Caution.

Gun Bunny and Old Tanker came though once again.

It is the function of the Navy to carry the war to the enemy so that it is not fought on U.S. soil.

Actually, that is an M1A1 Carbine. Originals were all made by Inland for airborne forces use.

I was on the boarding and salvage crew and was issued an M-1 Carbine if we had to board a vessel. I asked the Gunners mate when would I have to use it and all he said was that if anyone on board gave you a ration of shit, just shoot him. When standing inport guard duty in a liberty port, I wore white leggings, undress blues and carried an empty M-1 Carbine in front of the forward brow gang plank. When firing the M-1 Carbine, M-1 Garand, BAR and the Thompson sub gun, Marine onboard BLT troops asked what kind of weapons we were shooting and the Veteran Marine Gunny used to tell them. At least they knew what a 1911 .45 was since the carried them back then.

Welp, at least Mr. Swanigan Jr. has played his swan song…and his partner in crime has flown off somewhere, so there is that. The scuff marks on the truck may buff out, but the sucking chest wound?…not so much.

If the Navy wanted to prevent a war on US soil, they shoulda been patrolling the Rio Grande.

Who wouldn’t want to have an M1 Carbine? ARVNs learned how to drop their weapons from the French, huh.

I lucked out and got my M1 Carbine with an Owens stock for $350 or so. Early WWII Inland M1 Carbine with Owens Telescoping Stock | Rock Island Auction. Incidentally, mine is also an Inland with a serial number showing it was made in early 1942.

Unfortunately, the two 30-round mags that were present during the appraisal were forgotten when the collection was picked up, but I ordered some and grabbed a couple of boxes of ammo. I still have to shoot it but want to do a thorough teardown and cleaning first.
