Gonna leave the Israel situation to the serious folks, only noting in passing that given the Muslim tendency to stage attacks on significant anniversaries, perhaps the Israelis should have been on higher alert on the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur attacks?

Also worth noting that this probably will kill the proposed Saudi Arabia-US-Israel agreements in the works  – Saudi hardliners will never go for an agreement while Israel is attacking Muslims, even in self defense.NBC News

Closer to home – Los Angeles has hired several DACA folks (“Dreamers”) who, while allowed to be armed at work, are not allowed to have guns or ammo off duty. LA is worried about their safety.  Funny how they don’t seem to think  unarmed citizens are at risk from criminals, huh.  Makes you wonder whether actually attacking crime and criminals is a better idea than disarming folks? Also in California, a guy whose mother’s house was occupied by squatters (who typically wave a bogus lease to force cops to back off) had an interesting tactic. He had his mother do a lease to him, waited till the squatters left, moved in – and stayed. Squatters returned to an occupied dwelling and when he didn’t leave, the original squatters had to go elsewhere. What would that be, counter-squatting? Now, in a free state like Texas, I’ll bet he could have had 1911 reasons for them to leave, but this is CA. The article describes this counter-squatting as ‘dangerous’ – I suspect being downwind of said 1911 would be more so.  Moneywise

Moving east to North Carolina, a sexually abused  teenager was awarded $69,000 from her abuser by a judge, only to learn that the police had seized all the abuser’s assets under civil asset forfeiture and she will get nothing.

Records show when MHPD investigated the sex abuse case in July 2019, they found suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and cash inside the suspect’s home. The victim’s family and their attorney said, at the time, an officer assured them the money would be available to one day pursue in a civil suit and in the years after, continued telling them the money remained held in property….

Unbeknownst to them, investigators seized the cash and partnered with a federal agency to apply for asset forfeiture, citing probable cause of illicit drug activity. MHPD investigators never charged the suspect with any drug crimes, only sex offenses, but that didn’t prevent the department from eventually collecting more than $45,000 of the seized money in 2020 through what’s called the Equitable Sharing Program, according to records. The federal government received the rest of the money. reason.com

Funny how the only time the government moves fast is when it is taking…

Some Republicans floated an idea to make Donald Trump Speaker of the House. Not going to happen, per Rep. Ken Buck, D-CO, who voted to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. AOL Why anyone would seriously propose the biggest target of Democratic ire in decades is beyond me…I did find it notable to discover that the Speaker does not have to be a sitting Congresscritter. Who knew?  MSN

Last, and certainly least, electric truck fans are swooning that a Tesla pickup was able to haul a trailer with a ‘giant’ Space Raptor rocket engine. Oh wait – turns out that motor weighs about 3,500 pounds. Notebookcheck  So the Tesla was towing about 70% of the minimum tow capacity of an F150. Yawn…

I think Trump did reasonably well as President. I don’t think he has a fix for many of the problems the world is facing. He can talk all he wants about ending the Ukraine-Russia war in 24 hours, but that’s just talk. He left us with the same problems we had when he took office, including our jacked up Congress.

Anonymous

Better than the current guy.

ANCRN

No argument with that. Iam simply not a diehard Trump supporter, and think he’s not the superman people make him out to be.

5JC

He got screwed out of his fourth year because of the pandemic. The course the stock market was on the DOW would have been about 45k today, Yet still have low inflation. Gas would probably be about a dollar a gallon. Not to mention we would have peace in the Middle East, no war in the Ukraine, and no FJB.

Trump did a lot of things poorly, But he did the economy, energy policy and statecraft really well, better than any president so far in this century.

ANCRN

I think the stock market not being higher does belong to Trump. He presided over the shutdowns and restrictions that caused much of the market losses. I agree that internationaly and donesticaly, things were quieter under Trump, and he did make some progress in the middle east, but the same problems were simmering and have now boiled over. Not is fault, but I don’t see him fixing them.

5JC

Trump was under enormous pressure to shut down the economy. They basically were accusing him of genocide if he didn’t do it. All the experts agreed that it had to be done.

ANCRN

If I remember rightly, years ago this was written on my job description. I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL MY SQUAD DOES, AND ALL MY SQUAD FAILS TO DO. If that applies to an SSG in the US Army, it applies to the CINC as well.

5JC

In Trump’s case He is often held accountable for things he didn’t do.

ANCRN

Yeah, no argument with that.

