Gunman killed by police at Texas summer camp had opened fire near classroom filled with kids

Police quickly ended a potential siege at a children’s sports camp in the Dallas area Monday when they fatally shot a gunman who had opened fire inside the complex, but did not injure anyone. The unidentified man appeared to have fired twice in Duncanville Fieldhouse, a youth sports and training venue in the city of the same name about 13 miles south of Dallas, police said.
The armed suspect entered through the complex’s main lobby doors and was confronted by a staff member, Duncanville Police Department Assistant Chief Matt Stogner said at an afternoon news conference.
The staff member told the man to go outside, according to a city spokesperson. The suspect “fired one shot when he was told to go outside,” the official said, adding the staff member was not armed.
The alleged gunman then went to what was described as a classroom filled with children and opened fire from outside after he was unable to get in, the assistant chief said.
“Fortunately, no one was injured,” he said.
Beginning with the first sounds of gunfire, children at the complex were moved into a “safe area” that was then locked, steps staffers were trained to execute in active shooter situations, Stogner said.
The suspect moved to the main gym, he said, where there were still children present, but no shots were fired, at least until officers arrived and engaged in the firefight that killed him.

A potential mass shooting at a kid’s summer camp averted- wonder why there’s no media on the event. Thanks to our Gun Bunny for the link.

No fault to the police for their reaction to this Duncanville school shooting.
But it still highlights the fact that TEACHERS need to be trained and armed, because “when seconds count, the police are only minutes away”.
…waiting for someone else to breach the door.
Not that I disagree, but I’d qualify this:
Teachers who are willing ought to be allowed to be trained and armed.
Not everyone has the ability – mentally or psychologically – to be a sheepdog. And although many teachers with whom I’ve worked love their students dearly, not all of them had the makeup to use a firearm.
Oh, definitely, it would have to be voluntary. With maybe an incentive for those teachers willing to carry & TRULY protect their charges – possibly – have their training costs covered; a partial reimbursement of the cost of their carry gun & ammunition. BUT – those teachers would have to continue to stay certified for “x” period of time, and show proficiency.
A couple of years ago, some students wanted to carry concealed while attending college classes which either the admin didn’t want or the local pd didn;t want so there was a comprimise that if the students who wanted to carry had to go through an active shooter scenario where the “shooter” would enter the classroom and the student/students would shoot back with those training rounds that are used. Only problem was that the instructor had the students change the positions of their holsters so when the Shooter came in, only one student was able to respond fast enough and got off a couple of shots that hit the shooter. I believe she was involved in mucho combat matches so it looked like the holsters were moved so the test would fail either by the pd or school admin orders.
Yup
Baltimore demands a recount.
Some cultures, synthetically hybridized by frenetic violent rhymes with a smattering of state-sponsored and -imposed ignorance, are more trigger happy than others.
I’m grateful that a’many people have become aware of this pernicious virus, have taken steps to insulate themselves from which, and asserted their Natural Right of self-protection.
Damn the few bastards that ruin these places! May God bless the heroes remaining, may He keep the flame of liberty lighted in their hearts and keep them safe from these murderous devils!!
“Some cultures…” Are we still talking about the Mennonites? Or have we moved on to the Baptists? How about those Amish Carriage drivers with their buggy whips and reins? I like to whip my buggy (aka shopping cart to damyankys) thru the K Roger when I’m on a fast pass provision run.
Home boi got nailed by the good citizen. How’d that “prohibited from owning a firearm” law work out for the female that got shot?
Texas. Same state, same semi scnerio (school under attack), different outcome. Seen the same thing in Flu-Ruh-Duh. That article was well and truly buried, deep.
I could use a nice tack driving target pistol. The target would be squirrels and sech. .577, .54, .45, .40, .38, 12gg, and 7.62X39 don’t leave much for the stew pot. Hit ’em just right, head on or stern shot, and you can gut them at the same time, so there is that. Make a nice bore swab for the Cohorn with the fur.
We shorely seeing, now, what Lord A saw then.
When I was on the Brink’s shooting team, we used to shoot center fire .38 target wheel guns in Police EL matches. Myself and another co worker shot the .22 rimfire Police EL matches after the center fire matches were over where I used my Hi Standard .22 semi auto and my co worker had the Ruger .22 target semi auto and he used to tell me about how much of a pain in the ass it was to field strip it for cleaning
Off topic, but still a feel good story. The Creepy Porn Lawer, M. Avenatti, just plead guilty in federal court in LA. He is looking at about another 80 years in the pound on top of his existing sentences.
