The US to reduce its Middle East presence in anticipation of Israeli strike on Iran

| June 12, 2025 | 42 Comments

The U.S. has placed its embassies and military bases in the Middle East on high alert. The State Department authorized the evacuation of some personnel in Iraq and the Pentagon authorized the departure of military family members from across the region. President Donald Trump expressed reduced confidence than earlier this year that a deal with Iran could be reached in a desirable time.

From The Washington Post:

The heightened security environment comes as President Donald Trump expresses dimming hopes of achieving a deal with Iran that would restrict its nuclear program and forestall a potentially cataclysmal military confrontation in the Middle East.

“I’m less confident now than I would have been a couple of months ago. Something happened to them, but I am much less confident of a deal being made,” Trump told the New York Post.

In recent months, U.S. intelligence officials have grown increasingly concerned that Israel may choose to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities without the consent of the United States. Such a move would almost certainly scuttle the Trump administration’s delicate nuclear negotiations and prompt an Iranian retaliation on U.S. assets in the region.

Tehran has long said the United States, as Israel’s biggest military and political supporter, would suffer consequences in the event of an Israeli strike on Iran.

The State Department recently ordered all embassies within striking distance of Iranian assets — including missions in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Northern Africa — to convene emergency action committees (EACs) and send cables back to Washington about measures to mitigate risks.

That procedure led to Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s decision Wednesday to authorize the departure of nonessential personnel in Iraq.

“We are constantly assessing the appropriate personnel posture at all our embassies,” said a State Department official who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive security matter. “Based on our latest analysis, we decided to reduce the footprint of our mission in Iraq.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, meanwhile, has authorized the “voluntary departure” of military family members from installations across the Middle East, a defense official said.

U.S. Central Command, the military headquarters overseeing the region, is working in close coordination with State Department counterparts and allies to maintain a constant state of readiness to support numerous missions at any time, the official added.

Trump made it clear last month that we were leaving the Middle East to the MIddle Easterners. Nobody in that region wants a nuclear armed Iran threatening everyone.

I know I don’t

Iran’s going to be firing back at Israel with all the ballistic missiles it can… watch.

Sounds like Mossad took care of a lot of them..

Rather crude but I’m with ya either way….

Graybeard

Crude, but effective

MustangCryppie

First goal should be decapitation of the leadership. With that there with be a lot of very happy Israelis… and Iranians.

5JC

Everyone except for the Palestinians.

SFC D

Nobody in the Middle East really gives a shit about them anyway.

Happening now and has decapitated the IRGC.

Unfortunately, they get the Ayatollah yet.

The Iranian nuclear program next.

Graybeard

It has begun.
Mossad has spoken of target assassinations today.
IDF has spoken of Israeli planes bombing nuclear facilities today.

Judgement has come on Iran today.

Old tanker

Is it me or wasn’t there talk about a potential for a regime change in iran a few months back? Something about the general population being less than happy with the hardliners in charge.
Maybe this could get that done.

That’s some brilliant open-source intel work right there!

Let the Jews loose to smack them A-rabs across the nose with a rolled up newspaper, Goddamnit!!

A Proud Infidel®™

I doubt the Israelis will settle for just using a rolled-up newspaper, I bet they’ll go in with everything!

How about we just reduce our presence in the Middle East, period? We’ve got the capacity for energy independence. Other than ensuring a steady supply of military equipment to Israel and anybody who wants to oppose Iran, we just leave. No diplomacy. No trade. Let China sort out how to keep it stable.

That is the new policy moving forward. And if oil prices go up because of our lack of effort than; oh, well, too bad.

Skippy

So no more talking about it for 20 plus years
Of freaking out about it,
They may already have a nuke. Either way
I’m shocked no one other then Israel wants to do anything about it.
The Arab countries and Europe should get a little more involved

The attack by Israel has on Iran

If the squawking seagull objects, and we have him recalled to active duty, and air-dropped in Tehran in uniform on a fact-finding mission?

Amateur Historian

Democrats give pallets of cash. Republicans drop bombs (often with Israel as a surrogate).

My mom works Uber in Colorado and she once gave a ride to a Persian lady who hates the Iranian mullahs. She said they were close to getting a nuke, that they are crazy, and that they are a threat to the world. She also said that talks with the Iranians are pointless because you cannot trust them at their word and, to save the world, they needed to be attacked now. From the way my mom described their conversation, muslim death cult does not quite cover how extreme these bastards are.

Operation Rising Lion? I support and endorse the Israeli attack. Go get ’em!

I guess some in the DNC are coming out in support of IRAN and a lot are hoping China will be able to put together a truce

Just proving they’re traitors. And they wonder why/how they lost..?!
