Jewelry store employee opens fire on smash-and-grab robbers in Manhattan Beach

BY KCAL-NEWS STAFF
Authorities are searching for a group of suspects who targeted a Manhattan Beach jewelry store in a smash-and-grab robbery before an employee opened fire on them.

The scene unfolded at around 12:40 p.m., when El Segundo police were dispatched to Prestige Jewelers, located in the 3000 block of N. Sepulveda Boulevard after learning of the attempted robbery, according to a statement from Manhattan Beach Police Department.

“Five suspects, who were described as wearing hooded sweatshirts, used hammers to smash the jewelry showcases,” said the statement. “An employee of the store responded by using a firearm to shoot towards the suspects.”

After the employee opened fire, police say that the suspects were seen fleeing southbound on Sepulveda Blvd. in vehicles that were waiting outside of the store.

Give a little credit, they weren’t attempting to rob a Dollar General.

I hope the “unknown male” stays unknown.
I’d say more range time needed (leg & hand), but, where the unknown male hit may be little enough so that the po-po won’t be looking for him too hard.

One has a gimpy leg and the other has a weak pimp hand.

I agree on the range time

Good thing the jewelry store dood didn’t hit any of those income redistribution specialists. He’d be persecuted for defending his property. One can get a lot of bread for a showcase full of jewelry. We’ve had “hammer” in the TNTB2AGF list before.

Chiraq just needs a good carpet bombing, ‘specially the South Side.

If you gonna have some paper for protection, better make it a paper cartridge in a .58 caliber Springfield…or a .54 Caliber Sharps.

The Georgia Bull Dawgs is gonna be snacking on some gator right soon.

Nice real out and touch wanna be Mauser you gots there Mister. Shore could use one of them for the Over Watch Position covering that North Wall.

Went to gunbroker dot com, prices for a CZ550 are all over the map, from $560 for an Ultimate Hunting in 300 Win Mag, to $4250 for a Custom in 416 Rigby (where’s Elenore?).
There was one in 30-06 for $900.
There were two in 308 Win for $900 & $1400.
Sooooo, lots of good choices out there.

Went there me ownself…left slobber on the ‘putor screen…and my cc in my wallet. Drats!

I’m not much into hunting, but I’m surrounded by hunting guns. I had to sit in on the regional used gun call earlier, and it looks like some Steyr Scout rifles are getting disbursed to stores. If we get one, I’m gonna be tempted, regardless of caliber. Otherwise, we sell the Ruger American series. Their Ranch rifles (not to be confused with the Mini-14 Ranch Rifle) seem to be utilitarian to an extreme. Roughly $550 with a threaded barrel, and in many calibers from the classics (.30-06/.308) to vastly different 5.56 and .223 (they really have both calibers, as opposed to just 5.56 with .223 interchangeability) to modern subsonic rounds like .350 Legend and .300 AAC Blackout.

I love my iron-sighted surplus guns, and my optics-equipped AR. I also plan to get a Ruger SFAR with (most likely) a LPVO in the near future. But a solid, compact, and light bolt gun is on the radar too.

Haven’t hunted in decades meself, tho I could harvest rabbit, squirrel, quail, deer, hog, or bear from the back porch. Saving them for “the fall”. COP Timber Ranch is surrounded by 10K+ acres of conservation land that is leased for hunting and the critters hang out on my 15 ac tract till they hear the hunters’ 4 wheelers fire up after a fruitless morning of hunters sitting in murder stands and not seeing nothing move. Heh heh.

I do see a need for a nice, old school bolt action with a knock down caliber, scoped. Right now that slot on the TO&E is covered by a .58 Enfield that can ping a pan @ 300 yards. Strictly shoot and scoot on a high value target of opportunity. Overall defensive plan is to let the bad guys get into the kill sack, without revealing the defensive positions, and then bring the dam dam down.

I couldn’t work in a gun store. I’d spend my whole paycheck on toys every week. “Lead us not into temptation…”

Manhattan Beach? Ballsy little bastards. Granted that’s not on the beach per se but there aren’t any freeways or other quick getaways nearby.
