America is too dangerous. Give up your guns!

| January 21, 2023

Read the news, watch broadcast media, and the message is omnipresent: THE SKY IS FALLING! LEAVE YOUR HOME AND YOU WILL BE SHOT! This comes from both sides of the street, too – the pro-gunners act like you are in constant criminal danger everywhere, the hoplophobes say you don’t dare  walk out the door lest a school shooting or mass murder kill you and your child.

Well, it ain’t necessarily so, as the old song says. Absent a few urban areas, we live in one of the safer countries around. According to a recently published study:

Some 73% of all murders in the U.S. took place in just 5% of counties while 52% of all counties reported no murders at all, according to a Crime Prevention Research Center study published this week and provided to Fox News Digital.

“Murder isn’t a nationwide problem,” the study found. “It’s a problem in a small set of urban areas and even in those counties murders are concentrated in small areas inside them, and any solution must reduce those murders.”

The 52% of counties with no reported murders covered 10% of the population, the study said. Some 68% of counties did not exceed one murder in 2020, which accounts for 2.6% of all murders in 2020, according to the report.

So in 7 out of 10 counties, the rate is about a murder a year. But – then we come to the ugly part.

Most murders took place in the “worst” 5% of counties that year while the worst 1% — only 31 counties — recorded 42% of the murders in 2020, the study said. That area is where 21% of the entire U.S. population lives.

The data show murders have become more concentrated since 2010. The country’s most dangerous 5% of counties accounted for 71% of U.S. murders in 2010, which fell to 69% in 2014 but jumped to 73% in 2020.

In L.A. County, the worst 10% of zip codes reported 41% of the murders, the worst 20% of zip codes accounted for 67% of the murders, and the worst 30% at 82% of murders.

31 counties. Less than one per state. Bet most could take a guess at the name of many of those counties…Harris in Texas, Cook in Illinois, New York (which has actually improved its rate, believe it or not) St. Louis in Missouri – bet they would all make the list. So think about that the next time you hear about proposed bans… the census bureau says there are 3007 counties. If you strain a little and add ‘county equivalents’ you top 3200. And 31 of them are half the problem, almost 70% didn’t even account for 3%.  Which is why gun bans etc. should remind you of the old military “one guy screws up, you all pay” system – and that wasn’t right then and isn’t right now.

Well, that put an eye on the target.

Didn’t know this for certain but suspected as much.

Yep, and now the once great state of Colorado is proposing a gun ban that’ll make the criminal in Illinois drool with envy..

Why are places wirh gun control– to include NYC, Chicago and Mexico– are violent sh*tholes? Not “systemic racism,” please, left/libtards.

NYC has improved its rate by driving a good portion of its population away. /s

I carry in a “rural” county. Realistically my chances of being a target of the criminal element is pretty low.
However
Some years ago a lady from our church was at the drive-through of her bank when three armed escapees from TDCJ hijacked her and her truck, forcing her into the passenger seat. An LEO from our church was off to one side shooting at the passenger side front tire. They got down the road some when the inmates abandoned the truck and ran into a wooded area. She was caught in the firefight – hunkered down behind the front wheels of the police car while the officers were engaged in a gun battle with the escapees.

More recently, gang members from Harris county have been coming up the highway to dump their executions in the woods. The meth dealers are setting up in areas they hope no LEO goes, etc.

We’ve had a few shootings among some of the local no-goods, too. (cont)

(cont) Friend reported a number of gunshots near their neighborhood (in town) of unknown origin.

I carry daily for the same reason I keep a fire extinguisher in my car. It has been 30+ years since I’ve pulled someone out of a burning vehicle – and I may never have to again.
But if I do, like Robert Lord Baden-Powell preached, Be Prepared.

I’ve watched violent crime skyrocket over my 50+ years
in Maine. Used to be the occassional domestic murder
but now it’s no different than the other new england states.
And the perpertrators are getting younger.

I can’t hear that motto without also hearing a goat belting it out:

64.000 + new yorkers who moved to Florida in 2022 went to the DMV for tags.

The ones leaving NYC are not generally the killers or victims, they are the people with the means and options to get out. The highest crime and most violent neighborhoods are also the worst shit holes. The residents are mostly too poor and have few options to get out and are easily preyed upon by gangs and mentally unstable people. Most murders are gang and drug related.

