Iranian destroyer to Red Sea. Y’all play nice, now.

| January 2, 2024

Al-Jazeera reports that Iran has dispatched a destroyer, to the Red Sea in response to “heightened tensions” in the area.

“The Alborz destroyer entered the Red Sea … by passing through the Bab al-Mandeb” waterway at the southern tip of the Red Sea, connecting with the Gulf of Aden in the Indian Ocean, the news agency said on Monday.

It added that Iran’s naval fleet has been operating in the area “to secure shipping lanes, repel pirates, among other purposes since 2009”.

In 2021, the Alborz repulsed a pirate attack against two oil tankers in the Gulf of Aden.

And in 2015, it was one of two Iranian warships sent to the strait “to ensure the safety of commercial ships” in what was seen at the time as a sign of tensions with Saudi Arabia.

Al Jazeera

Okay, I will admit, sometimes when I write a column I sometime hope to provoke a smile. But, DAMN! I couldn’t do anything as funny as some of the nonsense in the linked article.

“to secure shipping lanes, repel pirates, among other purposes since 2009”.

Especially since most of the piracy and attacks are from the Houthis, sponsored by Iran.

“Abdollahian criticised the “double standards” of some Western countries, according to a statement from Iran’s foreign ministry, saying the “Israeli regime cannot be allowed … to set the region on fire” with the Gaza war.

” to set the region on fire” with the Gaza war. ” – started by Hamas, Iranian affiliates. Iranian fingerprints all over this mess, and while they are  even taking an active part (the tanker hit in the Indian ocean was hit by an Iranian-launched drone) they claim no  knowledge. Literally millions and billions of dollars or rather reals, of Iranian weaponry involved, Iranian advisers in literally every hostile military in the region, and they “don’t know from nuthin’.” Right.

Send a destroyer to mix it up with combined warships from all the other navies in the Red Sea?  Get some, USN.

In the famous words of St. John McLane  “welcome to the party, pal!”

FAFO why her sister ship the Sahand is an artificial reef courtesy of the USN. Don’t be like your flirty sister.

They’ll scream “HOLY WAR” as they FA, and as soon as they FO, they scream “HOLY SHIT!!!”.

I did not know that John McClane was sainted, thought you had to be dead for that?

Yeah, most of the “region set on fire” is from the guys with the can of accelerant and the matches (Iran)! Even if there are non-Huthi Pirates in the BAB/Red Sea, Iran is just there to ensure they pay their Union dues.

Excellent opportunity for France to further develop the Exocet.
Two or three outta do it.
Then go after every ship that dares leave port.
Then go after the leaders.
Then wait a few days.
Then don’t give a fuck.

SFC D

No no no, it doesn’t work like that. The French just build it, they don’t actually use it. Other than that, your plan is pretty damn awesome.

RGR 4-78

Sort of like the Maginot Line.

Fyrfighter

So Iran is looking to add to their submarine fleet? Or are they environmentalists looking to add another play-toy for the fishies?

Skivvy Stacker

I think they’re so environmentally sensitive, providing these future artificial reefs.

Skivvy Stacker

Well, you got all these highly ejikated kollage kids around the world telling us that Hamas only wants PEACE, and that Israel is made up of baby killing criminals who were occupying Gaza, and want nothing more than genocide of the original inhabitants of Palestine, that you just gotta KNOW it’s true….right? I mean, since the Israeli genocide started, there are now MILLIONS more Palestinians that ever before…so, um……so, that must mean….uuhhh….lemme get back to ya.

Saw a video of some Hamas supporting college students writing “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” in chalk on the sidewalk. The guy recording the Woke Activist asked what river was she referring to. She could not answer. And to think that these individuals can vote and sit on juries.

We should remember the Roman saying Oderint Dum Metuant and blow that fucking destroyer out of the water today….and sink all the other small coastal craft these assholes use daily…let their next Navy consist of rowboats and inflatables…

Stop playing fuck around and start playing find out for Christ’s sake…

^THIS^ And who’s to say that the raghead navy (can we still say that?) isn’t offering this vessel up as a sacrificial lamb to goad the US (or IDF) into blowing this pirate support vessel out of the water, giving them the excuse to escalate this stupidity to a higher level?

Odie

I didn’t hear you say anything, or anybody else for that matter if anybody asks.

This would actually provide an interesting exercise in combined operations. Assume a certain T[ime] O[n] T[arget] were to be established with respect to a certain naval target.

Oh, let’s say for the sake of argument:

one each Alborz destroyer).

Each nation in the exercise would be expected to acquire, identify, track, designate, (select a weapon system, i.e. Tomahawk, Exocet, cruise missiles of various nomenclatures); and each nation would have to lead the target in time and space for a single detonation without any direct coordination or linkage of target acquisition data with another other nation.

When TOT arrived, there would be a grading of efficiency and accuracy during the BDA assessment of the exercise.

Bragging rights to the “on time – on target” countries. Shame and humiliation to the late arrivals/ missed coordinate countries.

France, Germany, Great Britian, the United States, Italy, Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, … how many participants might reasonably be expected?

Iran would, of course, be requested to deploy a second destroyer as a tie breaker in the event of an inconclusive result.

You have to pony up $5 to get into that pool.

I’ve served in a five DD’s and FFG’s and that, sir, is no destroyer. That’s not even a frigate. 1540 tons fully loaded with goats and figs and whatever else they take to sea with them. One well placed 5″ 54 round and that thing is going down for the count.

Well, only according to Milton Bradley, really:

I wonder what the Iranian Navy is paying out to beneficiaries in its SGLI program? Outgoing payments are overdue.

I looked that thing up and it is actually an over 50 year old frigate. Not too impressive. I wonder how long it will be before they do something muzzie stupid and get their asses handed to them?

I recall seeing a couple of similar ships in Somalia, 1993. Sunk in Kismayo harbor.

I certainly hope the Houthis don’t accidentally launch a missile at that Iranian ship.

timactual

It would be tragic if the Houthis mistakenly fired a missile or three at that Iranian ship

timactual

I certainly hope that the Iranian ship doesn’t wander into the path of a “Houthi” missile.
