Presidential Vacations and the Media: From Outrage to Pity

| January 5, 2010

Of the many things President Bush was criticized for was the amount of vacation he took as President.

Here is another article from the end of Bush’s Presidency along the same lines.

Contrast these attacks on President Bush with this article from the AP in regards to Obama’s holiday in Hawaii.

Here are some excerpts:

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama returned Monday to the White House he never really escaped.

Obama and his family took an overnight flight from Hawaii, capping an 11-day holiday vacation sure to be remembered more for the botched attempt to blow up a Christmas Day flight than the hours spent on golf courses or at luaus. The failed terror attack refocused the president’s trip from R&R on the island of Oahu to a river of memos from homeland security aides.

Even though it was called a vacation, the trip to Obama’s childhood home was hardly the holiday most people seek. Between golf outings, he phoned his homeland security secretary and counterterrorism adviser for regular updates. Rather than restaurant recommendations, the president was handed thrice-daily updates from the White House Situation Room. And an attack that killed seven U.S. intelligence officers put him on the phone with the CIA director before heading to the island’s North Shore for a party with high school friends.

Its almost like the author of this article is more pissed off at the fact that the President’s vacation was interrupted than the fact that Al Qaida tried to murder hundreds of Americans. A President is never really on vacation. Everyday he still has to get briefs and is followed by literally tons of comm gear that enable to run the country from anywhere. It doesn’t matter if he is in Washington, Camp David, Hawaii, or Siberia. He still runs the country and he is still accountable for what happens, vacation or no vacation.

Well, they’ve all got their heads up the Pied Piper’s ass, no doubt. So, who cares about this foiled ‘incident’ when the poor COWboy had his vacation interrupted, after all.

The attack that won’t be foiled is on the horizon and it will be catastrophic at best. But, hey, we have an A-squared leader,(apologizer/appeaser) who actually thinks DC is Hollywood, don’t we?

Better prepare yourselves, people. It’s going to crash. And I mean that in the nicest, utopian, kumbaya kinda way.

The media is like a girlfriend that finally gives its boyfriend whatfor in regards to getting a job or getting married, etc., only to wake up the next day and, despite that they were right, still ‘feels bad’ about stating the truth and, thus, immediately undoes all the good of the reality check from nary a day before.

Obama never wanted to be President. He wanted the office. And he got it. Now it’s all too damn inconvenient. Can’t take the wife on dates. Can’t enjoy a Hawaiian vacation. Can’t easily go out for hamburgers. Poor baby.

defendUSA – as always – right on target. What a bloody mess we are in and, I fear, the real blood is yet to come. I mean with all they found in that apartment in Houston a few days ago and NO ONE is being arrested? Yeah, so many examples who can even keep up with them.

Wish I had the MONEY for a vacation. Oh, sorry….guess I’m the ONLY one this economy is affecting. Didn’t mean to take it out on all of you.

It’s a fact of human nature that we all need a break sometimes. Science shows human performance suffers without rest and recharge. You would prefer perhaps that he works himself to exhaustion? What kind of decision making could we expect then? He has to pace himself to last at least four years….

If the leftist hadn’t made every day of W’s Presidency an issue, I’d doubt O would catch as much greif.

Then again, O take 72 hours to wipe his ass after a shit, so maybe if he’d do anything in what seemed to be a timely manner people wouldn’t have anything to roll their eyes over.

Yeah…O better pace himself.

Who bitched about the time it took W to respond to 9/11?

Joe

If I’m not mistaken, Bush took more time off than any president in history…..
