On 06 November 2021, the U.S. Navy christened a John Lewis class replenishment oiler, the future USNS Harvey Milk (T-AO 206), during a ceremony held in San Diego, California.

USNS Harvey Milk will be the second of its class of underway replenishment oilers, and will be operated by the U.S. Military Sealift Command to support ships of the United States Navy.

LT Milk joined the Navy in 1951 during the Korean War, serving four years as an officer and dive instructor.

Thanks for that, Ray.

Navy launches ship named for gay rights leader Harvey Milk

By Associated Press

A Navy ship named for slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk, who served four years in the Navy before being forced out, was christened and launched in San Diego Bay on Saturday.

The replenishment oiler USNS Harvey Milk slid down the shipyard ways after a bottle of champagne was smashed on the bow by former Navy officer Paula M. Neira, clinical program director for the John Hopkins Center for Transgender Health.

Milk’s nephew, Stuart Milk, and Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro watched the traditional ceremony.

“The secretary of the Navy needed to be here today, not just to amend the wrongs of the past, but to give inspiration to all of our LGBTQ community leaders who served in the Navy, in uniform today and in the civilian workforce as well too, and to tell them that we’re committed to them in the future,” Del Toro said.

May God bless her and all who sail in her. Thanks to a couple of the usual suspects for the head’s up.

In other news…. a new game for our resident social justice warrior:

Nice! The Medic is Saint Kyle, aka The Kenosha Kid, Slayer of Pedos, Wife Beaters, and other domestic terrorists. Peace be upon him.

May he be free to patrol again.

You done messed up!

One should not stand upon a house of cards when the other side has a flame thrower. Why the hell this thing got to trial is beyond me. The defense is eating the prosecutions lunch, supper and the next days breakfast.

I have to admit it is kind of nice to see.

Haha! 🙂

They should offer one with extra Medic pieces.

Everything the new Kremlin’s supreme ruler joe Crow biden brings up is about gender and race and now joyned by the military.

How many MOH recipients still have nothing named for them while we go naming ships after gay pedophiles.

Precisely. I swear, this used to be a great country.

Dat’s so racisss!

I agree Deckie, we’re missing quite a few CMH Awardees being honored via a named warship. In the past decade or so you can note the ‘traditional’ naming convention of the USN has changed – and NOT for the better.
Previously, WARRIORS names were given to Destroyers (DDGs) while past presidents and SECNAVs were put to Aircraft Carriers (CVNs). While this wasn’t an absolute rule, it was essentially how it went. Other classes had ‘standards’ with the occasional ‘continuous’ names, e.g. ENTERPRISE, AMERICA, etc.
Where I feel things went awry was the GABRIELLE GIFFORDS or even the next-up CVN being named for Doris (Dorie) Miller. Giffords (the representative) was injured by a would-be assassin – does that justify a warship being named for her? No. Dorie was the FIRST black Sailor to earn the Navy Cross – he’s a goddamn warrior and they want to give his name to a big deck? Ludicrous! [NOTE: He previously had a Knox-Class Frigate (FF) named for him.]
With the MILK, I find few issues. It’s a USNS and at least he WAS a former Sailor. He did a lot for a community in need and had his life unnecessarily cut short. Did he do bad things? Undoubtedly, but I wasn’t there so I don’t know.
There are more but these are the couple popping to the forefront of my mind.
Bottom line on the Navy’s current naming conventions: Stop kowtowing to the meta or the rabble and get back to the business of honoring the RIGHT people with the RIGHT Class of ship!

Double-checked – looks like he did bang a 16 year old… I’ll reserve my comments and add that to the ‘issues’ I have with the MILK naming. Other than that…

First person who comes to mind is Audie Murphy… I don’t think he ever had anything named for him. I’d be proud to see his name on a gray hull — USNS or USS… either/or.

So, do other ships suck out the viscous liquid, or is it inserted?

Asking for an Army friend…

Was imagining just what a “replenishment oiler” might be and how ironic the name actually is.

After they’re done do they pull apart leaving both their crews a hot, sweaty, spent mess? 🥵.
Seems reasonable to believe.
I guess everyone gets to sleep in the wet spot afterwards.
Is it still gay if underway and still queer at the pier? Assume? Ass u(p)me(n)?
New meanings indeed. 😳🤷😲👌

I understand it takes the refueling hose in the stern…

I don’t even understand how or why someone’s deviations make them worthy of this honor. Anyone wanna fill me in? On second thought, some things are better left unread.

Lincoln was a log cabin fan and you don’t see me running out to support naming ships after ‘im. And that broom closet swashbuckler actually accomplished… things?

So it carry fuel, eh? It’d be a dang shame if something were to happen to her. jussayin

I wonder how many straight men and women will be requesting transfers to another ship. And visa versa, how many confused, light in the loafers semen will want to be assigned to this boat.

I’m sure there are nicknames already being floated about concerning this ship. Can’t wait to hear them.

“Splooge Barge”

Great. Now I’m on another fking watchlist.

The Money Shot?

This guy didn’t do anything worth naming a ship after him. If San Francisco wants to name something after him I understand, but he’s not a military hero or major political figure. This woke shit has got to stop, why would anyone want to join this new military? I can’t imagine having to put up with this political and social indoctrination for 4 years.

I’m afraid I’d burn that plank.

Does kinda give that term “plank” holder a bit different context doesn’t it? 😜 “In the Navy”

With the luxury of time and experience, The Village People weren’t *that* gay… at least not obnoxiously so.

Too bad there isn’t a USS McKinley currently serving the Navy. I can just picture the Harvey Milk inserting a hose into the McKinley. Much like Harvey did with his 16 year old boy toy, back in the day.

Boo, YouTube sucks!

The John Lewis class- did Lewis serve in the military? I can’t find any record. Guess the navy is more interested in woke than the other services.

Nope, he didn’t. Just a career black Democrat politician for the “woke” points– if he’d been female, lesbian and disabled too then the score would’ve really added-up!

Will there be special classes on how to dive? Or how to take a torpedo? In honor of Harvey, will each crewperson be issued a cabin boy?
