Kids and Army CSM shot, killed
Looks like another tale of an idiot who just couldn’t accept that ‘dude, when she’s gone, she’s gone’ and took it out on innocents. One of the victims was Army Command Sergeant Major Carlos Evans. The suspect, Charles Slacks Jr., was an Army veteran and civilian worker at the base and the ex-husband of Army Sgt. Maj. Aletha Holliday, chief culinary manager at Shaw. Police say he went into Holliday’s home late Tuesday night, shot Evans and proceeded to murder his own children and his stepdaughter.

Police say Slacks, who co-owned the home with Holliday, entered with a key. He had been handed divorce papers Feb. 21, and the process was finalized March 2, according to local reporting from WIS-10.
Slacks went into the backyard of the home, where he encountered Holliday and Evans, Sumter Police Chief Russell Roark told reporters Wednesday. Slacks shot Evans, who succumbed to his wounds after being taken to a nearby hospital. Holliday tried to stop Slacks and then ran to look for a phone to call the police.
Evans and Holliday were not romantically involved, according to police.
I know all the heartfelt pleas to call suicide hot lines for help… me, I’m going out on a limb and probably will get and deserve excoriation for it: Just kill yourself. I’m tired of all of these people killing a bunch of folks and then killing themselves. Don’t care if it’s sudden remorse, wanting to avoid consequences, whatever. The process seems to be to fix on a target, grab weapon(s), go kill several people, then kill yourself.
Let’s just cut through the BS: If you are suicidal, get help. If you feel the urge to kill various other people and then off yourself, just cut to the chase – don’t call anyone, just do it. Leave a note so your next of kin can get closure. Feel like a murderous POS and that the world is better off without you? Count on my vote. But please, please quit murdering innocents.

There are evil people out there.I have some liberal friends who will tell me about mental health and all, and they may be right, but if you harm kids, if you murder children, you are on the evil scale pretty damn close to the SS.
I don’t get it, never will. One of the worst nights of my life involved some jackass that went off the rails while we were deployed. He didn’t have the stones to finish himself off when he was done so he will spend the remainder of his miserable life in Leavenworth.
The kids he murdered were so much better than him in every way too. These things are always miserable for everyone involved.
I’ve been criticized before for saying if you are determined to do a murder suicide, the proper way is to do the suicide first. Anyone contemplating taking out another, especially kids, deserves no sympathy.

Politicians always take that route thinking it gets them brownie points with the gullible via the press, they never miss an opportunity to spout their party propaganda!
Well David, no hate from me. That’s the correct order of operations for folks with that level of problems. I’d like them to reach out, but if they can’t, make sure that first round shot’s a winner.

Anyone willing to humble themselves to the fragile, special nature of life itself, moved to admit their illness(es) and ask for help, imho, should get ample.

This was not a suicide. This was murder. This also has nothing to do with mental health. Or gun control. You can bet they both knew the threat this scumbag posed.
It takes a special constellation of narcissism and antisocial personality to kill the kids. We normally say narcissists don’t kill themselves, except for either the extreme self-convinced victim, and/or the most extreme manipulators. We think of narcissism as self-love. It’s more like obsession with controlling self-image and other’s perceptions of their crafted self-image as victim-hero.
Our enlightened society – read as our delusions about modern humans being enlightened – does not have the capacity to deal with these types.
What we’d hear from him –
Because she was the manipulator, lying about him, using him, etc. “I couldn’t live without my kids”, she turned them against me, took them from me – victim-hero.
Because she took away his kids, “I was saving them from her” – narcissistic self-image as victim and hero.
Then, the coward took his own life to avoid the consequences of his actions – ultimate act of narcissistic self-image preservation as victim-hero.
I want to see this child-murdering scumbag’s service records. I’m laying bets-
1)-he was a marginal human being that became a soldier, barely
2)-he was no longer a soldier because he retained his marginal ways
3)-she kept him around as long as she did because it was easier/safer than divorcing him.
4)-somewhere there is record he threatened to do exactly this if she did leave him.
I think it was more about hurting the ex-wife. He was going to take the one thing she really loved since he couldn’t have her anymore.
If you could call a suicide “normal”, then a normal suicide is committed by someone who is in such psychological pain and self doubt or loathing they just want the pain to stop, and don’t have a logical way out of it.
In a case like this, you have a self-involved egomaniac who is firmly convinced that he is “teaching everyone else a lesson” about how much pain they have MADE him feel, and has the illogical belief that after they kill themselves they will still be alive to enjoy the mayhem they’ve caused.
Kicked someone out?
1. Change your locks. This is a simple, life or death item.
2. Call the PD for any unexpected situations that seem even potentially hostile. Don’t exaggerate, and be specific.
3. Repel unwanted visitors with understanding, wisdom, and willingness to use decisive shots.
Except in this case…he shot Evans, and tried to shoot Holiday in the back yard first. Then went inside. Not sure if she tried to lock the door when she ran in to get her phone, and that’s when he unlocked the door with his key. Probably would have just kicked it in anyway.
Nah, if you’re of that bent, shoot yourself first, THEN you do your thing, which is hopefully having to get in the forever box.
