“From Dallas, Texas, the flash, apparently official: (reading AP flash) “President Kennedy died at 1 p.m. Central Standard Time.” (glancing up at clock) 2 o’clock Eastern Standard Time, some 38 minutes ago.”

“Vice President Johnson has left the hospital in Dallas, but we do not know to where he has proceeded. Presumably, he will be taking the oath of office shortly and become the 36th president of the United States.”
Walter Cronkite – November 22, 1963

Walter Cronkite Jr. dead at 92.

I always thought of Cronkite as a cleaned up hippie and socialist but he had his moments.

Most notably landing in a glider with the 101st Airborne during Operation Market Garden in September 1944.

So, lefty journalist aside, I salute anyone with balls enough to ride a glider into combat.

God speed Mr. Cronkite.

My momma always told me if I had nothing to say good it was best not to say anything.

He was certainly a force in journalism and he paved the way for other journalists.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Frankly Opinionated

There is a case to be made that his defense of his country ended with his discharge from service.

“He was certainly a force in journalism and he paved the way for other journalists”. Yeah, Dan Blather, Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Keith Olbermann, et al. Quite a legacy. As 1Cav said, as I can say nothing good, I won’t say anything.

Sorry, guys, and flame me if you want, but the only difference between him and Jane Fonda was that one did their propaganda and demoralizing America and her troops from the seat of an AA gun, and one did it from the seat of a newsdesk. Not much difference, if you ask me.
