Guard kills Georgia inmate at hospital after he overpowered other officer, investigators say

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A Georgia prison guard shot and killed a prisoner she had helped escort to a hospital for treatment after he snatched another guard’s pepper spray and used it to overpower him, authorities said Wednesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said its agents are investigating the late Tuesday shooting at Washington County Regional Hospital in Sandersville, about 60 miles (96 kilometers) east of Macon. The agency typically handles cases involving shootings by Georgia law enforcement officers.

Two corrections officers from Washington State Prison took 31-year-old Jacob Henson to the hospital after he was stabbed by a fellow prisoner during a fight, the GBI said in a news release.

The bureau said its preliminary investigation indicated that Henson began fighting with one of the guards at the hospital, grabbed a cannister of pepper spray from the officer and used it to subdue him. The inmate began advancing toward the second guard, still spraying from the cannister, when she shot and killed him, according to the GBI.

J. Henson got a stabby stab in prison and decided he wasn’t going back, leading to hospital staff mopping up the muppet’s body fluids. Hope he enjoyed those outdoor toys he stole before he spent the rest of his life incarcerated, spicing things up for the CO, then getting lit up himself.

Anyone handling money, especially at ATMs, needs to be situationally aware, lest they lose their pants: Brinks security guard robbed at Irving ATM, pants removed at gunpoint (fox4news.com). I visited my local bank a while back, and they were doing some sort of maintenance or repairs on the ATM across the street. It seemed like they put some sort of risk mitigation into it. Maintenance vehicle blocking one side, security vehicle blocking the other, with the guard out of his truck and pulling overwatch over the technician at the machine.

Mr Henson FAFO’d.
“Well, bye”

Pepper spray to a gunfight? That’s got to be in the coffee table 3 ring binder somewhere. Maybe home boi just wanted to season up the hospital cafe food?

No cash withdrawal for the Little Rock dood. Guard shoulda deposited a little more lead into him tho.

The latest joe (or his handlers) are sure taking lessons from others named joe. Gonna get worse between now and the (s)election…Prepare

“…a much shorter overall package…” That’s what she said. Nothing short about the MSRP of that pup.

Too groggy in the oh-dark-too-damn-early AM pre-caffeine. I should’a caught that pepper spray bit. Duly noted and annotated into the T2NB2AGF.

I wonder—and maybe this too much TV—how wounded was the guy? He felt groggy enough to fight. Could he have got a fellow inmate to stab him so he could get out.
Then again, could just be he was scared to go back.

And how does calling 911 block the highway? Someone ran out of space or time before they finished.

CCO

*froggy*, not groggy

On the positive side there is an open bunk in the prison.

Um…why was a female corrections officer escorting a male prisoner?

Seems to me that’s asking for trouble. The question in my mind is: would the prisoner have even tried to overpower the first guard had the second one been male as well? The prisoner was obviously very physically capable, if he dispatched the first officer so handily. Seems to me they should have taken more precautions.

On the plus side, that’s one less anti-social parasite for the law abiding tax payers to feed and house, so I guess it all worked out for the best regardless of the poor planning that led up to it.
