Massa threatens to rescind resignation

| March 8, 2010

My cousin Scott sends me this from Roll Call about Scott’s soon-to-be-former Congressman, Eric Massa;

Responding to a caller to his weekly radio show on WKPQ Power 105 FM, a recording of which was made available via the Web site of local station 13 WHAM-TV, Massa said: “I’m not going to be a Congressman as of 5 o’clock [Monday] afternoon. The only way to stop that is for me to rescind my resignation. That’s the only way to stop it. And the only way that’s going to happen is if this becomes a national story.”

During the hour-and-a-half show, Massa said that Democratic leaders are using the House ethics committee to get him out of office before the vote on health care because he voted against the House health care bill last fall.

Well, he voted against the healthcare bill because it wasn’t “robust” enough for his liking according to Fox News;

Massa, who supports a robust government health insurance plan, was one of 39 House Democrats who voted against the health care bill last year.

So he’s really no sympathetic hero in all of this – he wants both the public option and single-payer plan. Fox also details the incident that put on the ropes for a sexual harassment charge;

Massa said he had just gotten up to sing Auld Lang Syne and had finished dancing with the bride and bridesmaid — in full view of cameras — when he sat back down at a table with male staff members.

That’s when he made the “inappropriate” remark.

“One of them looked at me and, as they would do after, I don’t know, 15 gin and tonics, and goodness only knows how many bottles of champagne, a staff member made an intonation to me that maybe I should be chasing after the bridesmaid, and his points were clear and his words were far more colorful than that.

“And I grabbed the staff member sitting next to me and said, ‘Well, what I really ought to be doing is fracking you,'” he said.

That ain’t so bad, if it’s true, but it does show poor judgement on his part. Yeah, you can probably chalk it up to his Navy years, but I can’t imagine an officer in my chain of command doinng soemthing like that.

And like I said last week, I don’t care why he’s gone, I’m just glad he’s gone. Well, if the Democrat leadership doesn’t screw up his resignation.

“Yeah, you can probably chalk it up to his Navy years, but I can’t imagine an officer in my chain of command doinng something like that.”

Nor can I–not after 3 training duty stations, 3 seagoing commands, and tour in recruiting. I never saw anything approaching that level of unprofessionalism, or at least asshattery. Yell, bitch, browbeat, maybe–but never offer to bang another guy.

Dude, you guys would be blown away by the enlisted ranks now-a-days.

No one ever told me how gay Marines can be when no one is looking; but its all good if you call “no-homo.” And afterall, it’s not gay if you’re in cammies.

If that’s really what Massa said, I can’t believe this is an issue. I wouldn’t expect that kind of talk from an officer to a subordinate, but I’m willing to guess that a congressman and his staff members might be a pretty tight knit group…like my squad. And like my squad, they probably make gay jokes all the time and no one with a sense of humor takes it seriously.

People are take themselves waaaaaay too seriously these days.

I love it that he casuing a stink rather than going quietly into the night. Hell, I would be pissed to if I was being pushed out over an inappropriate comment and Rangel gets a slap on the hand for a criminal act(s). Hopefully he will stir up some dissention in the ranks and then go away.
