Alligator rips off chunk of man’s leg in Florida after he mistook it for dog
A man lost a chunk of his leg when he was attacked by an alligator outside a Florida hotel after mistaking the reptile for a dog, police said.
The bizarre incident unfolded as the man was walking outside the Warm Mineral Springs Motel in North Port around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and noticed a dark figure shuffling around in some bushes, WFLA reported, citing the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
Thinking that it was a dog attached to a long leash, the man didn’t move out of the way when the gator charged toward him.
Then the alligator bit his leg and ripped off a piece of his muscle tissue, deputies said.
A deputy who was out on a separate call in the area responded. The man was taken by paramedics to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to WWSB.
While waiting for an animal trapper to respond, another deputy was able to capture the gator, which was removed from the area.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the attack.

A person was arrested recently in Wisconsin after driving a car on a footbridge.
Eau Claire police posted a video of the incident on the department’s Facebook page Wednesday, saying the driver was arrested for impaired driving.
“Can’t believe we have to say this, but…PLEASE do not drive on the Phoenix Park footbridge….. or sidewalks….. or any other footbridges in the city for that matter,” the department wrote.
In the video, the car can be seen turning onto the footbridge from First Avenue and then driving right on the sidewalk through the park.

UN Selects North Korea to lead the disarmament conference
Last week, North Korea assumed control as the chair of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament, the U.N. forum for negotiating multilateral disarmament efforts across the globe. It’s the latest in a string of questionable moves the U.N. has taken in putting nation officials in contradictory positions.
North Korea officially took over the U.N. disarmament conference on Monday, according to NK News. The U.N. move quickly drew criticism from nongovernmental organizations that noted North Korea’s major nuclear weapons development efforts in recent months.
In March, North Korea conducted its first full intercontinental ballistic missile test in over four years. North Korea also conducted a ballistic missile test just days before President Joe Biden visited neighboring South Korea.
“North Korea has just taken over as chair of the Conference on Disarmament here at the United Nations in Geneva,” tweeted United Nations Watch executive director Hillel Neuer. “This is not a joke. When they preside at tomorrow’s meeting, our coalition of 40 UN-accredited NGOs is calling on all democracies to walk out.”
“Having the North Korean regime of Kim Jong-un preside over global nuclear weapons disarmament will be like putting a serial rapist in charge of a women’s shelter,” Neuer added.
Neuer also circulated an appeal for countries to walk out of the U.N. disarmament conference. “Our appeal for countries to walk out, signed by 40 civil society groups worldwide.”
“This is a country that threatens to attack other UN member states with missiles, and that commits atrocities against its own people,” Neuer added in the statement. “Torture and starvation are routine in North Korean political prison camps where an estimated 100,000 people are held in what is one of the world’s most dire human-rights situations.”
According to U.N. Watch, North Korea will lead the disarmament conference from May 30 until June 24. While North Korea will only control the disarmament forum for about four weeks, it will have presiding authority over multiple arms control discussions, including the discussion topics of “Cessation of the nuclear arms race and nuclear disarmament” and “Prevention of nuclear war, including all related matters.”
The U.N. has faced criticism for other controversial picks to lead major initiatives.
In April 2020, the U.N. appointed Jiang Duan, the minister at the Chinese Mission in Geneva, to represent the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) on the U.N. Human Rights Council’s Consultative Group. Some groups have criticized the U.N. for giving China expanded powers on human rights panels despite carrying out human rights abuses against their minority Uyghur population.
In May 2020, the U.N. also named Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s wife Peng Liyuan as a World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador. Peng had been photographed in a Chinese military uniform singing for Chinese troops at Tiananmen Square in 1989 after they violently dispersed protestors in an event known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre.
The U.N. also named Chinese television anchor James Chau as a goodwill ambassador. Neuer noted Chau had broadcasted the Chinese government’s forced confession of captured British national, Peter Humphrey, who was made to confess to stealing the data of Chinese citizens.
Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley has also criticized the U.N. Human Rights Council for including “murderers, dictators and thieves.”

