President Trump set to shut down the Department of Education
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Donald Trump talked about eliminating the Department of Education. Trump argued that many of its functions should be done by the states. He further argued that the Department of Education should not be pushing for indoctrinating American students with topics inconsistent with the desires of their parents. However, action from Congress would be needed if Trump’s desire in this area is to be completely met.
From the New York Post:
President Trump may use his executive powers to gut the Department of Education and then push for legislation to abolish it as part of his administration’s efforts to shrink the size of government, according to a report.
Trump administration officials are reportedly in talks about using an executive order to shut down nearly all of the agency’s functions, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
Under the potential executive order, certain functions written explicitly into statute would remain at the Department of Education while some programs would be moved to other agencies, according to the outlet.
The order would also call on congressional lawmakers to pass legislation that would formally dismantle the department, as an act of Congress would be required to completely eliminate it.
The Education Department is among the federal agencies that Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk is eyeing major cuts for, according to the Wall Street Journal.
“The president plans to fulfill the campaign promise by reevaluating the future of the Department of Education,” a White House official told The Post when asked about the report.
On the campaign trail, Trump regularly took issue with the Department of Education and pledged to have it shuttered, if elected.
At a September rally in Wisconsin, Trump told the crowd he is “dying” to get back into office to “eliminate the federal Department of Education.”
“We will drain the government education swamp and stop the abuse of your taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America’s youth with all sorts of things that you don’t want to have our youth hearing,” he said.
In December, Trump told Time magazine that he planned for at least a “virtual closure” of the agency.

It’s odd to hear all of those on the left screeching about losing their rights under President Trump, when he is actually returning them. Get education back to the hands of locals, return teaching government, civics, cursive, how to write a damn check, greet someone, answer a damn phone, etc. etc. etc.
I write about two checks a year. Not sure that is an important life skill anymore.
I write about a half dozen checks a month.
Auto transfers don’t really help you pay attention to your expenses. At least for me. I’ve tried it both ways.
Heck, yeah, I write checks like it’s 1974!
Knowing how to balance a checking account is an important thing to know. Also the last check I wrote was in error because I filled out the numbered portion correctly but failed to fill out the written portion correctly as to the amount. Not the first time I made that error.
Even if you don’t write checks to pay bills (I do), learning how to make and balance a budget is important in life.
For me It’s all digital now. I use a dedicated IPAD for the purposes of security monitoring and banking. It tracks everything and all of my purchases. Everything that can go on a credit card goes on the cards and I collect well over a $1000 in cash back points every year. The only time I use a check is for a large purchase that can’t go on a card for some reason. I only use cash for guns, ammo, liquor and lottery tickets.
As a retired programmer, I don’t trust any of that stuff.
I type out my checks on a Galaxy Smith Corona mechanical typewriter and I use a Paymaster 8500 series mechanical check writer.to set the payment amount using slide levers and then insert the check and pull the handle down and you have a nice printed out check with the little punch stippling on the backside of the check. 30+ Christmas.Chanukah cards went out with the envelope addresses done in cursive hand writing. And Negative,, I don’t use a feather quill pen like someone on this site asked me a number of years ago.
Isn’t that a sign that you(we’re) getting older…
We’re intelligenter.
Democrats at this very hour…
Billions of dollars have been spent by the Dept. of Ed. over the 45-ish years since it has been created. Since then, among students literacy rates are down, mathematical ability is down, and ability to write and speak coherently is down. Any rational person would conclude it should be at the very least downsized to a core mission if not abolished as a complete waste.
“ ability to write and speak coherently is down” is never more evident that stepping up to a counter at a fast food restaurant with a teen at the cash register. They just look at you. I remember growing up in the 70-80s, the worker would say “hello”, “next please”, “may I take your order”, – something, to let you know that they were ready.
At college umpteen years ago (it’s since spread) talking like a grown up was not only “square” but confused ’em:
“Two pancakes, please” (holding up two fingers).
“Whua, you want how many?!”
And after telling them 3x, it still comes out wrong.
Sadly.
Some of the young folk can’t count that high.
We created a Department of Education and its area of concern got worse.
You don’t suppose there is any relationship between this:
And this? Because while I may not have stayed in Holliday Inn Express last night, I know me some maths, and they seem to be closely correlated. But if the guys need tampons they are in every stall of the men’s room.
Ah, posted the wrong first chart. Here is the correct one.

