Duckworth To Save the Military

| May 29, 2022

Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill)

Senator Duckworth  sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee; given her background this should make sense. None can dispute her military service and sacrifice. She was a pilot in the Illinois Army National Guard when her Blackhawk was hit by an RPG and she suffered serious injuries.

This makes her addition to the Defense budget that much more puzzling.

Key senator eyes clean energy provisions in defense authorization bill

By Bryant Harris

WASHINGTON — A lead senator on the Armed Services Committee is introducing legislation to strengthen emissions reduction targets at the world’s largest institutional consumer of fossil fuels: the Defense Department.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., introduced the Depend on Domestic (DOD) Clean Energy Act on Thursday to set Pentagon targets for reducing emissions while providing greater funding flexibility to achieve those goals.

Duckworth, who chairs the Senate’s air and land defense panel, has introduced the bill as stand-alone legislation, but she told Defense News she’d like to see it included in the annual defense authorization bill the Armed Services Committee is scheduled to mark up next month.

“The [Defense Department] actually is very progressive on this,” said Duckworth. “Back in the [Barack] Obama administration, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus actually did an entire naval training exercise using all biofuels. Every ship, every aircraft, every vehicle ran on biofuel and demonstrated that it would be possible.”

Defense News

Mabus left a bad taste in his wake for so many reasons, the Green Hornet biofueled jet being one. NAVAIR managed to prove it could trick a jet engine into thinking a bio-JP mix was just JP. At merely $67.50 a gallon. At the time JP was a spendy $2.70-ish per.

Put the good idea fairy away, Tammy.

Oh, great, all our vehicles will be wind or solar powered “green” EVs now.

Wind power should work since we had ships with sails that were powered by the wind. A friend of mine built a wind/sail powered soap box that he used to go around the neighborhood. Would sails be able to move armor on the battlefield??? Don’t think so BUT who knows what are in their heads. Incendently the Song “The Wind” was waxed by the Jesters in 1960 on the Winley label. Original version was waxed by Nolan Strong and the Diablos in 1954 on the Fortune label. I always liked the Jesters version.

Can I reenlist for the future Hang-glider Regiment of the XVIII Airborne Corps? Our sacrifices will be glorious.

“In The Crosshairs’: Department of Navy Releases Climate Change Strategy”

“The Department of the Navy this week released its strategy for how it will deal with climate change and proceed toward the government’s goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.”

“Climate change is one of the most destabilizing forces of our time, exacerbating other national security concerns and posing serious readiness challenges,” Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro said in the introduction to the 32-page report. “Our naval and amphibious forces are in the crosshairs of the climate crisis and this strategy provides the framework to empower us to meaningfully reduce the threat of climate change.”

ninja

Setting the department on a course to combat climate change is a main priority of Del Toro’s tenure. He called the issue “existential” for the Navy and Marine Corps.

“If we do not act, as sea levels rise, bases like Norfolk Naval Base and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island will be severely tested in their ability to support their missions,” he wrote in the report. “If temperatures continue to rise, the oceans will get warmer, creating more destructive storms requiring our Fleets and Marine Corps forces to increase their operational tempo to respond.”

rgr769

Anyone know how much mean sea level has risen in the past 45 years? Inquiring minds would like to know. IIRC. it was only a few centimeters.

AZRobert

Real Climate Science dot com has some info. Climate changes always, Glowbull Warming/Colding is a scam all the way to the bank with other peoples money and has been for years, period.

When I hear climate change from any news/person, a big red flag flashes.

rgr769

My quick research found all sorts of varying numbers, from 1.7 mm per year to a couple of centimeters per year. You can’t trust most of the data because of Prog propaganda.

Socialist tyranny will thwart climate change, all the left/libtards say so. Ask any Democrat.

“INCREASE their operational tempo”? Thought major storms DECREASED it.

I’m worried about being in the crosshairs of the Chicoms or Russkies.