NYC corrections captain at Rikers dies in Dominican Republic after Brazilian butt lift from bogus doc: report
An NYC Department of Correction captain died reportedly after traveling to the Dominican Republic to receive a Brazilian butt lift from a phony doctor once indicted for operating without a medical license.
Tandra Bowser-Williams, a 49-year-old Corrections Captain at Rikers Island, suffered a massive stroke just days after jetting off to Santo Domingo to receive a fat transfer surgery from plastic surgeon, Dr. Hector Cabral, on May 13, her husband, Curtis Williams, recently recounted to N.Y. Daily News.
Cabral was previously indicted in March 2011 under former New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman on 10 counts of operating without a medical license and fraud and conspiracy charges.
He was accused of charging for consultations and medical examinations at med spas and beauty parlors in New York before luring unsuspecting patients with bargain prices to the Dominican Republic for discount cosmetic surgeries, which ultimately left many women permanently disfigured.
Bowser-Williams’ husband said his partner since 1996 was confident in Cabral’s abilities despite his past indictment.
“Her exact words to me were, ‘you’re gonna love Dr. Cabral’s work.’ I didn’t care one way or another. I accepted my wife the way she was,” he said. “Everybody is distraught. She was the heart, the lifeline of the family. The heartbeat.”
The Daily News reported that Cabral ultimately cut a plea deal with prosecutors that guaranteed no jail time. He was fined $5,000 and was ordered to pay $23,055 in restitution and complete 250 hours of community service in the Dominican Republic, according to the newspaper.
Cabral returned to Santo Domingo and opened Centro Internacional de Cirugia Plastica Avanzada, where Bowser-Williams received her recent surgery.
Her husband said he received a call a day later from a nurse at United Hearts Clinic, where she had been moved about a mile away after the procedure and ultimately died before Williams could arrive to the Caribbean in time to be by her side.
In 2017, the New York City Department of Health warned of eight patients in New York City and two in Connecticut who returned from “lipo-tourism” trips from the Dominican Republic with dangerous bacterial infections and other serious symptoms including abdominal abscesses, pain, wound discharge, and fever. No deaths had been immediately reported in connection to those cases.
Daily News reported that Cabral’s clinic footed the bill for Williams’ travel to the Dominican Republic, as well as other costs related to his wife’s death, including paying the local funeral home to have her body embalmed. The newspaper said Bowser-Williams’ death does not appear to be under investigation.
“She was always a good captain, never tried to escape work, always worked in the jails, always worked with inmates,” Patrick Ferraiuolo, President of the Correction Captains union, told the newspaper. “It’s a real loss. She certainly didn’t deserve this. She was a trooper.”

Cincinnati officer reassigned over ‘pure evil’ tattoo, later fired for insubordination, failure of good behavior
A Cincinnati police officer is out of a job after tattooing the words “pure” and “evil” on his hands.
Eric Weyda was fired from the department after getting “pure” tattooed on his right knuckles and “evil” on his left knuckles. Now he is trying to get his job back. Weyda appealed the decision to dismiss him and filed a grievance through the Fraternal Order of Police.
Through public records requests, WLWT learned Weyda was dismissed from the department for insubordination and failure of good behavior in late April, four months after his superiors noticed his new hand tattoo.
Department policy prohibits tattoos on the face, neck, head and hands.
CPD internal records show after getting the tattoo, Weyda was reassigned to the impound lot “to limit his public exposure.”
Cincinnati police leadership wrote, “Officer Weyda’s tattoos are a violation that is ongoing and permanent. Additionally, Officer Weyda’s tattoos do not promote the professional and neutral image of the Cincinnati Police Department and are injurious to the public trust.”
In a summary of Weyda’s disciplinary hearing, a CPD captain wrote, “Weyda showed remorsefulness for obtaining the tattoo and acknowledged a lack of discretion since he obtained the tattoo in December 2021. Furthermore, Officer Weyda stated, like all of his tattoos, his hand tattoo has a personal message to him, and the words ‘pure evil’ should not be observed as one message. Officer Weyda explained the words “pure” and “evil” are separate from each other and the words themselves have separate meanings.”
The summary goes on to say Weyda explained to the Internal Investigations Section the tattoo is meant to represent a “struggle between good and evil.”
The police captain also wrote that “Officer Weyda’s message also has the very real possibility to cause extraordinary damage to police community relations both locally and nationally.”
During his disciplinary hearing, police records show Weyda said he would not have the tattoos removed due to the cost of cosmetic surgery.
FOP President Dan Hils released the following statement: “The FOP represents all Cincinnati police officers when they participate in the grievance process outlined in our collective bargaining agreement. Every officer is entitled to a fair hearing and that’s what will take place here.”
A month before Weyda was reassigned for his tattoo, he was “counseled” for doing a burnout in his personal vehicle in the district 3 parking lot. Over his 16 year career with the department, he was disciplined for other reasons including absenteeism and using coarse language on calls.
He received commendations in 2012 and in 2013 for investigative skills and apprehending a suspect with a gun.
Weyda’s annual reviews declined in 2018, which is the same year he started receiving “needs improvement” ratings, the second lowest rating on the scale. The low marks continued in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
His most troubling year was 2020 when his attendance was marked “unacceptable” for the year and he received a “needs improvement” rating for community partnerships, complying with policies and procedures, customer service, grooming and dress, teamwork, work product and patrol practices.

