John Edwards and Kharma
By now everyone has read that the National Enquirer busted John Edwards leaving the hotel where his paramour Rielle Hunter was staying with their love child in a Beverly Hills hotel earlier this week. Micky Kaus at Slate reported the LA Times has enacted a blackout on the news “Because the only source has been the National Enquirer we have decided not to cover the rumors or salacious speculations.”
Extra writes that Hunter denies the affair;
“Completely unfounded and ridiculous” is how Hunter describes a National Enquirer story claiming she has a love child with Edwards — and that she was recently visited by the married Edwards at a Los Angeles hotel.
Edwards denies it, too;
When asked about the allegations today in Houston, Edwards called the stories “tabloid trash,” adding, “They’re full of lies.”
Well, now Fox News has verified it independently;
The Beverly Hilton Hotel guard said he encountered a shaken and ashen-faced Edwards — whom he did not immediately recognize — in a hotel men’s room early Tuesday morning in a literal tug-of-war with reporters on the other side of the door.
“What are they saying about me?” the guard said Edwards asked.
So, why aren’t the media holding Edwards’ feet to the fire like the did Larry Craig and Mark Foley? Well Jack Shafer at Slate says it’s because Edwards isn’t provably gay;
So why hasn’t the press commented on the story yet? Is it because it broke too late yesterday afternoon, and news organizations want to investigate it for themselves before writing about it? Or are they observing a double standard that says homo-hypocrisy is indefensible but that hetero-hypocrisy deserves an automatic bye?
That’s my sense.
Well, NPR chose this week to run their exclusive interview with John Edwards and his war against poverty. He’s still running for President, he’s still talking about two Americas, and oddly enough, how America needs to find a solution to the problem of single-parenthood. More of that hetero-hypocrisy, I guess. Couldn’t be because he’s a Democrat, could it?

It’s probably true, but the Enquirer.. the paper that runs stories like “aliens ate my baby”. Wish it had been a news source with a tad more credibility. I’m sure the truth will eventually out, but it won’t matter. Look at Clinton and his shenanigans.. never mattered to the libs.
And of course, there is a definite double standard.

There’s a difference between loving his wife and loving someone else too, and saying gay people are evil and then going looking for gay sex yourself.

I’m sure it was more than a “visit.” Where does the “gay” business come in? The best thing I saw about this was “IMAO’s” take on the shattered hearts of “gays” to the “proof” he was heterosexual! Mind you, I had my doubts.
But, what, I’m supposed to “like” him better because he’s a heterosexual? A blood-sucking ambulance-chasing lawyer? I’m a lawyer, and I never chased ambulances.

Gramps, while I agree with you that I don’t personally find her attractive, who knows, she could be having a bad hair day? Also, after having a child, certain hormonal changes take place. Where did the “gay” business come in? To be perfectly frank, I certainly had my doubts about this turd, but so what? The best take I’ve seen on this is IMAO’s story about heart-broken queers. But again, so what? I’m happily heterosexual, and I actually have a preference for heterosexual women, but whatever Edwards does, or doesn’t do, does not impact on my life whatsoever. Why does it impact on yours?

Edwards didn’t have a wide stance in the stall, that proves he’s not gay, visiting his bimbo in a motel room doesn’t prove he had sex. End the rumors please, get the ‘baby’ a DNA test so Edwards can get back in the court room and prove DNA test aren’t reliable. Meanwhile his wife is dying of cancer so you must pity/support him, and not her. Edwards is burnt toast, and average people don’t like burnt toast. Before I went to law school, I was a member of the U.S. Army. While I was in law school, I was an “intern” in the U.S. Court of Military Appeals (as it was then known). After law school, I joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. After that, I transferred to what we call the Department of Justice (i.e., Main Justice). I’m still at DOJ. No chasing ambulances, notwithstanding the pportunities to enrich myself by Screwing civilians (a.k.a., victims). As anyone who has served in the Government knows, yes, there are circumstances where I could take my “expertise” and completely F*** up the system. I do not choose to do so.
You need to meet more Prosecutors to adjust your disbelief.
