Oregon students will not need to prove the ability to write or do math in the near future

When fact, reason, and logic are attacked as “oppressive concepts”. (r/The_Donald/)

Oregon’s governor signed a bill into law that removes the need for students to prove the writing or math ability normally expected of high school graduates. This does not immediately take effect. Education personnel responsible for enforcing this law indicated that this would not be implemented on students who have already begun high school. However, students who start high school after this bill’s passing will be affected.

From the Bulletin:

The requirement that students demonstrate freshman- to sophomore-level skills in reading, writing and, particularly, math led many high schools to create workshop-style courses to help students strengthen their skills and create evidence of mastery. Most of those courses have been discontinued since the skills requirement was paused during the pandemic before lawmakers killed it entirely.

Democrats in the legislature overwhelmingly supported ending the longtime proficiency requirement, while Republicans criticized it as a lowering of academic standards. A couple lawmakers crossed party lines on the votes.

Proponents said the state needed to pause Oregon’s high school graduation requirements, in place since 2009 but already suspended during the pandemic, until at least the class of 2024 graduates in order for leaders to reexamine its graduation requirements. Recommendations for new standards are due to the Legislature and Oregon Board of Education by September 2022.

However, since Oregon education officials have long insisted they would not impose new graduation requirements on students who have already begun high school, new requirements would not take effect until the class of 2027 at the very earliest. That means at least five more classes could be expected to graduate without needing to demonstrate proficiency in math and writing.

State Democrats were in favor of this bill; however, the Republicans were against it. The Bulletin has the rest of the article here.

Great, and when the students who graduate undergrad new “non-standards” are unable to find employment that pays a living wage, it will be blamed on the inherent systemic racism. It’s been said many times, but is well worth repeating that the film Idiocracy started out as a comedy and became a documentary.

It and “1984” are becoming more predictive of our immediate future than anything Nostradamus dreamed up.

The movie “Idiocracy” comes one step closer to becoming a prophecy.

Universal Basic Income (UBI) that Democrats like so much:

This is a feature, not a bug.. stupid, illiterate peasants are much easier to rule than intelligent, educated citizens.

In 1979, when I graduated from high school in Florida, every high school junior took what was then called the Functional Literacy Test. If you did not pass it, you did not graduate. You had your senior year(s) to get remedial training and to retest.
How have we fallen so far in our expectations?

The country needs ditch-diggers, too. And Oregon is doing its best to fill the need.

Welfare is a career choice now.

What Moral relativism and not being “judgmental” have wrought.

It’s all about race and all liberal teachers and politicians should have the part of the brain that uses math be removed.

If Hack din’t know better, he would be thinking that the people putting these policies into effect want the masses to remain ignorant, unable to comprehend anything beyond what their overlords tell them is to their benefit. The radio hosts on WMAL call this the “soft bigotry of low expectations”.Being able to meet or exceed the minimal standards expected of a functioning adult is now considered racist.

The “soft bigotry of low expectations”.
I first heard that from ElRushbo. Don’t know if he coined it, or if he stole it from someone else. Either way, it’s a perfect description of Libtard DildoCrat behavior towards minorities……….errrrr……”protected classes”.

I hope none of these folks wind up on a mortar team if they enlist.

Just saying.

Only if the federal government follows their lead and lowers the minimum ASVAB score for enlisting.

And they will be scratching their heads wondering why some demographics are underrepresented in the senior Officer ranks.

This must be how they got the Storm Troopers in Star Wars! “We can’t require them to be able to hit something with their rifle, then they would be distinguishable…” Now they just mass fires and someone can walk across the corridor without getting hit!!

My, My, My

Well, (IMHO) I guess that saves me time in reviewing resumes if/when I am looking to hire. Can’t trust the education system there, or their constituents ability to speak, write, and rationally solve complex problems. Awesome, thanks for that.

I see where this is going. If students won’t need to prove ability to write or do math then they don’t need to prove their gender, however flexible it may be.

Say some soy boy doesn’t want to do something in physical education classes he can just say he’s on his period and sit it out until later declaring his gender reverted back to male… again.

Is this going to run afoul the
feds? When Common Core came about there were some testing requirement levied on States in order to obtain federal funding. One of the requirement was you had to pass the test.

Great!!! Let’s raise a bunch of generations of people who are not just subliterate but actually illiterate.

Isn’t it wonderful that Grammarly software is available for people who can’t read or write intelligible sentences?

And to think, all that time my grade school teachers spent teaching us little nimrods meant that we learned to read and write and do arithmetic in our heads, while these generations to come won’t even be able to read the directions on a bottle of aspirin, never mind sign their own names to anything.

Was in a shop moving my mobile phone service to someone besides AT&T
Conversation between two college-age employees involved math to determine the difference between a and b.
The male proclaimed he didn’t know how to do math.
The female (?)(She was pierced, tattooed, pink/mauve hair gelled in a ridge on her head, and weighed much more than I ever have) regardless…
The female gave him an answer. It was wrong. I corrected them. The young lady helping me kinda smirked. I liked her.

Sadly, these seem to be standard level college students for our little college town.

We’re screwed.

Tallywhagger

Well good, that puts the students and their teachers on equal standing.
