Defense Secretary wants to keep vaccine mandate

| December 5, 2022

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated that he wanted to keep the COVID-19 vaccine mandate in place in the military. He mentioned that the virus killed a lot of people, and that the DOD had lost hundreds to the pandemic. Austin believes that the mandate has kept people healthy.

From ABC News:

ABOARD A U.S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT — Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said he wants to keep the military’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate in place to protect the health of the troops, as Republican governors and lawmakers press to rescind it.

This past week more than 20 Republican governors sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking that the administration remove the mandate, saying it has hurt the U.S. National Guard’s ability to recruit troops. Those troops are activated by governors to respond to natural disasters or unrest.

Congress may consider legislation this coming week to end the mandate as a requirement to gather enough support to pass this years’ defense budget, which is already two months late.

Austin said he would not comment on pressure from the Hill.

“We lost a million people to this virus,” Austin told reporters traveling with him Saturday. “A million people died in the United States of America. We lost hundreds in DOD. So this mandate has kept people healthy.”

“I’m the guy” who ordered the military to require the vaccine, Austin added. “I support continuation of vaccinating the troops.”

Last year Austin directed that all troops get the vaccine or face potential expulsion from the military; thousands of active duty forces have been discharged since then for their refusal to get the shots.

ABC News has the story here.

The EU has dropped it along with most countries for entry. It isn’t just pointless at this point it is actually silly.

Anonymous

Most EU nations will ban Covid vacc under age 12 as unsafe if they haven’t already, too.

Old tanker

Did he count the folks released from AD over refusal to get the shots as part of the loss of hundreds?

Hack Stone

Is Monkeypox still a thing? You would think that with the rich tapestry of our diversity in sexual orientations, a Monkeypox vaccination mandate would be on the table.

And what about mandatory abortions? We have been told by legislators within the Democrat Party that access to abortions is necessary for military readiness. If so, then it only makes sense to terminate every pregnancy among military members, in the interest of National Security.

A Proud Infidel®™

Hey, now that you mention it, the great Monkeypox Apocalypse never did take shape, did it?

rgr769

It is now called “Mpox,” you racist. They changed the name of the disease because the word “monkey” implies people in Africa boinking monkeys is how it first infected humans. Get up to date Hack. By the way what are your pronouns, so I never mispronoun you?

5JC

Hack always self identifies as a third person, therefore he is an Illeist.

Roh-Dog

Indefinite omnipresent singular third person, “therefore [Hack] is [Illeism].”

Green Thumb

I just went with Monkresspox.

The mandate is working as “expected”. Without exception, all of the Soldiers I have lost due to this are my best and brightest.

The replacements we get arrive from OSUT as fat bodies, ACFT failures, unable to qualify, etc.

Nobody -and I mean fucking no SNCO- are looking forward to when the balloon goes up with Russia.

Amateur Historian

I’ll remain near the bat phone ’til they wise up and give me a call.

5JC

Well, since the Russian Army has been attrited into combat ineffectiveness by a third rate power, they would be forced to rely on nukes so nobody is looking forward to that.

Amateur Historian

Well, except the Ukrainian government.

5JC

Dying in nuclear fire is one way to end the war.

Putin will nuke Kiev, declare victory and leave, watch.

Going to be hard to uncross that line. Russia is about already maxed out. Damn, my fallout shelter was getting put in next week, they couldn’t wait one more week?

Amateur Historian

And the secdef and the pentagon perfumed princes wonder why they are having a difficult time meeting recruiting goals.

Marine general blames the vaccine mandate directly.

Going against the POTATUS flow is dangerous. Hope they don’t replace him for speaking the truth.

USMC Steve

No, we really do hope it gets him shitcanned. Berger is fucking up the Marine Corps, and by doing that is materially weakening our ability to defend our country.

poetrooper

Read the article, AH. Berger’s not speaking any truth–he’s blaming the benighted ignorance of the anti-vaxxers for the problem. He’s got his nose firmly embedded in Austin’s fat ass.

Amateur Historian

Right, yeah I made a mistake. I also read this a couple of years ago and forgot about it. Didn’t realize I was talking about the same guy. I retract my earlier comment.

“Never let a crisis go to waste.” Approaching 3 years of the 2 weeks needed to flatten the curve. Has the herd achieved any immunity from the BS yet?

So thousands have been expelled against the “hundreds” who have died from Covid. Sounds a bit counterintuitive there, Lloyd. At the same time, looking at numbers from defense.gov, across the board (active military, dependent, civilian, and contractor) there have been 690 deaths from Covid. Against almost 750,000 case. That number is so microscopic its an anomaly. Meanwhile we have 2.4 million across the board in active/reserve forces….and 690 dead. Thousands discharged due to refusing a mandate. Every service suffering in retention and recruiting goals. Mandate stands in place.

In conclusion, Lloyd Ausin is a fucking idiot. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

He is the epitome of an affirmative action hire.

rgr769

Yes, it is obvious he made general officer because of his race.

poetrooper

Correcto mundo–and he made SecDef because of his willingness to relentlessly pursue the Democrats’ woke agenda regardless of the harm it inflicts on the nation’s fighting forces.

UpNorth

Actually, Poe, I think he was given the job because “of the harm it inflicts on the nation’s fighting forces”.

Suicide is obviously the more cost-effective solution.

Amateur Historian

The Nazi’s thought involuntary suicide was cost effective too.

Wait ’til the VA gets that bright cost-saving idea here.

Meanwhile, in an effort to drum up business, the Navy is allowing up to 20% of their FY accessions as Cat IVs (10-30 on the ASVAB). The FY21 goal was 33,400. 20% of that is 6600. We can’t recruit the best and brightest…so now we’ll have over 6 thousand retards trying to fuck a football in 2023. Awesome.

This sounds like Project 100000/McNamara’s Morons all over again. Someone remind me how that worked out?

5JC

Do you have a link? That is the max allowable by statue but last I checked the Navy wasn’t taking any.

Jay

Its COMNAVCRUITCOM notice 1130. Ill try to find the exact link.

Claw

Project 100,000 lasted over five years (October 1966 to end of year 1971), so they’re just getting started.

But you gotta remember that the last draftee from that group retired 10 years ago (after putting in 40) as a CW5, so it’s gonna be a mix and match kind of thing.

How many politicians like the Bidens own stock in Pfizer and/or Moderna, the companies producing the ‘vaccine”, thus they’re profiting off of the mess?

January 1983 – I served 6 years in the newly formed 1st Bde 10th Mtn First under then Colonel John “Jack” Keane, now a retired 4 star and FOX news commentator, when the Brigade strength was under 50 total troops. Major Lloyd Austin arrived 3 years later and was S-3 and later XO of 2/22 Inf. Austin pinned on his silver oakleaf and moved to XO of 1st Brigade shortly after we moved out of the WWII barracks.

Anybody who heard Austin speak back then said he sounded just like Darth Vader. The nickname stuck.

https://www.military.com/daily-news/2022/12/04/vaccine-mandate-hurting-recruiting-top-marines-general-says.html

The COVID-19 vaccine mandate is contributing to the military’s recruitment troubles, the top general in the Marine Corps said on Saturday.
Speaking during a panel at the Reagan National Defense Forum in Simi Valley, California, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. David Berger defended the vaccine mandate as a necessity for keeping the force healthy. But he indicated the mandate has posed problems for recruiting in pockets of the United States where vaccine misinformation is prevalent.