Of the cops were serious about protecting those sorts of people, they would arm each of them and train them. Bet that crap would decrease right quick after some of the thugs ended up dead from citizens unwilling to put up with it any further.

My home town of St Cloud, MN (Stearns County) was a very nice place to grow up. The population was very steady at 42,000 for most of my life there. I only remember two murders taking place in the 40 years I lived there.
Then came Catholic Charities, and Liberal Politics. They started bringing the poor, single females from Chicago into the city to “get them away from the abusive boyfriends and gangs”. Of course, the abusive boy friends and gangs simply followed them. Then came the “oh, we can handle 10,000 Somalis, even MORE if you wanna send ’em”. And the cycle was complete. Drug fueled violence skyrocketed, murders became more common, and drive-by shootings were at least a once a week happening. So, not only do the small number of counties have a problem; sometimes their problems get exported to places that don’t deserve them.

Is “social justice,” comrade– everyone must be equally miserable for equity! (Except for rich progressives with private security who advanced such policies, of course… )

Probably the same “enlightened” liberals who live in gated communities protected by armed guards.

You know how they are.

UNTIL some Bug Rights Activists start screeching and then everyone is forced to eat runny tofu!

The South gets loads of hate from the left due to their high murder rates and reasonable gun laws. If you look at say Louisanna, Mississippi and Alabama the murder rates are very high.

However the murders in all 3 are concentrated in three cities; Jackson, New Orelans and Birmingham. All three are run by liberal crazies. The mayor in Jackson is currently the son of the old mayor who was a black separatist, who wanted to start his own race based country across the South.Since he took over and promised to make Jackson the most radical city in the South the murder rate has climbed 40%.

Jackson is actually now the most dangerous city in the entire Western World with a murder rate the last 3 years higher than San Salvador.

Gee whiz, could that be due to being ruled by wacko liberals?

What I think is more interesting is that the countries with very liberal gun laws like say the Czech Republic are much safer.

The most common reason for firearm possession by Czech gun owners is for protection, with hunting and sport shooting being less common. The “right to acquire, keep and bear arm” is explicitly recognized in the first Article. On constitutional level, the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms includes the “right to defend own life or life of another person also with arms“.

When you get a carry permit there (Shall issue, and this includes you too as most foreigners are allowed to carry as well) it doesn’t expire, although if you get arrested you do get it flagged right away. And you have to take a physical every ten years to insure you are healthy enough. The permit actually allows you to carry two guns in case you need a backup.

They even allow most felons to carry after a period of non-recidivism.

Just think of the discount on CZ firearms there?

cobrakai99

31 counties are the problem, and NYC is five of those counties.

A Proud Infidel®™

For some reason that doesn’t surprise me even one bit, NYC’s strict gun Control laws sure make that place a kissy-huggy utopia, doesn’t it?

rgr769

The obvious reason none of these gun control laws work is because criminals willing to commit dangerous felonies could care less about gun control laws. For many of them, they are already guilty of violating multiple laws by merely acquiring or possessing their firearms.

BUTBUTBUT, it makes the blabbing soycake tofu-guzzling neuter boys and know-it-all wombat female libs feel good about themselves! While we’re at it, let’s compare per capita violent crime rates of populated areas in Blue States to those of less populous places where people are allowed to defend themselves and which will prove that Gun Control Laws and the politicians that pass them aid and abet violent criminals by assuring them via legislation that Law-abiding People will be conveniently unarmed VICTIMS.

As small price to pay for total control of the proletariat, comrade– is the party’s favorite sexual fantasy, you know!

“It’s a problem in a small set of a certain demographic…”

The pro-gun lobby has been talking about this for years. I have to wonder what the ulterior motive for the media paying attention this time. Especially since this study was conducted by John Lott…the researcher gun banners love to hate.

There’s always an ulterior motive. Especially when they’re touting well known facts as if they just “discovered” them.

Even more interesting to me (and not mentioned in the article) is that in those high crime areas, it is a very small percentage of the population who commit the vast majority of the crimes. Murder suspects inevitably have very long rap sheets that start with petty crimes when they’re young and work their way up in levels of violence.

It’s almost like if people who have demonstrated repeatedly that they can’t peaceably live in civil society are removed from said society, the crime rates might actually go down.

Nah, it’s gotta be the guns.

USMC Steve

And guess where the vast majority of those counties are located? If you said blue America you would be correct.

Free America seems to have far less of a problem with this.
