MacDonald’s sued over Happy Meal toys

| December 15, 2010

The Center for Science in the Public Interest has filed a lawsuit against the MacDonald’s Corp for their “decision to markets its meals directly to young children”. Um, since when do kids have jobs and money with which they can make decisions about their purchases? Apparently some mother from Sacramento has joined the Center in the lawsuit. Is she looking for someone who can tell her kids ‘no’ so she doesn’t have to be a big ol’ meany?

The lawsuit was filed in California Superior Court in San Francisco on Wednesday morning.

They claim McDonald’s decision to markets its meals directly to young children violates several consumer protection laws because it exploits a child’s vulnerability.

A child’s vulnerability? Really? What children are running around with a wallet full of cash? My kids got one fast food meal a month (usually because that’s how often I could afford to feed them one) sometimes they chose a Happy Meal, but most of the time they wanted pizza at Pizza Hut. Are they going to sue Pizza Hut because they put cheese in the crust – cuz that’s what excited my kids.

I don’t understand this at all. I’ve never thought that all of my parenting failures could be solved in the courts.

But not Monet Parham;

According to Parham, the main reason her six-year-old daughter, Maya, asks to go to McDonald’s is to get toys based on Barbie, i-Carly, Shrek, or Strawberry Shortcake. The food seems almost beside the point to the kids, says Parham, because the toy monopolizes the attention of Maya and her two-year-old sister Lauryn.

Um, tell them ‘no’, ya twit.

“I am concerned about the health of my children and feel that McDonald’s should be a very limited part of their diet and their childhood experience,” Parham said. “But as other busy, working moms and dads know, we have to say ‘no’ to our young children so many times, and McDonald’s makes that so much harder to do. I object to the fact that McDonald’s is getting into my kids’ heads without my permission and actually changing what my kids want to eat.”

Oh, so all of the responsible people who only take their kids to MacDonald’s as a treat have to suffer because you want to be your kids’ buddy instead of a parent? If you don’t want MacDonald’s in your “kids’ heads”, turn off the TV, too, ya want-wit.

I know this has nothing to do with the military, it just cheesed me off.

I am right there with you. I am sick of tired of some self important organization or the federal government hiding behind the facade of they are just doing it for my own good. Hell no you’re not. You are doing it to control my life. Get the hell out of trying to regulate my behavior. In their world there are no adults, they treat us all like children while they pretend to be the grown ups.

Leave me the hell alone you bunch of over protective ninnies.

This is typical of the left. It’s always “No Fun Allowed” unless it’s perverse.

Drug laws should be repealed, but food that tastes REALLY good should outlawed.

Cars that go fast and are exciting to drive should be outlawed and we should all drive a Prius or a Volt so we can feel good about saving Mother Earth.

We can’t go to a Hooters in DC because men may see breasts on young women, but when they have a gay pride parade on the Mall, the crew-cut lesbians and their Order of the Hairy Aereola go topless in public so they can improve THEIR self- esteem.

Little kids should know about gays and oral sex in the first grade, but we can’t let them near Happy Meal Toys.

NFA — No Fun Allowed (unless its twisted.)

Oh, goodie…they’ve found another cash cow, now that they’ve bled the cigarette manufacurers to death…

Hang onto your speedloaders, ’cause just as soon as they figure out how to do it, the gun makers will be up for their turn in the barrel, too!

I’d be interested to see how the organization established standing–is it really based on a mother who can’t tell her kids “No” when they whine for junk food?

For heaven’s sake. What a waste of time.

Strap yourselves in as Chewie, the First Mate of the Millennium Teleprompter tries to Force the Empire to tell you what to feed your Ewoks…see what I did there?

In about 10 years, Ms-Can’t-Parent is going to have one heck of a rebel on her hands. Maybe she can sue her child now for all the crapola society will have to endure, and insure, later. Or is that prior constraint?

Spigot

OK, she and/or the douche impersonating her husband and the kids’ father need to be forcibly sterilized.

They have no…zip, nada…business being parents.

Amazing.

“It’s the unhappy battle over the Happy Meal and Parham, mother of two and a health educator, said it’s a fight she just can’t win.”

Can’t win a “fight” with your own six-year old daughter, but still willing to take on the world’s largest fast food restaurant in court? What a pathetic excuse for a parent.

That complaint was hilarious.

I’m thinking of starting a class action suit against Toys R Us for targeting my kids causing me to buy toys.

Or how about Disney for making me take my kids to an amusement park.

This list could go on and on.

To bad the beer companies have already been sued for false advertising with girls in bikinis showing up in the commercials.

I know a few of you hear are lawyer types but COMMON.

The kid and I go the McDonalds about once a week, usually when we go grocery shopping. It’s a nice little lunch together, and the price I pay for the meal is offset by the savings in the grocery store by not shopping for food on an empty stomach.

