would use ear plugs if it was staged to avoid unnecessary hearing damage while firing just for show. If it was a quick reactive response to incoming fire, I never saw any one take the time to put in earplugs, and never knew of anyone that did, if you were going to take the time to do anything it would be to don body armor. Even the guy back in 2009 in his pink “I love New York” boxers did that.

I’ll add to the body armor vs ear plugs controversy by also pointing out that in most of the pictures our shooters are way over exposed, and not showing the physiological signs I would expect of troops truly under fire. No it appears the AP mixed one, maybe two, actual combat photos with a bunch of hammed up boredom breaking photos, and sold it as a bigger story based on civilian ignorance.

PintoNag

Ok. I’m thinking “staged” as in posed pics…no firing going on.

I’ll crawl back under my rock now, and let the grownups continue with the conversation…

Spockgirl

Jacobite:
Killjoy. You ruined my testosterone fix. However, that being said, I too had “staged” in the back of my mind (two of the photos), but… that doesn’t and shouldn’t diminish what these guys do everyday. Even if it was staged, this is what the general public NEEDS to see MORE OF, not Code Pink and IVAW protests.
