Magnet Fishers cleared of charges – three folks made the news magnet fishing near Ft. Stewart recently who pulled up a duffel bag containing 86 rockets, .50 cal ammo belts and a tank tracer round from the river. They were charged by authotities:
The group found the ammunition and 86 rockets in a Delta Airlines duffel bag, and said they were just trying to do the right thing by calling in the bomb squad. That ultimately led to three citations for each of them — two tickets for $130 and one for $80 — for magnet fishing at Fort Stewart, entering a closed area and not having appropriate permits. Military Times
A Federal court in Statesboro (“that’s Statesboro, Georgia” – h/t to Taj Mahal) cleared the trio of charges and they will not have to pay fines. The ordinance dated from the ’70s or ’80s and was found in a Delta Airlines duffel bag. Have to wonder if it was to be checked luggage?
“Little Debbie” out of commissaries – McKee Foods says the regulatory burden of supplying the commissary system is too heavy so they will stop selling to the commissary system.
And while Little Debbie snack cakes will still be sold in off-base grocery stores, the company’s dwindling stock on commissary shelves is sure to be a blow to morale. Military Times again
Don’t know about how big a blow to morale this will be, but I am curious about why the commissary regulations are so burdensome? WalMart used to be known as a difficult customer because any in-bound delivery found to be less than perfect (ie. one broken pallet from a truck) would cause the entire shipment to be rejected at the shipper’s expense. If Little Debbie can be sold at most stores and WalMart, what is so special about commissaries? Anyone know?
VA going ahead with offering abortions
The Department of Veterans Affairs on Friday plowed ahead with its plan to offer abortion counseling and services through its hospitals for the first time to veterans, spouses and dependents as abortion is being banned around the country and Republicans are vowing to block the move.
In an interim final rule published in the Federal Register, the department gave official notice that it will offer abortion services to those covered by its health care system in cases of rape, incest and danger to the life or health of the mother.
McDonough has said that the department is not prohibited by law from providing abortions, but has not offered the services only because they were not included in the department’s medical benefits package published in 1999.
Republicans cite the Veterans Health Care Act of 1992, which directed the VA to provide reproductive health care except for “infertility services, abortions or pregnancy care” unless that care is needed because of a service-connected condition. Military Times Redux
Funny how they announce this on a Friday when the news is preoccupied elsewhere. Gonna be a pissing contest over this, to be sure.

Airborne…
Godspeed and Fare Well, Good Sir. Nothing but soft landings ahead. Beware the size of the fight in the little Dog.
Nothing like being all chuted up and sitting around on the tarmac for several hours waiting for the weather on the DZ to improve.
“The Navy Is Withholding Court Records in Bonhomme Richard Fire Case”
https://www.propublica.org/article/navy-bonhomme-fire-records
“Despite a 2016 law requiring more transparency of court-martials, the U.S. Navy is refusing to release nearly all court documents in a high-profile case in which a sailor faces life in prison.”
“Last week, the military judge in Mays’ case denied requests made separately by the defense and ProPublica to make the records public. Cmdr. Derek Butler sidestepped the defense’s claims — that the government was violating Mays’ Sixth Amendment right to a public trial — and ProPublica’s assertions of the First Amendment. Butler didn’t address the constitutional issues at hand and instead said he didn’t have the authority to release the records.”

“The 8 Most Useless Pieces of Gear Ever Issued”
https://www.military.com/off-duty/2019/07/17/8-most-useless-pieces-gear-ever-issued.html
* Mosquito Nets – Vietnam
* Army Cold Weather Mask
* Black Berets
* Sun-Wind-Dust Goggles – Iraq & Afghanistan
* NBC Gear – U.S. Navy
* Black Leather Gloves with Wool Inserts
* M65 Field Jacket
* Load-Bearing Equipment
Jeeze, you brought back some memories starting with the mosquito net…..useless as teats on a bull!!
😉👍👍👍👍
Same As Wearing Masks for COVID…
I must disagree. The skeeter net was quite useful over/around my cot at Camp Reasoner near Da Nang. Of course, they were useless in the bush. Mosquitoes love to dine on me, and I get huge itchy welts from every bite.
Happily wear the M65 field jacket in the current pattern today. (Yes, I’m old– have a thing about natural fibers not melting/shrinking if ignited by pyro in combat. GoreTex gets hard/crinkly as a pillow when it’s cold, too.)
I much preferred wearing the M1951 (8405-255-8586 Long Medium) Field Jacket to the M65. It really looked spiffy when you broke starch, what with the sharp lapels instead of rounded ones. Oh, well, those days are gone forever.
When I did weekends in the ANG 1975-1977, My fatigues were starched from the cleaners and one weekend we went on a march so one of the guys said now you have to break starch for the march. Was the only one in the Company beside the CO and a couple of NCO’s that starched their fatigues and I was awarded a free weekend off a couple of times after the CO said that anyone attending drill will get a weekend off so next thing you knew, troopers came in with starched fatigues.
“Big Navy Investigating SEAL Basic Training”
https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2022/09/12/big-navy-investigating-seal-basic-training/
” Navy leadership has ordered an investigation into “the broader circumstances” of SEAL basic training following the death of a candidate earlier this year and recent media reports that raise questions about the rigors of Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL — or BUD/S — training, as well as the steps sailors are willing to take to get through.”
“The Navy investigation into the BUD/S process follows a separate probe into the Feb. 4 death of Seaman Kyle Mullen, 24, at the end of Hell Week that raised further questions about the brutal training regimen, according to the sea service.”
“While his official cause of death was bacterial pneumonia, Mullen’s family told the Times they believe the BUD/S course and its incessant physical demands ultimately killed the sailor and that he wasn’t properly monitored or hospitalized.”
And now this…
“Navy quietly rolled back punishments for SEALs seeking religious exemptions to the COVID vaccine”
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/navy-quietly-rolled-back-punishments-seals-seeking-religious-exemptions-covid-vaccine
“The U.S. Navy quietly rolled back an order punishing SEALs who remain unvaccinated due to their religious beliefs.”
“The order, “Trident Order #12,” disqualified SEALs seeking religious exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccine from training, traveling for deployment and conducting other standard business. It was first issued on Sept. 24, 2021 by Vice Chief of Naval Operations Admiral William Lescher, and all special warfare forces were initially expected to come into compliance with the vaccine mandate by mid-October 2021.”
“However, according to a new filing in the lawsuit, the Navy quietly rolled back Trident Order #12 on May 22, 2022, a few months after the injunction was issued.”
Them fishermen are lucky they weren’t tied to the Whipping Post. That would’ve given them the Statesboro Blues. Best to become a Ramblin’ Man. Jessica had no comment.
Used to love to snack on Little Debbie. That was before she went to Dallas.
Wonder how many that want an abortion of convenience will claim they meet the requirements?
Wonder if any “Men” will request one!
Those little rockets, are training round for the M-72. A re-loadable insert goes in the tube and is wired into the firing mechanism. The rocket “warhead” is a small smoke and burst charge. It was fun trying to see how many you could stick into the side of a M113, like a dart board.
Rub you long time, G.I.?
