Officials: Oregon deputy stabs patient in struggle for gun
A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy stabbed a male patient multiple times after he tried to take the officer’s firearm, officials said Monday.
The deputy was at the Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center’s Emergency Department with the patient, who was being admitted on a civil hold, when the patient charged the deputy at about 3 a.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
“The adult male ignored the deputy’s commands to stop and continued to attack the deputy and try to gain possession of the deputy’s firearm,” the sheriff’s office said. “During the struggle, the adult male was stabbed multiple times by the deputy.”
The patient was taken to another area of the hospital for treatment.

OK. So here we have a case of a fellow bringing both a knife and a gun to a fight. Good planning. The other gentleman brought nothing with entirely predictable results.

Only so many times until “Please put down the gun or we’ll shoot you” is just noise. Thanks again for the links, Gun Bunny. Been on the road the last few days. I didn’t go anywhere I would likely need a coach gun, but it’s really not a question of need, is it?
Freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage to defend it.

“the adult male was stabbed multiple times by the deputy”
I didn’t know cops carried a shiv.
Wonder what brand.
They were in a hospital, plenty of sharp instruments within easy reach. Maybe the officer stabbed him with a COVID needle.
A scalpel?
Some departments prohibit carrying a back up gun. Quite a few LEO’s carry a knife large enough to be used as a back up in a bad situation. There are tons of folders that qualify now unlike back in the 70’s when I carried a dagger in my boot.
Craftsman makes them in both straight blade and phillips
but you have to sharpen them a bit.
I know that in prison #2 pencils have been used as shanks to great effect.
But “multiple” seems to hint that the tool of choice was made to be stabby.
And at bad-breath distances, a shank of some sort is sometimes the better option.
I always carried a Blackmore Dirk on the side straps of my body armor… Just in case
“I wanna buy another gun”
Too late.
Already bought one.
(Now I need to buy more ammo).
Rookie.
A double case of teh stoopid and a double barrel shottie! Don’t hardly get no better than that. There may and/or may not be a Rossi Repop 1862 Overland Stage Rabbit Eared 12 gg within reach here at Firebase Magnolia…or when on “Escort Duty”. When I call “shotgun” as my charges are heading to the Prime Mover, I mean it…literally.
I have a Rossie .22 pump gallary rifle Plus I a .22 pump gallery rifle which I think is a Taurus but cannot remember. When I moved down here in 2007, I had both break downs (two piece rifles) in one case and stored in the closet. Haven’t looked at them since.
