New Jersey Gets Tougher on Stolen Valor
Several recent articles say that the state of New Jersey has made a commitment to get tougher on Stolen Valor.
Shore Assemblyman wants tougher penalties on anyone impersonating military personnel
As troubling of a trend as it is from time to time, people impersonating military personnel for personal gain continues to happen.
There are penalties already on the books for those inclined to commit such a heinous crime.
In 2015, then Governor Chris Christie signed a law which sends people to prison and forces them to pay a big fine for anyone who impersonates military personnel to receive the perks that veterans and active members receive, according to a report by NJAdvanceMedia.

(TRENTON) – To deter the illegal act of falsely claiming to be a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, Assembly Democrat Carol Murphy (D-Burlington) sponsors legislation to upgrade the crimes for those who misrepresent themselves as a member or veteran of the United States Armed Forces or organized militia.
The bill (A-1121) would upgrade these crimes to a second degree if the actor obtains money, property, or other tangible benefits of $75,000 or more. A crime of the second degree would be punishable by five to ten years imprisonment, up to a $150,000 fine, or both. If the actor obtains money, property, or other tangible benefits less than $75,000, then the crime would remain as a crime of the third degree, subject to a minimum fine of $1,000.
Upon the Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee approval of the measure, Assemblywoman Murphy issued the following statement:
“Current and former members of our military have protected and served our country to earn their much-deserved benefits. Those who unjustly misrepresent themselves as US veterans, through ‘stolen valor’ to take advantage of our system deserve a harsh penalty. This measure will ensure that those who break the law and impersonate a war hero receive the proper and upgraded punishment.”
The measure heads to the speaker for further consideration.
This will be nice to keep in mind should we identify someone in New Jersey that is running afoul of Stolen Valor.

Wannabes “I coulda joined… ”
I salute the ‘I almost joined’ guy.
Truly the bravest among us… saving those poor Drill Sergeants the humiliation of being punched in the face by a uber boss level G with that unnatural muscle comp.
When Hack Stone was on Recruiting Duty, one kid did say that his Mom promised to buy him a car if he did not enlist. Another kid was on the fast track to be the Assistant Manager of a local fast food joint. That was 30 some years ago. Both are probably still living at home.
Those who commit Stolen Valor where the actor obtains money, property, or other tangible benefits should also be charge as a “felony theft by deception” as anything over $500 is considered a felony.

Stolen Valor punishment should be receiving the Barbed Cock of Satan as their worthless soul (sic) burns in Hell for all Eternity…after a repayment of any/and all purloined funds.

Willy, start spreading the word that he’s a big Trump supporter and contributor…
They can pass all the Laws they want, but will said Laws be enforced?
They seemed to be more honored in the breach. I bet we can’t find more than a dozen cases where stolen valor has been prosecuted.
Now if only they’d get as tough on stolen elections…
