Free Shit!
Well, tomorrow’s Veterans Day and some of you may plan your day around all the free shit you can get. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
Applebee’s eatin’ good in the neighborhood free meal, WaWa free coffee, Starbucks free hot or iced coffee, Dunkin Donuts free donut, Krispy Kreme free coffee and donut, Olive Garden free meal, Outback’s free Bloomin’ Onion and drink, free pancakes at IHOP, Denny’s free Grand Slam, Buffalo Wild Wings free wings and fries, Red Robin’s free burger and fries, Wendy’s free breakfast, free meal and drink at Hooter’s, free shrimp at Red Lobster… it’s all up for grabs if you’re willing to wait in line.
Just thought I would do an open post so that those of you that are so inclined can post some of the free or discounted benefits that Veterans can take advantage of.
I’ll kick it off…
Fold3.com is offering free access to their research this weekend ending 13 Nov 2022.
Being a veteran is meaningful to all of us so sometimes I cringe when I see “30% off gutter cleaning for all veterans on Veteran’s Day” or “50% off all oil change, lube and front end alignment” or “20% off routing your sewer lines” unless of course you need those things.
Try not to cheapen the moment, but then, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Definitely post some examples of what was kind of extreme to be offered on Veteran’s Day.
Post’em if you got ’em.

First!
All this free entertainment!
Its Poser Day and Substandard Discharge Day!
You just know they will be out in full force tomorrow.
They always are.
We have a few turds locally who keep their heads down around honrable vets during the year but these losers come out in force for the freebies.
Ahh yes…my annual “hide inside and wait until it’s over day”. I WILL however venture out to Mission BBQ and enjoy a free pulled chicken sandwich/piece of cake because they genuinely seem to enjoy supporting/serving veterans instead of making it a chore.
Forgot about Mission. I remember the first time I walked into a Mission BBQ. It was 1200 on the dot and as soon as I crossed the threshold the Star Spangled Banner started playing. I immediately stopped and stood at attention, stopping the 2 or 3 people behind me from entering. 🤣 Old habits die hard. The food was pretty good and I remember that they had RC in the glass bottle along with that other southern favorite, Cheer Wine.
I may scarf down some of the free cookies and lemonade that the DAR Ladies will have prepared for the Flag Retirement Ceremony that is planned. Full disclosure…I WILL scarf down a multitude of the free cookies…
I may help present the colors with my Legion post tomorrow, depending on how many folks show up. Then adjourn to the post canteen for a Yuengling or two.
On another note, I like the picture of Phil Monkress at the top.
It must have been a recent photo as the Phil Monkress pictured has some type of consistency versus the usual loose stool that Phil Monkress is….
If you are a veteran, both McDonald’s and Taco Bell offer the following two free things on Veteran’s Day – 1) Jack and 2) Squat.
Better than a blown gut….
That’s very different from their daily dose of “Indifference and cold fries”
Or a Phildo Burger and a side of lies.
All-Points Logistics style….
(Phildo Sauce is extra).
…and sloppy Big Macs or Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuits that look nothing like the ads.
I avoid all those places. As I grow older (how old? non’ya bidness) I dislike crowds and noises more and more.
“2022 Veterans Day Free Meals and Restaurant Deals and Discounts”
https://www.military.com/veterans-day/restaurants-veterans-day-military-discounts.html
The list is long!
Happy Veteran’s Day!
🇺🇲🫡
The only Veterans’ discount ol’ Poe has routinely availed himself of is at Lowes and Home Depot, where, depending on the size of your project, 10% is not to be sneezed at.
Poe once saved several thousand on a major remodeling project. More recently it was over $600 on a heat pump and $500 on flooring.
And at Lowes, if a big-ticket item is on sale, you can still get the vet discount, on top of the sale price. Depending on your salesperson, you may have to get the store manager to approve it, but they always do.
I worked at Lowe’s for a few months post-retirement. On Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day, we could take the 10% veterans discount on top of the 10% employee discount on top of the sale price.
I’m with you on HD and Lowe’s, Poe… the local Sports Clips gives me a military discount when I go in to get my hair cut (It’s nice having a 20 something cutie wash your hair while in a vibrating recliner!!!) and a local chain of restaurants (Shari’s) has 4 items on their menu today that are free for vets – I’ve only done the Shari’s once and it is some good grub – especially if you like Chicken Fried Steak.
Thank you.
Looks like he just smoked some Parmesan cheese…🤣
Funny.
Looks like Lars.
I can’t* do Vet day deals anymore after I heard how many I have a hat “give me free shit for my cervix” tossers who go to whatever restaurant and stiff the server ‘cauis it waz free after seeing it happen in one place and asked them if it was common.
*ok I will go to WAWA, shit I spend plenty there the rest of the year.
I counted roughly 250 places that gave discounts/free meals etc on my online American Legion email. Going to Applebees tommoro and Golden Coral monday and thats it….
I avoid the free meal restaurants because of the phonies; however, one time I couldn’t. The Mrs and I went to a restaurant (it’s now out of business, thanx covid) on Veterans’ Day because it didn’t have free food. As we sat at our table, the waitress said, “Hey Dennis, you’re a Vet right? The boss says your meal is on the house.” I miss that place.
Wife(also a vet) gets to march free in local Vets Day parade with the dogs. Think that’s the only freebie locally. Small town, only chains are Dollar General, Subway and Ceffco.
Anybody want to take bets on the Round Ranger trying to get some freebies at the local Hooters?
Probably to busy servicing folks at the All-Points Logistics cantina in Merritt Island, Florida.
Phil Monkress would approve of this advertisement.
William Derek Church is a turd.
Word.
A fat one to boot.
Yeah, no. I’ve gone this long without free shit, can go without that much longer. I don’t need freebies to know what I did.
I’ll be satisfied if I can TAKE a good shit, and have a quiet day without kids walking on my lawn.
I gotta ask…why is it that it’s called “taking a shit” when you’re actually leaving something behind?💩💩💩
Why is it called a BJ?
Q: What’s the best thing about a BJ?
A: Ten minutes of silence.
I’ll be out collecting all of the FREE SHIT I’m entitled to!
I tend to stay home. It’s a personal thing. I had it easy in my time, no combat and only a brief month’s TDY to Panama for the end of Just Cause and the beginning of Promote Liberty. I turned in my baretta unfired along with the single mag they issued me.
I’d rather the “kids” that came after and my elder Brothers in Arms get their due and be recognized, To me I just don’t feel like my Reserve time (24 years) really deserves it.
Thank you for your service sir! Never discount or feel that it wasn’t worthy! There was a need for National Defense, and you filled it!!!! It doesn’t matter what was asked, your provided it!
