Sheriff: Minnesota man kills sex offender using antler
GRAND MARAIS, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota man was charged Friday with fatally beating an elderly man previously convicted of child sexual assault, who he believed had stalked his young daughter in the past.
Levi Axtell, 27, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Lawrence V. Scully, 77, who was beaten to death Wednesday at his home in Grand Marais.
A criminal complaint filed Friday said Axtell killed Scully with a shovel and a moose antler and then drove to the Cook County Sheriff’s office and confessed, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
At a video hearing on Friday, Axtell’s bail was set at $1 million.

Elderly Philadelphia man running errands turns tables on would-be robbers, emptying his gun
Emma Colton
An elderly Philadelphia man turned the tables on a pair of armed men who allegedly tried to rob him, pulling out his own gun and exchanging fire with the suspects.“At night, I would keep my hand on my pistol in my pocket in case I have to pull it out,” 71-year-old Henry Joel told ABC 6 after defending himself from the alleged robbers last week. “It finally came to reality that I had to use it.”
Joel ran out to pick up an order of Chinese food in North Philadelphia Thursday and was confronted by the suspects at about 11:15 p.m., ABC 6 reported.
Police say Joel was walking in the 2400 block of North 10th Street when two men came out of a breezeway.
The victim immediately pulled out his revolver and exchanged gunfire. He emptied his firearm during the incident, according to police.
“They raised a gun to begin shooting. I raised mine, and we just started shooting,” Joel told ABC 6 from his hospital room. “I don’t know if I hit one of them, but I’m pretty sure I hurt them because they were in the area I was at, basically, and I got shot in the bottom part of the leg, which broke my bone.”

No charges will be filed against Shawano officer in fatal police shooting
SHAWANO, Wis. (WBAY) – No criminal charges will be filed against a Shawano police officer who shot and killed an armed suspect in November, officials said Friday.
After completing a review of the November 19 shooting, the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office said the officer’s decision to use deadly force was justified and there will be no criminal charges against the officer in the shooting death of Lucas L. Christenson.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, in his review of this case, District Attorney Eric Sparr indicated Christenson’s actions, “created a situation where officers effectively had no choice but to shoot him.”
Sparr’s review further indicated the suspect, “was armed with a deadly weapon, had fired it once, and made implicit and explicit threats that he would shoot others with the shotgun.” Based on these facts, the officer was forced to act at that moment’s notice to neutralize a deadly threat, the sheriff’s office said.

That Remington 700 SPS looks to be a fine piece of shooting iron. And at a reasonable price, too.
Time will tell if it lives up to its hype.
Flash in the pan.
Now the XM-8 with the 6.8SPC on the other hand….
I forget if you need an adapter for your moose antler to go in the ready rack next to the M4.
The lack of shovel and antler control laws strikes again. When will America wake up?

Cake, Irish Coffee, and a “Taking out the Trash” Medal would be just as fitting for Mr. Axtell. Plus a “go forth and sin some more” speech. I’ll gift him with a brand new Ames and some white tail antlers. (No mooses down here).
Punks might not of left a blood trail, but checking for a brown trail might give some results. Range time, Henry, range time.
Some DAs are looking at the evidence and using reason instead of emotion to come to the right decision.

If the old guy is indeed guilty of stalking Dad’s little girl, then I have no problem with the results. However, at this time in the article there is no indication of actual guilt of having committed the act(s).
I swung a shovel quite a bit and never hit a pedo. Maybe a moose antler proximity enhances hit probability?
“Ummmm,
Fkit.
Alexa? Order me a moose antler…
with rush shipping!”
When you ride over to the house of the guy molesting your daughter and you shoot him a few times that is one thing; but when you beat him to half to death with a shovel and then stab him with a moose antler you are sending a message. What that message is exactly I’m not sure, but definitely a message.
Maybe something like ” do NOT f*** around with little kids”?
Mr Axtell should have followed The Four Esses
Suppress (yep! shovel & moose antler – G2G)
Shoot (shovel & antler substitute – again, G2G)
Shovel (a FAIL at this station, too bad)
Shut Up (again, a FAIL at this station, too bad, why do people feel the compulsion to confess?)
