For fans of socialized English medicine, this may be an eye-opener:

Rod Stewart, singer of “Maggie Mae” and “Tonight’s the Night” (fond memories of a red-headed lady sergeant belting that one out at the NCO club at DLI!) has been trying to do something worthwhile for folks needing pricey scans at UK hospitals.

In February, the singer-songwriter appeared at a mobile MRI scanning unit outside his local hospital Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex after paying for a day of scans.

However, he has now revealed he has been trying to do a similar thing elsewhere around the country but has been left frustrated with nobody else accepting his offer.

“It’s like banging your head against a brick wall. I can’t get any response.

“People are crying out for MRIs, I’m willing to pay for them, 30 or 40 in a few hours, and I can’t get anybody to do it for me.”

Stephanie Lawton, chief operating officer at PAHT, said in February: “It has been fantastic to work with Sir Rod and we are grateful for his donation and support.

“We have been able to scan between 20-25 additional patients today, which will help to reduce our waiting list by 10 per cent, and move those patients on to the next stage of their diagnosis and treatment.

Kudos to Mr. Stewart – no publicity, no album forthcoming – he’s just trying to help.  And hospitals won’t respond!  Also note – 20 or so scans was only 10% of the backlog at one hospital. Think how many hospitals with MRI machines there are in the UK…  and tell me again how our system should be like theirs.

Note – the picture above is NOT Sir Rod…bonus points for anyone who can name who it is and where the shot comes from.

Remember the folks in Germany who glue themselves to streets as part of their eco-protests? Seems the normally-polite Germans aren’t taking so kindly to it.

Berlin’s police department has faced accusations of using disproportionate violence after a video over the weekend showed officers deliberately twisting an activist’s arm as they pulled him from the street.

The footage showed that activist screaming in pain. Beforehand, an officer had warned him that he would feel pain “for days” if he did not get off the road immediately.

Letzte Generation’s tactics, which include gluing themselves to streets and attacking famous works of art, have caused a divide in Germany’s environmental movement.

The Green party recently accused it of “elitism” for targeting people who have to drive to work because they cannot afford to live in the city centre.

The Telegraph via Yahoo again

Up to 800 eco-hippies descended on Berlin’s streets and blocked up to 40 streets. Bystanders were seen dragging protesters from the street and in at least one case, a driver not only rolled over a protester’s foot but got out of his car and berated the protester.  Note on the pic above – wouldn’t a good quick yank free the hand more quickly, and be more educational?

I was thinking David Cassidy of the Partridge Family.

In the last five months doctors have gone on strike in the UK, Germany and France. Nurses and EMT’s have gone on strike in the UK, Canada, Germany and Australia all in the public sector. It’s been about pay, working conditions and long hours. More strikes are scheduled in the UK. They are modeled after the German strikes of 2021.

These are the countries that are supposed to be models of socialized medicine. Waiting six months for an appointment, going to the doctor and finding out he is on strike sounds less than ideal.

MustangCPT

No sympathy. They voted for it, fuck ‘em.

5JC

I’m not sympathetic either. Just hoping people are paying attention to this cautionary tale.

FuzeVT

Perhaps if there were several disembodied hands left to rot where they were glued to the road (following removal of the rest of the protesting body), this problem would fix itself in just a few days.

Good luck getting anybody to lend a hand…

Had a doctor at a Med Center I called on back yonder make the comment…”We don’t want anybody to die, but we don’t mind if they get real sick. Treating illnesses makes money, curing illnesses doesn’t.”

Your right to protest and block streets ends when my right to free passage on public toads begins. Stank azz hippies gonna stank azz.

Female commander gone wild. Had to happen sooner or later. Hopefully those young men can overcome their trauma.

If she is relieved she will be the 2nd consecutive 5th SFAB CDR relieved and the 2nd female brigade commander relieved in the last 7 months.

She’s got the “crazy eyes” thing going in that first picture.

Probably sounds odd, but he looks like Peter Cook to me.

The po-po should give the Eco-Gluers a warning to move. Once.
After that, the po-po should look the other way and direct traffic over the location of the bodies of the EcoGluers.

(Po-po) “I gave you fair warning to move. Don’t like to get run over, broken body parts, hospitalized, morgue, THEN GET UP AND MOVE!”
A little pain always accentuates the verbal.

Why don’t they ever glue their junk to the ground? This could solve multiple problems.

I remember an old saying, something along the lines of, “Stupid should hurt.”

Berliner

Got plenty of respect for the Berlin Polizie.

1SG did this thing monthly with new arrivals to get people out of the barracks and learn how to navigate their way around the city, calling it an Escape and Evasion Berlin Newbie course. We were dropped off in the Grünewald (7,400 acre forest in Berlin’s far west side spanning from the British to the American sector) which was also our training area.

I walked to the nearest road, saw a Polezi car coming and waved them down and asked, in my beginner German, Wo ist der bahnhof? They happily gave me a ride to the nearest U-Bahn train station. Followed map at station to travel to U-Bahn Hof Oskar-Helene-Heim across from the Brigade HQ where I caught a double-decker bus back to McNair Barracks. I was the first one back to the barracks.

(Back during Occupation, all military in uniform road the bus and the subway for free)

Berliner

Forgot to add, the former Berlin Brigade HQ is now the U.S. Embassy Consular Services Department. It originally was one of 7 Luftwaffe district headquarters coordinating air defense from Frankfurt to Berlin. Russian troops arriving early May 1945 found the building shrouded in camouflage netting and abandoned. US troops arrived early July and on 4 July, took control of the American sector and on 7 July, occupied the building.

Slow Joe

That picture looks like that guy that made that movie, Laberinth?, with that girl that used to be superhott in very old movies, Jennifer Connelly.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Yup. She used to be hot af and got some really good roles
‘ Phenomena ‘ was my favourite of hers. It also featured Donald Pleasence.
‘ Requiem For a Dream ‘ is another one. The best anti-drug film ever IMHO.
Plus….you get to see Jennifer’s goodies!

Jason

Paul Hogan from the movie Almost an Angel

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Crocodile Dundee too
