This is not Going to End Well

| August 21, 2009

I have actually been in this exact position but it didn’t turn out this way. Of course that was because I am neither a criminal nor a complete idiot.

This adventure will not have a happy ending for either party.

VILSECK, Germany — A manhunt is under way for a U.S. Special Forces soldier who fled after being convicted of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a German woman.

Sgt. 1st Class Kelly A. Stewart — who was found guilty of multiple charges including kidnapping, forcible sodomy and aggravated sexual assault of a woman in an August 2008 incident — was last seen early Thursday morning by his escort at an on-post hotel.

Stewart is clearly a dangerous and violent person and the first priority for the authorities should be to regain control of this individual asap.

The obvious question remains, how the hell did a guy with a sheet like this manage to escape custody?

Sgt. 1st Class Detrick Hampton, a member of Stewart’s unit, was sharing a room with Stewart at the Kristall Inn, Vilseck’s on-post hotel.

At Thursday’s sentencing hearing, Hampton told the military judge that he last saw Stewart before drifting off to sleep early in the morning. When he awoke around 7:30 a.m., Stewart was missing, along with his Class A uniform, wallet, two cell phones and a rented black Audi Q5 SUV, Hampton said.

It was not clear whether Stewart had a weapon.

So I see two possible reasons how a convicted violent felon managed to abscond so easily.

Either SFC Hampton was complicit in the escape, essentially taking off the cuffs and telling Stewart “It’s all good bro. Don’t forget to hit my FaceBook page from time to time.”

Or…

Hampton is a complete moron who should not be a Sergeant First Class and sure as hell not one wearing a Green Beret.

I vote the latter.
What a boob.

The Army doesn’t have stockades anymore? Or, MP stations? Surely, there was someplace this disgrace could have been “secured”. Rather than giving him a chance to “stay at a Holiday Express”.

As I said in an earlier thread on this: Why only one guard? Why at a hotel? This whole thing doesn’t add up.
