Oklahoma Guard goes rogue, rejects COVID vaccine mandate after sudden change of command
The new commander of the Oklahoma National Guard has declared the organization will not enforce the Defense Department’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate on its troops, according to local media outlets.
Army Brig. Gen. Thomas Mancino was announced as the state’s new adjutant general Wednesday, though he has not yet been confirmed by the state Senate, according to a press release from Gov. Kevin Stitt’s office.
On Nov. 2, Stitt formally requested that DoD not enforce the mandate on the state’s Army and Air National Guard members. In the letter, which his office posted online, he said that 10% of the state’s troops had refused the vaccine and that the mandate was “irresponsible.”

To the uniform question, there is some leeway.
I have seen the NG from various states wearing all types of cords corresponding to their MOS / Branch color.
I informed them that only IN was authorized to wear a cord. They got defensive and stated that their commander (TAG) authorized it.

The ability of big Army/Air Force to control every aspect of a part-time employee’s life had been adjudicated many times over the decades. Almost without exception the final decision is simple: Behavior cannot be controlled for part-timers nearly as much as it can be for full-timers.
This will be very interesting to observe. I seriously doubt that the DoD will win. But, maybe that is just wishful thinking. If they go by precedent of previous decisions, it’s easy. You might also warn your Anteefee pals that most of the active duty combat arms units are based in red states as well, so that could be where actual “defections” will occur on a major scale.
And even in the blue states, ol’ Poe suspects installations like Camp Pendleton, Ft. Lewis, Ft. Carson, Schofield Barracks and Ft. Drum might find a great many of their combat arms troops not politically aligned with their ultralib state governments.
Which could be extremely problematic for those governments as well as the federal governments control of their forces.
