Increase in Home Defense Shootings Affirms Self-Defense Right
By Dave Workman
Recent days have seen an uptick in self-defense shootings involving burglaries or home invasions, leading to the inescapable conclusion that gun-buying over the past 15 months is not working out so well for people who break into other peoples’ homes.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man who previously said he shot and killed a protester out of self defense in downtown Austin in July 2020 has been indicted on felony charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of deadly conduct, according to a statement from his lawyer. The lawyer says Daniel Perry posted a $300,000 bond and has been released from custody.
Perry “will vigorously fight all of these charges,” the lawyer says. Police identified the man killed in the July 25, 2020 shooting as Garrett Foster.
Foster’s fiancé, Whitney Mitchell, sent KXAN a statement through her attorney.
“We are grateful for the hard work of the District Attorney’s Office in prosecuting the senseless killing of Garrett, who was a loving, supportive partner to Whitney. This is the first step in a long process that we hope and trust will yield a just result.”
According to APD’s description of the incident, a car turned on Congress Avenue near 4th Street at 9:51 p.m. into where a group of protesters was marching against police violence. Protesters surrounded the car. Foster was armed with an assault-style weapon and was one of the protesters who surrounded the car.

Austin is the Portland of Texas. A weapons-grade Woketard shithole.
Gotta love a 1911…..unless you’re a home invader/intruder.
“Gotta love a 1911…”
I sleep with one next to the CPAP machine. Doc says I’m doing real good
with it and the interuptions/hr are down to 3.2 on a good night.
The machine is working good also…..
I was in Austin back in 2010 attending the National Hurricane Conference and all I saw were the college kids and I didn’t see one person with a cowboy hat and boots. The BBQ Brisket and toast were great though.
With the invasion of Austin from Silicon Valley, Austin’s quaint side has become the dominant side.
I recall all the marches and protests that occurred at the University whenever a young fraternity member was accused of doing anything, or heaven forbid someone got hurt doing something stupid (forced or otherwise). While they were often righteously focused on the culture that is present in fraternities and how it may breed bad ideas and practices, it often failed to think of identifying a solution to the problem…only more squawking!
If I remember my quotes from Winston Churchill or Teddy Roosevelt one of them said something about “Complaining about a problem, without proposing a solution is just whining!”
Austin always had a lot of activists, but they were not the majority until about 15 years ago. I can’t believe the students at the University stopped wearing their pressed button down shirts and Roper boots!!! Next thing you are going to tell me is Topsiders with pegged jeans and Polo shirts with the collar up are no longer in fashion!!!
I was a big fan of PBS’s “Austin City Limits” even though the woke
culture “left” a bad taste on my plate. Been a few years.
