House GOP bans earmarks for caucus

| March 11, 2010

The Hill reports that the House GOP voted to ban ALL earmarks among members of their little club.

Yeah, OK, fine. That’s brave, it’s bold, it sends a message, blah, blah blah…it’s about four years too late. Do that when you’re in the majority and maybe I’ll turn the donation spigot back on for ya.

Well, it’s a start. I’m with you, I’ll be impressed if they actually stick to it…..

Ditto, Old Tanker. IT is a start, but if you aren’t in a position to enforce it for everyone in the Congress, it’s mostly symbolic.

Yes and no, Republicans were taking some pretty good earmarks so you are almost cutting them in half….the question is whether they stick to it after November. That’s when I’ll be paying attention. Fortunately my congress critter (Mark Schuaer) is running against Tim Wahlberg, when Wahlberg was in I don’t think he ever took any earmarks. I’ll have a very clear conscience voting for him and throwing his campaign a few bucks…

UpNorth

It would be very easy to throw a few bucks at a rock if it was running against Schauer. But, Wahlberg was a victim of Obama’s coat tails last time around. Here’s hoping your neighbors wake up this time, Old Tanker.

It’s going to take a lot more than a symbolic stand on earmarks (like Ron Paul’s 400 MILLION in earmarks) for me to regain my faith in the GOP. ALL spending needs to be cut, and they need to get a clue on tax policy, illegal immigration, and domestic drilling/energy policy, for starters.

UpNorth,

I’m guessing you don’t live too far from Schauer’s district if you know Wahlberg and Schauer. I’m in Jackson, where are you at?

This reminds me of the time that Paul Ryan called me in to show me the budget that the GOP was proposing for the VA. Mind you that they were no longer in power, and they were suggesting numbers like 20% higher than the year before. Wow, that is really brave, what with knowing that you don’t have the juice to pull it off, why not suggest 100% increase. That’s what the Dems do, promise the world to everyone under the sun.

GOP is the second worst political party out there. 3rd from worst if you could the Greens. The ONLY thing that encourages me to vote GOP is that the Dems are marginally worse.

UpNorth

OT, I don’t live that close, north of Grand Rapids, close to Greenville, little spot on some maps called Coral. But, I’ve followed the assclown, Schauer’s, career. Along with Gary, I live and work in Mt. Pleasant but represent Oakland County, Peters. I’ve lived in Vern Ehler’s district, was always jealous of those who lived in Pete Hoekstra’s district and now live in Dave Camp’s district.

Amen.

Amen, indeed. It might be nice if the GOP remembered the adage about “Leadership by Example”.