Spigot

#11, Tim, trust an old guy…the time and $ spent will be repaid many times over when your child and you remember the good times shared.

My daughter is 29 now, but she still talks with me about the time we spent together, just like you and your child are doing. She clearly appreciates the efforts made, in spite of the many separations during my military career.

They don’t forget…

I remember when the court system banned Joe Camel. It seemed like a massive overreach of governmental power at the time, but the lefties all argued that “They’re trying to market cigarettes to CHILDREN!”

I don’t appreciate tobacco companies selling cigarettes to children, but I also don’t appreciate the government telling private businesses that they can’t use a particular mascot. As long as stores are checking ID’s, cigarettes shouldn’t be getting into kids’ hands. I know it isn’t perfect; kids find ways to get smokes, one way or another. But then again, kids still find ways to get smokes, even after Joe Camel got fired.

And now…”They’re trying to market Happy Meals to CHILDREN!”

Uh, yeah…that’s who eats Happy Meals. Dumbasses.

I don’t eat at McDonald’s because there are much better places to eat. I don’t have kids, but if I did, I wouldn’t bring them there either. Can’t we just leave it at that? Do we really need the Happy Meal police?

Ben

As heard on the Howie Carr “Chumpline”:

The new FBI Most wanted list is out:

Number 1: Osama bin Laden
Number 2: Whitey Bulger
Number 3, and closing in fast: The HAMBURLER!

Doc Bailey

what happy horse shit! I mean really, the toy was the best part! This is just the sort of crap that Tort Reform should prevent!

Chuck

Used to be kids played outside ,and sometimes without helmets.
Maybe if they still had gym class they could work off all the fat. Let kids play and keep score you nanny staters.

So true. I told her that she only gets to be a child once, so don’t waste the opportunity by trying to grow up too quickly. 🙂

usnretwife

Just think, Tim, how much could be saved at Christmas time if you got the kid a happy meal with a toy before going shopping at the toy store. 🙂

AW1 Tim

heh….. much to ponder, there…

Stonewall116

How about parents running the family instead of the kids? How about a parent telling their child “no” every once in a while instead of caving to stop the screaming? Since when did McDonald’s force people to buy their kids Happy Meals or even to go eat there? Last I heard, you had a choice whether or not to eat at a fast-food restaurant.

Doc Bailey

Suing McDonalds cuz they make your kids fat NF. holding Happy meals up in front of the plaintiffs asking if they want more TFM

Michael in MI

Last I heard, you had a choice whether or not to eat at a fast-food restaurant.

Not for long. Just heard on Mitch Albom (forgot to turn the radio off after Hannity ended) that there is some bill they are pondering here in Detroit to ban fast food restaurants or something.

Just looked it up: Group seeks ban on new Detroit fast-food eateries

Amazing how the Left prattles on about having the “freedom of choice” to kill your developing baby, but turns around and wants to deny people the “freedom of choice” of what to eat (or what to drive, or how high to keep one’s thermostat or…).

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is an animal rights group hiding behind an intentionally misleading name.

Marooned in Marin

When I was a kid, I can probably count the number of times I had a Happy Meal on one hand. Growing up in Texas, we preferred Whataburger.

NHSparky

In-N-Out was and still is my favorite, even though we don’t have any up here.

Oh, and Mom? Here, try this on for size: “No.”

Try it again: “No.”

If they persist, do as my parents did–bust our asses for talking back to them.

It’s amazing, really. When did six-year olds gain the power to jack the keys to the minivan, drive to McD’s/BK/wherever, hit the drivethru and load up on Happy Meal whenever they wanted?

Oh, and if they’re “marketing” to your kids, there’s a way around that too–turn off the idiot box and throw the little crib lizards outside to play. Between that and not feeding them crap on a daily basis, you should have no problem with weight and all those fun side effects down the road.

Old Tanker

Marooned,

Man I miss the Jalapeno burger…..

Marooned in Marin

Old Tanker: I never had that ( not much of a Jalapeno fan ) but loved the full sized Whataburger with choc shake. I was in Texas a couple of months ago, and that was the first place I went after getting off the plane.

“If it will save one life. Isn’t it worth it?”

Tobacco was just the start to see what America and the judicial system will put up with. Somebody said that alcohol is next….of course it is. Alcohol, fast food, anything anybody can see a fast big buck in. A woman in NY or Mass, I forget, just got 71 Million in a suite against Newport Brand Cigs. “They targeted minorities….” This new “targeting minorities” will rear it’s ugly head again in more than cigs…guarenteed.

Responsibility, indeed. There is no responsibility for anything anymore.

Honor and Courage…(is all but gone)

Doc Bailey

Maroon I miss the triple waddaburger. And Sparky, you must have been a Californian. I LOVE in-n-out.

Parenting Fails are the worst because there’s really no way to fix them later on in life. The kids have usually already been thoroughly screwed by their retarded parents.
