Colorado Springs Police respond to shooting early Sunday morning

By: Dani Whitaker
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — On Sunday, July 14 at around 4 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on the 300 block of W. Bijou Street.

The officers’ initial investigation found that a male suspect had broken into several businesses.

Security at one of the locations tried to stop him, but the suspect was armed with a hammer.

The suspect attacked and injured the security guard with the hammer before being confronted by another security guard.

The armed suspect continued to advance towards the second security guard when the guard fired his gun, striking the suspect.

Thanks again, Gun Bunny.

If you know how to shoot, and are quite ready to shoot, the chances are that you won’t have to shoot.

A hammer to a gun fight.
Not sure if we’ve already seen one (or more) of that, but I’ll annotate it for later cross referencing for the 3 ring, 3″ , loose leaf binder encyclopedia coffee table edition of T2NB2AGF.

Have to wonder…..what kind of hammer was it? Ball peen? Claw hammer? Roofing? Old? New? Estwing? WalMart? (did Craftsman make hammers?)

And yes, the perp deserved to get hammered the way he did.

It shorely weren’t a Silver Hammer, Tox…article didn’t say if the WRT’s name was “Maxwell”. I would recommend some range time for the Security Guards.

We were told that when DeKalb Co/Decatur removed all of them RAAAAYYYCISSS Statues that crime would go away and everything would be unicorn farts producing cotton candy. That AO is ground zero of Stacey A’s stomping grounds. The DA is of the catch and release school.

If you have to shoot…shoot something designed by HMS JMB (HBHN)!

My goals in life seem to be having the most guns, tools, and ice chests of anyone I know. Hammers are no different. I bought all sorts of Vaughns when Lowe’s cleared those out years ago and have a number of Estwings and other brands as well. Yes, Craftsman does sell hammers, but while years ago they were made in the US, now most are outsourced to China. One of the things that haunt me to this day is the loss of my Craftsman 30 oz. California Framer. When I left the gutter business I worked for as a 17-year-old, I left my tool belt, along with that hammer, a classic Craftsman yellow tape measure (back when the lifetime warranty applied to those as well–first you could exchange them, then they’d replace the tape, and ultimately, they sold red ones that were no longer replaceable). I kept the Black & Decker UniVolt drill kit I used at the time, but it seems like the old Ni-Cad batteries just weren’t meant to last nearly 30 years.

I’ve been gradually organizing things in my head and around the house. When I get around to the tools, I’ll probably have an entire wall full of every type of hammer, from 4 oz. ball peens to 20 lb. sledges. Given stories like that above, though, I might need to invest in a hammer safe.

The current Craftsman tools are not what I grew up with.

I have a nice collection of hammers and other tools from Dad, my father-in-law, and my own years of doing-it-myownself – there are plenty for the grands to use when they need to.

But they won’t be bringing them to a gunfight, for sure. That’s another collection…

I’m thinking AW1Ed is having fun finding nice toys for us to drool over.

They most certainly are not (Craftsman tools, that is). I’m a relative whippersnapper, but as a mechanic in the late-’90s, Sears was the place to go for quality, American made tools on a budget. I had a few hundred dollars’ worth of debt racked up on the Snap-On, Matco, and Mac trucks, but most of my hand tools were Craftsman.

When my dad passed, I found a couple of vintage (1940s or earlier) C-Man ratchets. Around the same time, I ventured into the Hinesville, GA Sears Hometown store and overheard an older gentleman gushing about the quality their tools. It reminded me that–at least 10 years or more ago–the brand was still viewed through rose-colored glasses. Given the divestiture of Craftsman from Sears to Stanley Black and Decker and the nearly complete offshoring of manufacturing, I don’t know how Craftsman is viewed today. I have some VersaStak and TradeStak modular boxes, but when it comes to hand tools, I’ll stick with my “V” series stuff from the ’70s or so.

About a month or so ago I picked up a couple of roofing hammer heads (rusty at .50 each) and brought them home and cleaned them up. Put a coat of grey primer on them and put new wood handles in them. The best one is an old Plumb brand, and it is stamped USN, so I guess it was once used by the SEABEEs.

I have dug up a bunch of old hammer and axe heads through the years and have put handles into most of them. At one time I had a 5-gallon bucket full of axe heads soaking in used motor oil, I kept the 2 best and gave the rest away when I was cleaning out the garage. I still have an old broad axe head that still needs a handle.

I am blessed to be the current custodian of my father-in-law’s single and double bit axes *and* my great grandfather’s double bit axe with the handle he used.
And I know how to use them.
Had to keep a woodburning stove fed for a while there early marriage days.

Reading the Dekalb article there, it seems the “reporter” is very very woke. Always referring to the lead catcher as they / them.