Man arrested for stealing car, attempting to sell it back to victim, records show
A man was arrested for stealing a car and then trying to sell it back to the victim.
On May 23, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) got a call that a 2012 Infiniti G-37 was stolen at The Indigo Hotel, which is in the 20 block of North B.B. King Boulevard.
The caller told MPD that they were contacted by the suspect, later identified as Robert Mitchell, and that they could get their vehicle back in exchange for $3,000.
A location was agreed upon, and MPD was at the scene.
Mitchell fled the scene and texted the auto theft victim, “Why you got the police on me?” according to an affidavit.
The vehicle has an estimated value of $20,000, police said.
Mitchell was later arrested and charged with theft of property $10,000 – $60,000 and extortion.
Mitchell has a court date on Jun. 23.

Officials: Two Rescued After Falling into Chocolate Tank at M&M Factory
Two individuals were transported to a local hospital after tumbling into a vat of chocolate inside an M&M factory in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, on Thursday.
Their conditions were unknown, Fox 31 reported, adding emergency dispatch said the rescue operation happened at the M&M Mars facility.
The Elizabethtown Borough Police Department also confirmed to Breitbart News the rescue took place and the employees are expected to be okay.
Multiple emergency crews went to the scene and units reportedly cut a hole in the tank to bring the pair out to safety, according to Lancaster Online.
“Dispatch stated while the two individuals were ‘not floating around’ in a vat of chocolate, officers had trouble getting them out,” the outlet said.
Live video footage showed several emergency vehicles, with lights flashing, at the scene and a few crew members directing traffic near the building:
“Fire crews have eliminated pulling them straight out of a tank,” Brad Wolfe, who works as the communications supervisor for Lancaster County 911 dispatch, explained to CNN earlier in the day. “They have to cut a hole in the side of the tank to get them out.”
He also told the outlet it was not immediately known how the individuals found themselves in the predicament, adding no injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
Video footage posted in January 2013 showed how Mars made M&M’s candies, with an inside look at a factory and large tanks filled with chocolate:
“We combine all our raw ingredients, our milks, our chocolate liqueur, our cocoa butter, and our sugars to make a chocolate paste that we then refine. In refining, we size the chocolate and turn it into a powder,” an employee explained, noting it was then mixed with cocoa butter.
“And we create our finished chocolate that we use to make M&M’s,” he said.

Contractor company hired for tank maintenance.
They sent Dumb & Dumber.
Didn’t say if it was white or dark chocolate, nuts or plain.
There definitely were nuts in there. I bet that Contractor is going to have a whopper of a bill for repairs to that facility!
Since a kid I’ve had a problem with that scene, how did the fluid get cleared ahead of the blockage (h/t to my father for forcing me to ‘assist’ while plumbing). Also, assuming the suction DID clear the chocolate, even a partial vacuum would cause unconsciousness and less air for Augustus’ vocal cords to vibrate.
Alternate theory of that movie: Wonka is looking for a fellow sociopath. When Charlie attempts to use the lollypop, instead of using the stick end effectively he uses the slippery end, so the rest of the movie is Wonka testing Charlie’s depravity.
Is the last seen an integrity check or a loyalty test? I just ruined your childhood, you’re welcome.

While the UN is at it, perhaps they could put the Taliban in Charge of the Council on Women’s Rights?
Just how stoopid can people get? “Hold our beers and watch this!”
Glad I stocked up on candy bars a coupla weeks ago.