SgtBob

“Funding flexibility” sounds like “throw as much money as needed into the plan until we reach a result I agree to.”

Or we’re selling Am-Way products to buy gas/ammo/MREs…

Meanwhile the Navy and Marine Corps have no budget for spare parts:

Why are spare parts on the unfunded list? Senator asks Navy’s top officer | American Military News

Those comments,” Tester said, indicates to him that the spare parts should not have been placed on the Navy’s unfunded list.

“Sir, it’s a valid point,” CNO Gilday acknowledged.

Gee, ya think, Admiral??? 🙄 🙄 🙄

Well, if we are serious, we could just stop training so much. Let’s save the planet all the way up to the point where we perform like the Russians in our next big fight.

Poor prior planning produces piss poor performance…

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Husband Paul Arrested In California, Charged With DUI”

“Paul Pelosi, House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s husband, has been arrested after allegedly driving under the influence late Saturday night.”

“Paul Pelosi was arrested in Napa County, California at 11:44 p.m. on Saturday night, and was charged with driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 or higher as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.”

“Those records indicate his bail was set at $5,000.”

“The Speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast,” the spokesperson said.”

Wonder if he had a companion in the passenger seat.

rgr769

Maybe he was out getting a little strange. We can hardly blame him.

poetrooper

Counselor, what he gets at home is about as strange as it gets… 😜

poetrooper

Yup… 😜

David

Hell, what he HAS is strange… and disgusting.

A Proud Infidel®™

Tyhe mainstream media will censor that from their coverage while she uses her connections to quash it.

Married to Nancy… who can blame him for drinking. 😷

So just how exactly does this administration plan to recharge electric combat vehicles in a combat zone? Will the United States be erecting power generation stations in potential combat zones?

General: H Hour will commence tomorrow morning at 04:30.

Adjutant: That’s a no-go, sir. It will take at least the 120 hours to charge the vehicles enough to advance 200 miles, and that would be in ideal conditions.

Anonymous

REALLY long extension cords, that’s how. (Good for planes if they’re long enough…)

Hack Stone

Or perhaps the Combat Engineers can erect chicken wire over the battle space, and attach poles on the back of the vehicles. They can be powered just like the amusement park bumper cars.

timactual

It should be interesting to see how they camouflage all those solar panels.

In olden times it would have been possible to fuel a large number of vehicles with biodiesel derived from mess halls and C-rations.

“I love the smell of bacon in the morning. It smells like…Victory.”

KoB

And the destruction of the American Miliotary continues. Almost like it is planned.

Not taking away anything from the sacrifice of her limbs in the service of the Country, but did she suffer that TBI too? Is she brain damaged or just being a mouthpiece for the other domestic enemies of our Republic? This is just about the stoopidist thing we’ve heard yet. The Chinese Communist are spewing way yonder more carbon into the air than anybody and I’ve yet to see how taxing me more is going to clean up the air. Maybe Gorebull Warming would slow down if Kongress Klowne Kritters would quit spewing so much hot air.

Here’s an idea; If there is a concern about Military Bases being flooded, move them to some places where people built mansions, say like, in Martha’s Vineyard? Or maybe the coast of Hawaii? No concerns about sea level change there, is there?

A Proud Infidel®™

Yeah, “biofuel” made by those who have bribed, I mean donated to her and the D-rats.

I respect her Military Service and that’s it.

This is what happens when someone tries to interject into something that are not qualified on. She may have flown a helo, but she didn’t design it. Time for her to roll on out of DC.

Bio JP8, yeah that’ll be good.

Heltau

No matter her service she is still a commie libturd. Amazing she served in the service and turned into a commie libturd after it. Bad news and very bad person.

STSC(SW/SS)

So is John Kerry, who served in Vietnam.

poetrooper

As we well know here at TAH, wartime service, combat action and even grievous war wounding bestow neither wisdom nor sainthood upon any person.

You can be a true hero in combat and still be a flaming asshole who’s totally wrong on everything else.

