SEAL trial opens

| April 21, 2010

So, the Punch Heard Round the World case has started in Iraq:

A U.S. sailor testified Wednesday he saw a Navy SEAL punch an Iraqi prisoner suspected of masterminding the killings in 2004 of four U.S. private security contractors, as the court-martial of another member of the elite unit allegedly involved in the incident opened at a military base outside Baghdad.

Petty Officer 1st Class Julio Huertas, wearing his blue Navy uniform, appeared in a military courtroom at the Victory Base Camp on Baghdad’s western outskirts to answer charges of dereliction of duty and impeding an official investigation. He has pleaded not guilty.

Huertas, 28, of Blue Island, Illinois, is the first of three Navy SEALs to go on trial in connection with the alleged assault of the Iraqi prisoner, Ahmed Hashim Abed. He is accused of failing to safeguard the prisoner and attempting to influence the testimony of another service member.

Let’s home the collateral bruising doesn’t ruin these guys careers.

This just seriously pisses me off.

I guess since I supervised forced cell extractions of detainees at Camp Delta, I can expect to be charged in the near future.

Yet none of those clowns down there will ever be charged with assault against my MP’s or me.

Sadly, in the PC climate of today’s military, even if they’re found not guilty, their careers are pretty much over. I’d love to find the asshole who thought prosecuting these SEALs was a good idea and drop them into Rimadi, Fallujah, Mogadishu, or 100 other AlQaeda infested ratholes and see how well a hug and a handshake work then.

I agree. I think this is a terrible travesty of justice. Shocking, really.

And lucky me, my unit is tasked with escorting the ‘detainee’ to trial every day. The soldiers are thinking of buying some Lysol to spray the guy with because he is seriously lacking in the personal hygiene department

Use Febreeze. Lysol has more skin irritants in it.

You don’t want to be charged with harming the SOB.

Better yet, some cheap perfume. He’ll be more popular when you return him to the cell.

Are you kidding???? [Biting tongue…thinking of repercussions to saying the wrong thing…]

God bless the Navy SEALS…I will be saying prayers for them.
