The real danger of Obama

| February 26, 2008

If you’re looking for the “Obama in a turban” photo that’s been floating around the last few days – the one everybody posted as soon as it hit their inboxes – you won’t find it here. Michele Malkin posted a gallery of other politicians “gone native” so the photo doesn’t really prove some “Somalian Candidate” conspiracy. Politicians are good at transforming themselves into whatever their current audiences want.

Of course, later we find out that it was the Clinton campaign that sent it out to try to undermine the Obama campagn because the Clinton crowd thinks we’re all a bunch of ignorant, racist sheep bleeting out our disapproval of all things not nativist. It was a racist and ignorant slap at Americans. And the Washington Times writes that the Clinton campaign says the Obama campaign is making too big a deal out of it;

Clinton campaign officials disavowed the photograph.

They accused Mr. Obama of using the photo flap to “distract and divide” voters from Mrs. Clinton’s attack on his wavering foreign-policy stances and his negative campaign in the blue-collar battleground state of Ohio.

“We’ve seen the tragic result of having a president who had neither the experience nor the wisdom to manage our foreign policy and safeguard our national security,” Mrs. Clinton said in the speech in Washington. “We can’t let that happen again.”

Am I going to defend Obama? Nope – there are a thousand other reasons to oppose an Obama presidency other than his poor choice of clothing. Non-ignorant folks know you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, and Obama’s Table of Contents sucks, too.

The Washington Times, in another article, reports that the Pentagon is a bit worried about the potential Obama administration;

Still, the mostly conservative retired officers, industry executives and current defense officials interviewed by The Washington Times cite Mr. Obama’s lack of experience in national security. They also point to his determination to pull American combat units from Iraq at a time when a troop surge has reduced violence, damaged al Qaeda and allowed the Iraqi government to progress toward Sunni-Shia-Kurd reconciliation.

“We’re very concerned about his apparent lack of understanding on the threat of radical Islam to the United States,” said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, who is pro-Iraq war and a Fox News analyst. “A lot of retired senior officers feel the same way.”
Mr. Obama also has stirred concern in national security circles by pledging to talk to the leaders of rogue nations, such as Iran and North Korea, without preconditions.

His urging of the Bush administration to conduct air strikes against terrorist targets in Pakistan without its approval is privately derided inside the Pentagon as the way to ruin relations with a good ally. Pakistan will not allow U.S. combat troops to operate on its soil.

Well, not to mention that traditionally, Democrats have slashed military spending to create give-away programs for the poor. Bill Clinton’s brag that he’d slashed government to it’s smallest size since Roosevelt translated to the fact that he’d slashed the military manning and spending to pre-World War II levels. All of Clinton’s cruise missile firings had been paid for before he came to office and he never replaced the missiles – depending on follow-on administrations to rebuild our defenses.

We can expect the same from Obama. It’s been said that he’s just another Jimmy Carter and all of us who’d been in Jimmy Carter’s military remember how he’d cut our training money, our pay checks were stagnant, and we lived in shithole barracks.

The Left has refused to address our national security by downplaying it’s importance in this election. Their only solution for the war against terror is “pull the troops out”. Period. No explanation, no discussion, no plan. The war against terror is just a carrot to hold out for the war mongers in the Republican Party. After all, we haven’t been attacked since 2001 – so that, apparently, means that no one will ever attack us again.

So let’s talk about a huge, useless healthcare plan, paying off the mortgages of people who never made their first payment and, oh – look at Obama in a turban.
