Man, 102, constantly victimized by graffiti, city goes after him
Painting of another kind… A 102-year-old man has lived in his home for 80 years. His fence appears to have become a favorite graffiti location. Every time he paints over the graffiti, it does not remain free of “urban art” for long. People paint new graffiti on his wall, resulting in the city holding him accountable for removing it. Fines over $1,000 await him if he does not remove the graffiti. He is wheelchair bound, so his 70-year-old son has taken up the paint over jobs.
From The Daily Caller:
Earlier in March, Silva was told by the City of Oakland that he needed to paint over the graffiti by March 19 or the city would levy a $1,100 fine, with another potential $1,277 for each failed re-inspection, according to the outlet.
“It was so absurd, it’s like a joke,” Silva’s daughter-in-law Elena said. “If you drive around the city and see the graffiti everywhere, it’s just I don’t know what to say.”
Silva told KTVU that he was a contractor in his earlier days before being confined to a wheelchair and that it was easy to paint over it himself, KTVU reported.
“Just had a roller and a paintbrush and just painted it,” he said, noting that he’ll be 103 in two months and that has “slowed it up a bit.”
Currently, Silva’s 70-year-old son does the painting, but he said, “It’s hard to keep up with it because as soon as we get it painted, it’s gonna be graffiti on it again, and it won’t last.”
Silva Jr. said that the family owns a commercial property that has been broken into three times in the last year and that each time he has called 911, KTVU reported.
“And I’m put on hold every time. So it’s hard to understand where our tax dollars are going. They can’t answer 911, but they can come out and hassle you about a fence?” Silva Jr. said, adding, “I would hate to think that there [are] other hundred-year-old people that are being harassed like this.”

Mr. Maverick. Rock salt. Boom.
Mr. Maverick (or any Shottie of your choice).Double 00 buck. BOOM.BOOM.BOOM.BOOM.BOOM! There…I fixed it for ya!
M79 with flechette rds.
Pin the artist to the wall. Excellent deterrent to future artists.
Never use rock salt. It is still at minimum an ADE charge, and will probably leave survivors whose stories may not match yours. Best to only have ONE version.
“Never use rock salt.”
Unless you deliver it by the 50 lb sack, then I recommend at least 4-5 sacks, preferably from a height of 50 feet or higher. Don’t forget to lead your target!
If you can do an IRA style “shoot & scoot” (but not from the direction of the house), how’s the one who was shot gonna prove that you’re (the homeowner) the one who did it?

I’m wondering if a 5.56 tracer would ignite a spray paint can
Oakland CA, is anyone surprised? IMO what’s happening now in California is what the left wants to inflict upon the entire US of A.
Should they succeed with getting rid of the Electoral College, cities like Oakland, New York, Los Angeles, etc., would strongly influence who the president will be.
But, there is a process that would be needed to make that change in the Constitution. With enough rigged elections, they could get enough people in place at the federal and state level to make it possible to change the Constitution… Like what happened in Venezuela… Changes aimed at removing power from the people and concentrating it in the hands of an elite.
End result? What you say if Democrats get their way throughout the country, like random men punching women in the face across the country with minimal consequences.
Commissar’s paradise.
“But iT’s ThE eNvY oF tHe CoUnTrY!! Hurr Hurr.”
Yah… fuck California.
Hide in waiting for one of the “artists” to show up.
Empty a can of Rust-Oleum in his face.
Be carefull with the Rust-Oleum because if the cops see you with the can, you could be arrested for being a paint can Rustler and don’t be on horseback on an old paint..Happy Easter Beans and all out there on TAH.
I’ll bet there’s a cop named Rusty out there with
a sister named Lin.
Or find a way to “booby trap” the area in a way that does not harm the perpetrators, but shames and embarrasses them… Like what has been done against porch pirates:
Spray can oven cleaner.
I’ll bet I could pull that fence out and replace it with triple-strand concertina. How you like my fence, now?
Trip flares…lots of trip flares.
Then they find a reason to declare that as unauthorized, as contributing to lowering the value of area real estate, encouraging delinquency, etc., then imposing a fine if he does not erect a normal fence.
One of the guys in the comment section in the above link brought up a good point that could be looked into:
Could it be that those fining him know others who are into “urban art”, and are using repeat graffiti infractions to wear this guy down knowing that he’s getting older and slower?
I’m sure if he put up cameras he would be arrested for illegally recording of the criminals without their consent!
This was my first thought when I heard about this story. Who wants his property and is connected to someone?
Easier and safer to punish victims than perpertrators, comrade!
Thank God Oakland is finally cracking down on crime. With 126 mostly unsolved murders last year one might think they are going for low hanging fruit. But this could be the tip of the iceberg. There could be multiple other code violations and maybe even parking tickets. Who knows how deep the rot goes? He could even be the great grand grandpappy of code violations.
Unregistered wheelchair?
What’s the carbon footprint of that wheelchair?
Is it gas powered?
This is our government today.
Protect the diversity enrichment criminals.
Punish the law abiding.
Because that is easy work and helps with the pensions.
“F*ck the citizens, what’s in it for me?”: motto of the modern progressive bureaucrat/politician.
Maybe he could find a way of fining the city for the constant vandalism that the city is allowing.
I know it won’t happen and will cost a fortune to finance, but it would be funny!
If someone were to suggest a fund to pay for a PI to find out who the “urban artists” are, and who they are connected to, I would donate. As TheBesig posted, I smell a scam to get this guy’s property.
Then again, even with incontrovertible proof that politician X were behind it, nothing would happen. Except, maybe, they’d leave the guy alone. Nothing works like a little sunshine disinfectant on the rot.
How about getting the local veteran community to “patrol” this guy’s property? If the “urban artists” are interrupted enough and made to cover over their “art” enough times, perhaps a message would be received. Oh, wait. This is Oakland. Well, we can hope the caliber of veterans in the area is better than the representative we know but I don’t see that one as an anomaly, given the locale.
I like the way you think!
“Caliber”!
Wait, what??