Trump is definitely a mixed bag.

But on net, I like his results better than any since Reagan. He certainly fucked the Left with SCOTUS picks. For that alone I would vote for him again.

If he wasn’t damaging the Left, they would not be screaming bloody murder.

But yeah, he has baggage like anyone else in that job.

As the American philosopher and poet, Waylon Jennings once said:

“I’ve always been crazy, and the trouble that it’s put me through
Been busted for things that I did, and I didn’t do.”

Odie

The problem Trump had was he was being undermined by people in his own party.

He would have done much better if he didn’t have folks in Congress, the Senate and even his military doing all they could to screw him.

Yes, I support Trump, but I don’t see anybody on the Republican side strong enough to beat him presently.

tom reynolds

He was constantly stabbed in the back by the traitors in both parties and the military. That dress wearing POS Milley should have been dragged to the nearest wall and shot. Instead he retires and cashes in on his treason to America.

Av8or33

Best president in my lifetime. He actually lived up to most of his promises and tried to address the ones he couldn’t. He may not be perfect but I believe he’s the only politician out there willing to call out the corruption and try to restore America to its former self, that’s why they hate him. He’s dangerous to the gravy train.

2banana

That’s the entire point.

You never back down from evil.

I am so on board that train that I don’t ever want to get off. The circus that would ensue, would ensure that they would do nothing the rest of the time the Congress is in office.

And eff Ken Buck. He voted to support the ultra right as he likes to call them and get rid of the last Speaker. Now you get what you get.

I’m all for getting rid of the police. Maybe keep the state troopers to patrol the interstates, a few deputies to serve warrants, maybe some city guards to protect City property. Get rid of 911 service for the police. They shouldn’t have to solve everybody’s problems.

Let the rest of it sort its way out naturally. If the citizens of the most heavily armed nation on Earth can’t get along I’m sure they’ll figure something out.

I have been rethinking the prison thing too. I say let them go and see what happens.

An armed society is a polite society.

My honest opinion is that police are necessary, but that they should be a last resort…of sorts. Also, rather than municipal police departments with appointed Chiefs and Superintendents, there should be duly elected Sheriffs who are held accountable by the People.

Crime is going to happen, and sad to say, the days of Officer Friendly intervening in an active incident are mostly behind us. We need cops like those in Nashville who took on the active school shooter. We don’t need “cops” like the cowards in Uvalde and Parkland, who stood by as kids were killed. Make it legal for law-abiding teachers and parents to carry on school grounds, and I guarantee that future school shootings will be stopped quickly. Cops are largely just people looking to do (and keep) their jobs. As such, they’ll stand by in the absence of orders, try to avoid risking their lives when they can, and mostly do what most uninvested participants will do. Teachers tend to be protective of “their” kids, and parents are definitely going to do what they can for their kids. In Uvalde’s case, there were reports of officers being restrained from entering, and of parents being refused access to the area.

911 is a valuable service, when it works, but there are many variations of “when you need help now, the cops are only five minutes away”.

11B-Mailclerk

When we, as a society, resume valuing and rewarding Virtue, while shaming and punishing Vice, we shall be much happier with our police, for they will be drawn from and critiqued by better men.

Liberal bureaucrats love Uvalde-quality dolts who couldn’t get a job anywhere else– seriously, they feel that’s more cost-effective and, well, loyal to them.

Israel is no longer interested in the peace deal, Even if Saudi Arabia wants it. They’ve completely embargoed the Gaza strip. They have cut off power, water, fuel, food, everything. The death toll will be very high.

Electric motors aren’t really great for providing both torque and horsepower. They normally do one or the other really well. Current designs of ICE vehicles such as trucks are much better at this.

Big Brutus, the world’s largest shovel was of course electric powered. It can pick up three train cars of coal or about 15 of those rocket motors as well as 15 – F150s AND the trailers hauling them…. per scoop. But it only had a top speed of .22MPH.

Most of the very large, very heavy earth-moving equipment is electric powered due to the efficiency, low maintenance costs and ease of use.

True, if you want starting torque go for a series wound.
Once you get that trolly moving the “horses” job is to maintain it.

You will note that the policeman had a rifle in his home.

Israel only allows its citizens to have a pistol and 50 (now100) rounds of ammunition.

A pistol is better than nothing, but you want a rifle during a terrorist invasion

They forgot European-style gun conttol’s purpose (Hamas didn’t).