Ol’ Poe thinks the senator has earned that dubious distinction… 😠

Except for the hero part.

Thank you for your service, Ma’am. Now go take a long walk off a short pier.

Yep.

Seems I read somewhere she also supports government paying off student loans. That will hurt military recruiting. I wonder if she just goes along with every dumb Democrat idea without thinking.

Yes.

Just a crazy idea but maybe we could restore the energy policies of the last administration? I mean it was completely mean and bad but seemed to really be working out.

Glad to be a retired engineer.
I don’t have to learn the “new” physics and math that is being
taught in our schools. I will not have to agree to the global
warming and climate change bullshit just to earn a living.
I’m so old I can remember when one plus one equaled two.
Now it equals whatever the party says it does.

Every time I see this crap about the DoD going “green” I just think about what a B-52 looks like taking off. Eight turbofans belching out black clouds of freedom.

This is just more liberal experimentation with the military as their pawn. Has Congress gone totally green? Has the DNC? If they’d set the example, maybe I’d follow.

26Limabeans

I used to watch the KC-135’s do a MITO at Bangor.
Thick black clouds of smoke for miles.
You could smell the Sulpher as it rained coal dust…..

rgr769

Set the example? I think not, since they ride around in massive Suburbans and leave them idling. Plus, Piglosi loves to fly in massive gov’t jets full of empty seats, back and forth across the country.

Mason

Even the left’s most darling greenie AOC keeps getting caught not just flying everywhere but taking first class.

Ret_25X

Duckworth flying a blackhawk, getting wounded, and healing have absolutely nothing to do with knowing anything worthwhile about soldiering.

She was a pilot, not a soldier.

As for her lunacy, well that predates her ARNG time by quite a bit. In fact, she was a radical all the way back in HS.

Just because someone took money from the military does not make them a soldier. She never supported the military and sees the military as nothing more than a lab for her vile social beliefs.

CDR D

I will be attending the Bay Area Tailhook luncheon aboard the USS Hornet on 8 June. The guest speaker is scheduled to be CAPT Tommy Locke, Jr, COM CARRIER AIR WING 2.

If I get a chance, I’ll try to get his take on the Duckworth scheme.

USAFRetired

Perhaps we start this by making the jet fuel for the 89th Airlift Wing all bio fuel, and the can bill Congress critters quarterly for all Congressional trips made aboard the Wing’s aircraft plus a surcharge to cover all training sorties.

Berliner

She had a checkered history heading the Illinois Dept of Veterans Affairs (2006-2009):
“During a radio appearance Monday, Veterans Affairs whistleblowers Germaine Clarno and Dr. Lisa Nee claimed that Rep. Tammy Duckworth did little to respond to their claims of mistreatment of veterans and corruption within the Hines VA.
According to their allegations, Duckworth was largely unresponsive to evidence related to veteran mistreatment and inadequate investigations conducted by the VA’s inspector general.
“I never felt that [Duckworth] wanted to hear exactly what was going on,” Clarno said. “I really thought going to Tammy Duckworth, that she would be the one who would stand up and say this has got to stop.”
also:
Illinois Veterans Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth violated a law against using state property for political purposes when she used a state-owned van to attend a Democrat campaign event.”

The Army has been working with GM on hydrogen (fuel cell) powered vehicles for a few years now. The idea was to not just have quiet vehicles and generators for bases, but to cut down on all the water they had to bring forward. Since the by-product of Hydrogen fuel cells is water…though it still has to be purified to drink! https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1113209_gms-view-of-hydrogen-fuel-cells-great-for-military-use

Oh course you need water to recharge the fuel cells (and a bunch of energy)…so I guess no one thought all the way through the problem.

Anonymous

True, but it’s still more sensible than “electric vehicle” (golfcart) mania.

P.S. Chicoms have a bigger investment in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles than EVs (and they have rare earths for and make those batteries) so that should tell us something.