Department of Socialist Indoctrination created by a Socialist Moonbat.
As a guy who has to deal with what is out there for employees, the level of education these guys have is appalling. They cannot write a decent story to justify the labor they have on work performed. No capitalization, no punctuation it is al just a big run on sentence that makes no sense. Lets not get into the spelling mistakes. I talk to them and tell them that if they were paying $145.00 an hour to get work done on their equipment, and the guy doing the work appeared to be a 3rd grade dropout according to his dictation, how would they feel about the quality of that work?
I get the stupid stare.
They probably think dictation has something to do with sex ed..
Or Hitler and Mussolini.
No no no, they’re what you get when you combine a potato and a penis.
We went from the top 5 in education to the top 5 of indoctrination. You won’t undo 40+ years of that overnight.
My wife works in food service at an elementary school. One of her workers asked a kindergarten teacher what the Boston Tea Party was all about.. the TEACHER gave a blank stare, and said ” I have no idea”… my wife then pro.ptly explained the whole thing… can’t expect much feom.the kids when the teachers are clueless..
BTDT…Sad, ain’t it. Over the past 40+ years I’ve conducted “Living History Programs” that would teach school kids more in a 50 minute presentation than they would learn in a year or more. The “teachers” would learn more too. Not sure when “they” quit teaching history but when my daughter was attending in the 80s & 90s what they did teach was slim and very skewed. Daughter has been a teacher in a major metro Florida County Public School system for nearly 20 years now and the subject is barely touched. The system also has more admin types than teachers The Head Dood makes nearly twice what POTUS makes and his office is palatial. His desk was over 10K$ and there’s an 80 inch plasma TeeVee hanging on the wall. Tip of the iceberg on waste. We won’t even talk about the sorry ass “parents”. Another whole story there.
KOB you put it in nutshell. My wife is a retired reading teacher and she has told me pretty much everything you just stated.
Like these parents (and they’re the motivated ones):

Worst students at college who still graduate… and they teach our children.
Those of us who completed our K-12 educations before 1980 joke about being successful in spite of our public school educations. Did anyone imagine that 45 years later we would be promoted what we had over what currently passes for education?
Honestly, my father did. I remember him predicting the utter collapse of educational standards and accomplishments, something I was too young to really understand. Dad, the older I get, the more I miss your wisdom.
Removing any ability of the dea to provide funds to a state, country city educational institution will go a long way. They had been holding money over the heads of various states as the incentive to follow their directions. Take the money away and there is really no reason for the states and counties school districts to pay them any attention.
While he is at it, can he do something about Randi Weingarten? She is as useful as the Corporate Ethics enforcer at All Points Logistics.
Sounds like someone who couldn’t even sell a bottle of T-bird to Psul.
And the Roger Gooddell. I know he’s not under the executive branch, but he’s gotta go.
Sorry, there are limits to what power even the president has. Professional football will continue to suck and go down in flames until Dwayne Johnson rises from the ashes.
Of course the liberals are going to go triple batshit crazy over this because it cancels out a BUNCH of control over other people’s lives via indoctrination.
It would appear Politico was a fully funded subsidiary of the DNC via USAID. I’m shocked, shocked I say!

Nice Find! Doubt it will hit the MSM. Politico will get the 1984 Treatment and never have existed. Anyone who speaks of it on the left will be a traitor and enemy of the people.
When I was a child some friends and me built a plywood fort over top of a creek that was sort of boggy. Later we decided to move it and when we took the floor up underneath there was a very large crawfish, a water snake and a huge bullfrog underneath that were all nesting there. To us it looked like the three of them were squared off to fight.
I don’t know why that childhood memory resurfaced when I read that article but it sure did.
It will hit the MSM now, because Leavitt discussed it at today’s press briefing..
But wait, there’s more!

Ah, creating a “narrative” (as Democrats love to do) otherwise, in more “judgmental” times, known as lying.

The Empire Strikes Back!
Darth Pocan has been dispatched to deal with this threat.

I’m not shocked. Practically every D-rat politician is corrupt. Within a few years in DC, they have figured out how to illegally or unethically acquire wealth.
And apparently USAID has been the channel for many of them to get rich, and “do favors”, why else would they be going so batshit over the shutdown?
They have possibly been using it as a mechanism to get kickbacks to their campaigns along with foreign aid to the likes of Ukraine.
Please, God, make it true!
Parents are and have always been the best ones to educate their children or determine who should.
(I could go on for pages!)
I hear ya GB. The older I get the more I rely my parents
teachings and the example they set for me.
When faced with tough decisions I always ask myself what
mom or dad would do.
It’s amazing just how much smarter my dad is now that I’ve aged. I hear him every day. Yeah, sometimes I hear “dumbass”. Not as often as I used to.
“You’ll understand when you’re older” Mom and Dad said and, damn, if they weren’t right!
That Door of DEI needs a stiff frame charge
Carter’s payoff to the teacher’s union who supported him in ’76…and it’s been an epic disaster since. This monstrosity needs to be dismantled. Hopefully, Orangeman has extra protection, because this is gonna really piss off the swamp.
Damn straight Big Don! And make sure you investigate that corrupt Weingarten bitch, she’s as dirty as the day is long.
